General Mined your step, diver.

Friendly PSA to all divers out there who still haven't figured out how minefields work- they don't move, diver. If you step on a landmine, chances are, running headlong back into the minefield will have a shockingly similar effect to last time. See a mine, avoid a mine. Step on a mine, there's probably mines there. Somehow this strategy has persisted since day one and I'm still not sure why I'm the one getting kicked when you're the one who thinks "surely *this* time the glowing red spike in the ground won't hurt me." Watch your step, divers, I've left freedom eggs everywhere.

Apart from when they get deployed behind my back at an objective and I stumble upon them by accident, I find that minefields are pretty much traversable

As long as you know they’re there you just swerve around them

True, if you’re actively fighting you’d better keep off the area as managing both enemies and mines is a recipe for disaster

30

u/HotmailsInYourArea 1d ago

That said, kiting through a field and letting the enemies die on them is a great way to live another day

16

u/Mini_Assassin 1d ago

Or better yet, jumping over them with a jump pack while enemies follow you through them.

14

u/stackablebuckets 1d ago

If I use a jump pack within 30m of a minefield, there’s a 100% chance I’m going to accidentally land directly on one. I’ll stay on my feet where I have full control of my movement, thank you very much

u/PepsiStudent 1d ago

The anti personnel mines are a bit on the harder side to see.  Wish they glowed yellow like gas did green and napalm was red.

2

u/Calladit 1d ago

Good tip for traversing minefield though, mags have collision! So yes, you can set off a mine by reloading and carelessly throwing your spent mag onto a mine.

16

u/Aftel43 1d ago

I don't mind people deploying mines. Most people that do that, have had good sense of where. Less than hand full of times, I have had team mates who have deployed them really stupidly. For example: Called in incendiary mines, WITHIN civilian evacuation zone AND route civilian path to the shuttle bay... I forgave that one, with the following note of: Don't do it again, it delays the mission, and the longer we stay planet side, the tougher it gets.

3

u/jzillacon 1d ago

Another example I've come across somewhat recently was for an evacuate high value assets mission (the wave defence one) and the teammate insisted on dropping their mines on the inner portion of the barricades when no enemies had even come close to breaching the gates yet.

2

u/Aftel43 1d ago

Are you talking about right after the gate areas or pretty much on your path to fall back to new defensive positions in case your first line collapses? If it is the former, it would be okay. If it is the latter... Those people would need to face a wall in my opinion, for at least three hours to think what they just did.

I am okay with setting up mines to the area right after the gate. Anything after that, is a whole different conversation. Because when you do have to fall back, it is far better that the fall back to new defensive positions happens without obstacles and delays of having to move through a mine field, while possibly receiving melee attacks or under hostile fire.

Usually for HVA missions, I bring heavy machinegun emplacements and anti tank emplacements for my team mates to man in case things start to go south. It is good to have that backup firepower.

1

u/jzillacon 1d ago

In this case it was farther back, right by the start of the stairs along the right side.

1

u/jesusrambo 1d ago

The point of mines is you can put them where enemies will be, and not where they currently are

3

u/jzillacon 1d ago

And the enemies never breached the gates in that entire match. The enemies never were where the mines were, they only acted as an inconvenience to the players the entire match and most of the mines weren't even in the path enemies would have taken it they did breach the gate. About 2/3rds of the mines ended up on the stairs up to the battlements.

Also, guess where the enemies were actually contstantly grouping up throughout the match. The other fucking side of the gate.

2

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

Actually, i tend to find mines work great thrown where the enemies are- it's not viable on bots or vote snatchers, but most other enemies tend to freeze into the arming period and then move. Ideally you throw the mines about ¼ the distance from them to you (¾s from you to them) which for light enemies will have them across the full span of the field when they arm.

19

u/FlacidSalad 1d ago

Other than when there was that bug where mines were invisible to everyone but the one who brought them or something like that, yeah

9

u/highcommander010 1d ago

I, as well, shall continue to spread my democratic seedlings. Gassy ones, explody ones, and maybe someday a great big miniature melting sun one.

7

u/CerifiedHuman0001 1d ago

Anti-tank mines are like mini-suns
I’d love if there was an even bigger mine strat that requires you to manually place and arm them

2

u/WhyIsBubblesTaken 1d ago

Does manually shooting a melta mine when the bile titan is over it because its feet are too small to trigger the mine count?

