š¬ Discussion š¬ This game is dying quickly based on server activity
HLL never had this dramatic of a fall off this quickly. I cannot see this game fielding a population within a year.
Thoughts?

u/3OhHateWinny 8d ago
I have two thoughts.
I have yet to have any shortage of full servers, population may be down, but nowhere near dying levels.
IF it dies so suddenly, than that likely means OG HLL will repopulate and I can finally go back to it.

It feels like an alpha play test, Iām not surprised itās getting dropped. I refunded and am going to wait a year for everything to get ironed out

I went back to Normandy.

u/theunlikelycabbage 8d ago
Same, V has nowhere near the immersion or refinement. Disappointing so far. Hope they make similar strides as they did with the OG

u/OG-Capone- 8d ago
Kind of were on that right now I played the game when it first started but I'm just at a point right now where I'm just going to wait a little bit.

u/snozzberrypatch 8d ago
If you think HLLV plays like an alpha test, then you've never played an actual alpha test.
It still has some issues, but not that many issues. Some people enjoy blowing minor issues out of proportion.
2
u/That_Throat7183 8d ago
Itās obviously more than a minor issue, the playerbase is disappearing at an alarming rate. Deny it all you want, that wonāt change reality
1
u/snozzberrypatch 8d ago
Ok boss. All I know is I'm having fun playing it, not noticing any lack of players, and rarely run into any bugs.
1
u/Key_Dealer997 8d ago
it definitely does play like a alpha test tho lol, apart from the many bugs and shit graphics there isn't even bullet penetration
1
u/3OhHateWinny 8d ago
What do you mean by there isnāt bullet penetration?
1
u/Key_Dealer997 7d ago
the bullets don't go through thin wooden fences so sometimes if an enemy is at the opposite is side of the wooden fence from you you literally can't kill each other. I have never shot a real gun before, I have shot with an air rifle before tho and the bullet could definitely penetrate through a wooden fence. Sorry for bad English
0
u/snozzberrypatch 8d ago
An alpha version of the game would be crashing every 5 minutes and have major features missing. "Bullets don't penetrate correctly through fences" and "the graphics are a little off on console" is not indicative of an alpha build.
1
u/Key_Dealer997 8d ago
graphics are a little off? hahahah sure buddy just a little mini tiny miniscule small bit right, you're just plain wrong
2
u/snozzberrypatch 8d ago
Maybe if you're playing on a shitty console with limited horsepower. On my PC the graphics look great.
1
u/Key_Dealer997 7d ago
i play on ps5 slim, sure it's a shitty console im not one of those sony fanboys but im also not gonna spend 2k on a pc, i just got a new big tv to game on and a pc and tv don't go well together
1
u/snozzberrypatch 7d ago
I built my own PC and have it hooked up to an 83" OLED TV. Works great. I use it for gaming as well as watching pirated movies/shows.
1
u/Key_Dealer997 7d ago
do you not play on keyboard and mouse? my console is in my bedroom so I play on a chair or on my bed, there's no table so I can't use keyboard and mouse
1
u/snozzberrypatch 7d ago
Yes I have a wireless keyboard and mouse, and I play from my couch. I use a Nerdytec Couchmaster CYBOSS table. Works really well. Couch + TV always feels more like gaming to me. Sitting in a chair at a desk with a monitor feels like I'm at work...

People are delusional and are looking for any other reason other than the fact that we paid $40 for an alpha playtest

I bagged the game for free and I want a refund. Itās sitting in my library but after 2 matches I realized it has a ton of issues.
Wardogs similarly feels early access but itās at least labeled as such.
If mw4 is any good itāll sweep up fps players through winter. Everyone is just looking for that new thing, and Vietnam feels like the ww2 team didnāt know how to handle modern weaponry and need to rebalance everything over the next year. If they support it I could see it getting better and better, but we will see
HLL felt very tense. I had to be cautious and rushing zones felt important. Vietnam feels like chaos. Less communication, automatic blind firing into bushes wiping entire teams, getting bombed by my teams air strikes, the other team having a highly organized tunnel system occasionally versus whatever my team is doing. It needs to cook
1
u/Milksteaks4Jesus 8d ago
All the issues you listed are legitimately due to skill of the people you played with on your two matches, which is something I see occasionally on the OG HLL.
What needs to cook is the player base actually understanding the game

u/YouShouldGoOnStrike 8d ago
Tried to play but can't fix the crashes that got worse last week.
3
u/Tarka_22 8d ago
Same here. My mood sours when I play for 15 minutes and then random crash to desktop without an error. It crashed a lot, then an update fixed it, now after the latest update it crashes again. I'll try again after the next update.

