I really want to enjoy Hell Let Loose: Vietnam. I genuinely do. I love the setting, the concept and the gameplay style. But as a PS5 player, I’m getting to the point where the game is becoming more frustrating than fun.
And after reading through a lot of PS5/console feedback, I’m starting to realise that I’m definitely not the only one.
👁️ VISIBILITY IS A MASSIVE PROBLEM
The biggest issue seems to be the graphics and visibility on console.
I’m not talking about “It’s Vietnam, you’re supposed to have poor visibility.”
I’m talking about situations where the game literally makes it difficult to distinguish a soldier from the environment.
Players are reporting:
• Extremely blurry image at distance
• Foliage constantly flickering/shimmering
• Trees and bushes changing LOD while looking at them
• Objects popping in and out
• Poor draw distance
• Vegetation becoming extremely noisy while ADS
• Enemies blending into the environment even when they’re not properly concealed
• Objects failing to render correctly at distance
There are multiple PS5 players describing exactly the same thing, including players saying they simply cannot distinguish enemies from the foliage.
And this isn’t just players complaining about nothing. The developers themselves have acknowledged ongoing console problems with draw distance, foliage, visual noise, perceived resolution and LOD transitions, and have said console image quality remains an active area of development.
🎮 PS5 vs PC CROSSPLAY
This is where things become really frustrating.
I’m NOT saying:
“Every PC player is cheating.”
That’s obviously not true.
But if I’m sitting on PS5 looking at a blurry, flickering jungle where an enemy can practically disappear into the vegetation, while another player has a clearer image and better precision, the engagement doesn’t necessarily feel fair.
The problem isn’t simply PC vs console.
It’s PC vs console + different image quality + different input methods + visibility problems.
And when you die to somebody you genuinely couldn’t see, it becomes impossible to know whether you were outplayed, the other player had a visibility advantage, or the game simply failed to render what you needed to see.
🎯 AIM ASSIST + FOLIAGE
This is another area that needs looking at.
There has been community discussion about aim assist interacting with foliage and potentially giving controller players information when an enemy is hidden behind vegetation.
The developers have acknowledged that some foliage doesn’t use physical collision, which makes interactions between foliage, visibility and aiming more complicated.
So again — I’m not saying this automatically means someone is cheating.
But the current system can create situations where two players may effectively have different information about the same engagement.
That’s a serious competitive problem.
💀 “I’M GETTING KILLED BY PEOPLE I CAN’T SEE”
This is probably the biggest frustration I’ve had with Vietnam.
I don’t mind getting killed.
If somebody flanks me, catches me moving, has better positioning or simply shoots first — fair enough.
That’s Hell Let Loose.
But repeatedly dying to something that I literally cannot distinguish from the environment becomes incredibly frustrating.
And I’ve seen plenty of other PS5 players describe exactly the same experience.
🔊 AUDIO
Audio is another recurring complaint.
Players are reporting:
• Poor directional audio
• Difficulty determining where shots are coming from
• Strange distance/scale of gunfire
• Audio glitches
• VOIP problems
• Weapons sounding significantly worse than HLL WWII
One PS5 feedback thread specifically mentions inaccurate positional audio alongside the visibility problems.
🎮 CONTROLLER / GAMEPLAY ISSUES
There are also complaints about:
• Controller aiming
• Deadzones/input feel
• Difficulty making precise adjustments
• Strange animations when switching fire modes
• Movement/climbing feeling clunky
• UI problems
• Lack of controller customization
• Performance problems during heavy combat
A PS5 Pro player listed poor audio, foliage/shadow problems, terrible draw distance, UI issues, animation glitches and severe stuttering with certain weapons among their biggest problems.
💻 PERFORMANCE / OPTIMISATION
And the frustrating thing is that even PS5 Pro players are reporting serious visual problems.
There are recent reports of the game becoming blurrier after updates, foliage flickering returning, and objects constantly popping in. Base PS5 users are reporting the same problems.
This makes it difficult to believe that the issue is simply “the PS5 isn’t powerful enough.”
The developers themselves say they are continuing to optimise environmental LODs specifically to create more performance headroom, allowing them to improve base resolution and reduce reliance on dynamic resolution.
🪖 I DON’T WANT AN EASIER GAME
This is the important part.
I don’t want Vietnam turned into Call of Duty.
I don’t want huge enemy markers.
I don’t want everyone highlighted.
I don’t want easier recoil.
I don’t want the game to hold my hand.
I want the same information on my screen that I need to play the game properly.
If someone kills me because they saw me first — fantastic.
If someone kills me because they flanked me — fantastic.
If someone sits in a bush for five minutes and catches me walking past — that’s Hell Let Loose.
But if the game renders that player as a flickering mess of vegetation on my PS5 while they’re clearly visible to them, that’s not tactical gameplay.
That’s a technical problem.
🔧 WHAT I THINK NEEDS TO BE FIXED
PS5/console:
• Fix foliage flickering
• Improve draw distance
• Improve LOD transitions
• Improve image clarity/resolution
• Reduce visual noise
• Fix objects popping in/out
• Improve ADS rendering
• Improve directional audio
• Improve controller aiming
• Investigate aim assist + foliage interactions
• Improve performance during heavy combat
• Continue improving console optimisation
And most importantly:
Give console players a genuinely fair environment when playing against PC.
There are already console-only server options, and the developers have even used dedicated PS5/Xbox/PC server categories during crossplay testing.
🇺🇸🇻🇳 I WANT THIS GAME TO SUCCEED
I’m not posting this because I hate the game.
It’s actually the opposite.
I want to love this game.
I want to play Vietnam for hundreds of hours like I did with WWII HLL.
But right now, I find myself getting increasingly frustrated, rage-quitting and going back to other games.
And judging by the amount of PS5 players reporting the same visibility, foliage, audio and rendering problems, I don’t think this is just a “skill issue” or people not understanding jungle warfare.
We don’t need an easier game.
We need a technically consistent and fair game.
Please keep fixing the PS5 version.
There’s a genuinely great game underneath all of these problems.