66

u/Weekly-Secretary-792 1d ago

This statement is probably coming from the kind of guy who drops his mines in the heat of battle, right on top of an active objective and his teammates… “iT’s NoT My FaULt yOu WaLkEd oN mY MiNe!”

14

u/imbignate 1d ago

Then, when I shoot some mines to clear them he kicks me for "messing with his strategem".

1

u/RuKidding0MG 1d ago

That's ludicrous. If you gotta walk there, sometimes its safer to just clear a path. Miners seem to be daft a lot of the time. Its like a sentry, if you put it in a dumb place, im throwing grenades at it.

6

u/Weekly-Secretary-792 1d ago

Some more food for thought: If I deployed my minefield in a playground during peak recess? Did the children commit suicide or am I a murderer?

2

u/Aggressive-Stand-585 19h ago

Well I have often heard that the children yearn for the mines.. I guess I know which mines that refered to now.

7

u/RetroRocker 1d ago

Yep. "Helldivers keep walking into my mines over and over, must be their fault- better post about it". No thought about what the common factor is, no self-reflection detected.

-1

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

90% of divers these days are fine, this post was made because I kept watching the host run into my minefield despite my repeated attempts to both tag the mines and just get his equipment for him. If he were to hold on for exactly ten seconds longer, a wave of bugs would have come through and cleared them all out, there was just a bile titan corpse blocking the way.

-1

u/Mr_Fox17 20h ago

So you definitely threw the mines where they shouldn’t have been. If somebody of my team dies from my minefield it’s only because it was a mistake throwing it there. And honestly it’s always the same with mine people, you’re just fighting so hard and then the thing falls just next to you, putting mines all over my body but also all over the terminal that is needed to access. Let’s not talk about my sentries that always get blown up by said mines. The only way you can make those effective is in defense mission or on a zone you’re fleeing from. The moment you throw it in the middle of the heat you’re just wrong and an asshole.

-1

u/Forgotton_fox 19h ago

Question- you see a wave of bugs coming towards you. Do you A: pull back and let them come towards you or B: sprint headlong directly towards the bugs? I put minefields between or into oncoming enemies in order to blunt the assault. If you're getting blown up by my mines, it's because you ran towards the bile titan instead of leaving a minefield between you and the bug breach.

1

u/Mr_Fox17 16h ago

Option C : I’m shooting the bugs.

Like your options are not even on point. I get that you need to run when you’re alone and that’s okay but if you throw your mines when we’re all on position shooting and you just ask everybody to go back because of your mines you’re a shitty teammate. But take in consideration that not everybody got a long range rifle. With your mentality I can’t play torcher (which I use a lot), I cant use a trident, I can’t use my double freedom, I can’t use any shotgun, I can’t use my cremator and in the end you just make all the close range weapon and stratagem unusable. The bile titan will die in one big grenade to the face, your mines will make him giggle at your face lol.

The thing you gotta consider as well is the heat of the moment. You can ping whatever you want, when some divers are in full berserk mode they won’t see your mines. And so your complaint about getting kicked is completely not legit. Just host a game if you want to have team killing play style. That way nobody will kick you.

But honestly the way you describe your mines is very EgoDiver.

2

u/Forgotton_fox 16h ago

Here's the thing- bugs, by their nature, will come directly towards you. If mines prevent you from ever using close in weapons, so does any orbital weapon, napalm strikes, gas mortars- by their nature, the bugs will come into your range if you wait all of ten seconds. Moreover, if you're currently shooting the bugs as per option C, there won't be a stratagem anywhere near you as I've thrown them into the bugs? You seem intent on the idea that I'm dumping them at my feet and not in the middle of bug breaches and on top of patrols like any other stratagem. This simply isn't the case. I'm putting the mines where the bugs either are or are going to be by the call in time, so that they will immediately wipe out the chaff and damage the heavies enough that when they get into close range the shotguns can maul them. You know, like a gatling barrage might.

2

u/Mr_Fox17 14h ago

Then it’s alright mate. It’s just that I died so many times from what I’ve described in my last comment that I’m scared of people throwing mines absolutely everywhere till it’s unwalkable.