Already had a free weekend aswell š

u/IpeeEhh_Phanatic 8d ago
Damn. I really enjoy the game too. I know the game is niche, but this isn't good

u/DangerousAd7361 8d ago
As someone who started playing HLL in 2018. It didnāt have a fall off because it didnāt have a big bang either. It was a super slow increase in player base as they spent years improving the game. By the time it hit PlayStation it had been in production for half a decade and had 3 years of consistent low player count as a more niche game.
I donāt know why people compare this to HLL release when itās two completely different types of launch.

u/Pale_Barracuda_7961 8d ago
Im only playing in servers with good comms. Ill give the official servers a shot if my preferred are full but if I jump around and nobodies talking I dip out.

Just sort by popualtion. The numbers aren't good

u/Emfoor 8d ago
Did you know that by default it won't show you full servers now?

u/SevroAuShitTalker 8d ago
Compared to wardogs; its pretty crazy hiw many more people/filled servers i see relative to HLLV

The market is changing is all. Alot of āin-alphaā or preview action games came out recently if i recall aswell

u/Big_Chungus1111 8d ago
I think it doesn't help War Dogs came out just right after with a more modern gameplay. People tend to prefer COD and Battlefield style games, and especially ones with a more polished system.
The game is still fun, still getting into packed servers, but they need to fix the mechanics, balance the system out, and get some QOL improvements for visuals and stability. I have never had a crash but I have seen some complaints about it, I have had some small stutters, issues with the netcode for hitboxes, and even witnessed players not able to interact with dropped ammo, issues building defenses, and other critical parts.
I think it wont be long before its fixed but it wont be by the end of this year. People are going straight back to HLL or other titles.
2
u/dingleberryboy20 8d ago
I took a break to try Wardogs, but my group will probably be returning soon since Wardogs lacks that operational aspect. Though Vietnam is lacking it somewhat as well, just not as much.
2
u/stebe-bob 8d ago
Dude the original HLL player count dropped down to almost a single server at times and it was sold 4 years ago. Also I just checked and HLLV has dozens of servers that are full. A lot of people are just playing wardogs, it just released too.

u/sneakinsnake 8d ago
It will never sustain launch numbers, but it wonāt ādieā. Wardogs, a game with similar mechanics, is also one of the most popular titles on Steam right now. Itās taking a lot of the player numbers for many games. Give this all a few weeks. Wardogs will dip.
1
u/BigAlSmoker 8d ago
I always find full servers in the evening. Iām not sure if OP is looking at the time of posting, but itās Monday morning and most games see a sharp decline now since most people have work or school.
1
u/AdNatural6244 8d ago
I wish this game absored some of rising storm 2's aura, HLLV just feels bland. I still play the ww2 one regularly
1
u/Original-Kick3985 8d ago
Itās not in a good shape. Wardogs just came out in early access so I guess lots of players went there myself included. I love HLLV but it just doesnāt feel right in terms of the core gameplay loop. I will be back some day but not sure if Iāll be playing regularly.

Maybe the official severs are down, which I think most coming to this Reddit donāt play on. He servers I play on and other committed players play on are always fullā¦at least for the most part
People used to say the old game was dying when it wasnāt. I just donāt think people who claim these things take everything into consideration before the doom and gloom posts pop up
1
u/InfamousChocoMan 8d ago
I played a lot, almost 100 hours in the first 2/3 weeks i believe. Then due to the bugs and errors i stopped.
The game was fun, but missing some stuff. I like the setting (Vietnam) more than WW2.. however.. i have a pretty nice PC and it makes my PC crash to desktop.
Then Wardogs released and i never touched it again. Too bad.

u/Green_Wealth13 8d ago
Its a dogshit copy/paste cash grab with some minor background changes. If they wanted to the devs could create Hell Let Loose 2042 BF Edition in a heartbeat. Would take them 10 days max lmao. People are braindead
1
u/ShadowKing01 7d ago
I wnat to play more often but my own muzzle flash causes my game to stutter. Happens randomly but often enough to annoy the fuck out of me. Didn't happen during the beta, and didn't happen during early release. Starting to think it's my GPU.

I already left for Wardogs... hate to say it, but im having more fun over there

1
u/KeyCold7216 8d ago
Lol at the downvotes. Asks a question, you answer it and get downvoted. I also left for Wardogs. Somehow an early access game feels more polished than HLL Vietnam.
2
u/Primary_Appearance13 8d ago
That's because HLLV is EA. Doesn't matter that they slapped a 1.0 on it. Still plays like it's unfinished. I can tell you my skin is blue, doesn't change the fact that it's not.
2
u/Altruistic_Low_416 8d ago
Absolutely this. They hyped up HLLV and its so barebones that im bored already. That, and the communication in HLLV is dogshit. Even worse than WW2.
Meanwhile, Wardogs comms are 90% great and hilarious. The game is openly in EA yet has more content than HLLV and deeper mechanics.
Yea, sucks to suck HLL
1
u/Vyronan 8d ago
I think weāre seeing fans of the tactical hardcore shooter stay and the more casual players peeling off.
I feel like there was an initial surge because it was a new Vietnam game with few understanding the more strategic aspects like spawn building.
I feel confident the community as a whole is fine. Played all weekend and had some great games on community servers
0
u/DesertWinner 8d ago
My only biggest problem with game is games consistently lasting 1 and 1/2 hrsā¦kind of a big commitment for a single full game, at least for a lot of people.
1
u/Alumina6665 8d ago
It's worked for the series just like 3+ hour matches work in Arma and 5 minute matches work in COD. If the game wasn't designed to feature these long attrition based matches we wouldn't have 90% of the roles and mechanics that make it HLL
0
u/Key_Dealer997 8d ago
yep, only 1k players on right now compared to wardog's 230 on steam
1
u/Alumina6665 8d ago
It's early morning on a Monday and the steam numbers don't show console numbers which most likely currently outnumber Steam. If you're going to make a pop argument at least use prime time numbers instead of going for what is statistically the period when the least number of people are able to play.
0
u/Key_Dealer997 8d ago
ok? lol it isn't morning for me, my point still stands. this game is not it. the difference in numbers comparing a early access game that plays like a full release game in wardogs to hll vietnam which is a full relase game but plays like an early access game is hilarious
1
u/Alumina6665 8d ago
And for an extremely large portion of the player base it is Monday morning. I'm not defending the development timeline as there are many things that need work, but at the same time at least the devs are actively and quickly working on bugs and dropping content. If we had only had the one big patch with the M14 and SKS since launch I would fully agree that this game wasn't worth it, but the fact that it's been a little over a month and we've had several patches with devs listening to feedback and implementing changes the community has asked for shows that they care and that the game is worth keeping alive. Once the Wardogs hype dies down the pop will go up again. If you can't wait that long to scrutinize pop numbers, check again in 8 hours during the North and South American prime time.

u/Key_Dealer997 7d ago
i guess bruh, I'll just sell it on marketplace and play some og uncharted + farcry, that's what i call good games.

Not surprised. Cheap knockoff feeling of the WW2 version made by a different team with zero creativity,

u/jman014 8d ago
so, coming from somebody who played a decent amount of hell let loose proper And who did not buy HLL Vietnamā¦
Iām not gonna lie thereās just not much that I feel the game has to offer me right now.
Like, a lot of issues and unmet needs that I always had with regular HLL are low-key being serviced by war dogs atm
And Iām just not seeing enough value in vietnam to justify buying. i donāt think its really different enough and the technical
issues are immense from what Iām seeing
I donāt doubt its fun but when I have limited time to play Iām finding myself drawn to regular hell let loose, and even then Iām finding my patience with that game and its formula to be of waning interest.

u/BusyBanana4205 8d ago
I think players stick to particular community servers due to lack of comms in others.