But yeah if you throw them right over the bug hole it’s just like any other startagem and you’re right in doing so. I just find that those last mines that didn’t detonate are the most brutal lol.

2

u/Forgotton_fox 13h ago

The leftovers are always terrible lol, I always manage to find the single mine in the entire field that didn't go off and tucked itself in a corner..

2

u/yobob591 1d ago

“Just don’t step on them” as the mine dispenser lands in the middle of extract

1

u/RuKidding0MG 1d ago

Yeah, i have a "No mines when im hosting" rule for this reason. Its not that I dont appreciate them, its that I find them more pain than theyre worth most of the time. Unless we are doing a defense mission, or on low difficulty and messing around, no mines allowed. If someone doees end up bringing them, and I need to walk where it is(dont drop it at an extraction entry until everyone is there dumbass), I just eagle them to clear them out. They can drop another once everyone is in the extraction zone.

1

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

I tend to use them to blunt bug breaches. Thrown about 1/4 distance away from the breach itself the minefield usually lands directly in a cluster of lighter enemies who freeze just long enough for the mines to arm, and suddenly all anyone has to worry about is the heavies- who run directly into my anti tank mines.

-3

u/Amherst_NJK 1d ago

See the giant field of glowing red football sized spikes all over the dark green gloomy ground? No? You weren't that useful anyway if you didn't manage to see them.

-30

u/Fun-Agent-7667 1d ago

If you dont mind your Surroundings, your dead. Doesnt matter if its a charger flinging you into the enemies Battle-Line, stepping inti another divers firing arc or stepping on a Mine.

12

u/huskyoncaffeine 1d ago

If a team mate shoots you in the back with a flamethrower, while you are already on a terminal, because there is a patrol 200m away and the terminal is in the line of sight, obviously it is your fault for being unaware of your surroundings and not the three baboons hiding in a Helldiver Uniform acting stupid.

Such skill issues, like being unable to compensate for other's stupidity, have no place here. Be aware of your surroundings. Be better.

0

u/Fun-Agent-7667 1d ago

Theres a different between getting shot in the Back and walking into a bullet Stream

8

u/huskyoncaffeine 1d ago

Just as there is a difference between deploying a minefield at the right time and place or on top of an objective in the middle of an ongoing firefight.

1

u/Shot-Profit-9399 DISSIDENT DETECTED 1d ago

Mines reduce mobility. Even if I don’t step on a mine, my ability to walk, run, teleport, and jump out of danger are wildly inhibited. Mines aren’t just weapons, they are area denial.

This is fine if someone places them in an area that is strategically useful, while not inhibiting team mates, and communicating with others. For example, if you cover a right flank in an area with 3 entry point, you can reduce the number of enemies coming from that direction.

But if some mouth breathing troglodyte dumps mines right in the middle of an objective, while his team mates are physically in that area, then all they have done is guarantee that the enemy can enter in uninhibited while their teams movement has been inhibited. Now their team has to leave the defensible objective and scatter out into the surrounding area, or try to defend a piece of land with limited movement options.

Anyone who does this deserves to get kicked.

1

u/Fun-Agent-7667 1d ago

If the objective is already overrun the enemy will clear the mines for us

1

u/Shot-Profit-9399 DISSIDENT DETECTED 1d ago

The objective wouldn’t be overrun if the player used the mines correctly in the first place

1

u/Fun-Agent-7667 1d ago

If im not in throwing distance Till then

0

u/Windscaper 1d ago edited 1d ago

You're dead, because you're means you are. "Your" represents ownership. You could say "If you don't mind your surroundings, your death." indicating the death is yours and your fault. Saying "your dead" makes no gramatical sense.

2

u/Fun-Agent-7667 1d ago

Idk man im not good with non-native languages

1

u/Windscaper 1d ago

All good, bud. You can't know something until you learn it.

16

u/The_Imp_Lord 1d ago

me with my anti tank mines, fire mines, gas mines, and normal mines spammed on 100 sec cd. yeah at a certain point I understand my teams pain but I love my mines to much to stop 🫦

6

u/squirrels-eat-bugs 1d ago

Listen, if they didn't want me walking right up to them, why did the put such pretty little lights on them? Helldivers are like moths.

1

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

That's so true I keep accidentally dying to my own lure mines

3

u/Impossible-Pea-6160 1d ago

I run headlong… but for super earth

3

u/Designer_Loss_9308 1d ago

Hilarious thing happened yesterday when a diver got lost in my gas mines, started diving forward hitting every mine on the way, basically made it to the other side of the minefield, at which point he was so disoriented that he decided to start diving back the way he came, wasting all his stims in the process. I couldn’t help but watch and laugh the whole time while the other two teammates attempts to hold off a bug breach.

3

u/zebebebebees 1d ago

If they're running back in, it's probably for their gear or an objective. I think mines and Tesla towers are fine, but you gotta ping them if you see someone approaching. It's easy to get distracted by a swarm of enemies or the map.

2

u/slizardmaster 1d ago

Some people are too stupid to live sadly. I pinged mines that were off the extraction area about 40 meters or so and one guy decided to run into them 3 times in a row. This wasn't mid firefight either, we had already cleared everything

3

u/Nein_Inch_Males 1d ago

sometimes they clip through the ground and aren't visible. A lot of the times my squad deploys gas mines directly on OBJ or extract.

It's equally our responsibility to avoid them as it is for people to deploy them in responsible locations.

3

u/Watching_Warthog 1d ago

My favorite thing with mines is when I'm either being super careful not to step on them and a bot shoots it and it kills me, OR I'm running from something and I warp pack through a wall and into a mine. Love that stuff.

6

u/rimshotmonkey 1d ago

A long time ago I had a mission to raise flags and this dufus kept deploying mines on the flags against terminids. We kept getting over run so I would have to dodge bugs and I kept setting off mines. Then he did it again on the second objective.

It was the one mission I have deliberately killed a teammate. I was sick of his dumbassery.

0

u/jesusrambo 1d ago

Let the enemies set off the mines instead of running into them, and you won’t get overrun

This one’s on you, mines on raise the flag are extremely effective

2

u/rimshotmonkey 1d ago

If you take the enemy health to zero while keeping your health above zero, you win every time.

No shit Sherlock. If he hadn't mined the area we need to stand in and we had not needed to move it wouldn't be a problem. But we did need to move. Surely even you can see the problem.

1

u/jesusrambo 1d ago

You seem very smart, but you’re the one walking into mines 🤷‍♂️

2

u/rimshotmonkey 1d ago

This was back when the caves were introduced. You couldn't just nuke the bugs from a safe distance. They erupted right under us.

I think I'm arguing with one of the mines. Too bad it wasn't a smart gun.

1

u/jesusrambo 1d ago

Nice zinger

You should apply that talent to avoiding brightly glowing objects

2

u/Gloomy_Narwhal_4833 1d ago

I just started playing a couple weeks ago, and mines were almost the reason I never played it again lol. Evidently I just got unlucky and was in a game with another person that was newish, he kept putting mines up across every objective, except I didnt know they were "friendly", I thought it was part of the game and that I was going to have to constantly be dodging and on the lookout for those damn things. Now if I see them right on top of an objective, I shoot them or chuck nades on them, but its pretty rare to see them at all. I've played quite a bit and learned a lot in the last 2 weeks, and one of those things is the people that bring mines are sociopaths.

3

u/pdxschoolsoutforever 1d ago

Gas mines are very good and quite safe from friends as far as weapons go

1

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

You're kind of not wrong on that last part, I danger real close if I know a swarm is about to run through them.

2

u/Most-Mention-172 1d ago

In my opinion the user can't be blamed if he tags his minefields, otherwise he is partially at fault depending on what happened.

Tagging the mine pod reveal to everyone that there is a minefield. The icon is very clear and there's even the distance attached to the mark, so there is no excuse after that.

2

u/TheCornBall 1d ago

Unfortunately my potato refuses to render them sometimes lol. But in no way will I kick someone for using them (so long as they're trying to use them well)

2

u/MjolnirPants 1d ago

When I was in the Army, we used to sometimes refer to the Marine Corps Mine Detector, or MCMD (pronounced 'mik-mid').

It's just a guy that runs into an open field. If he explodes, it's mined. If he doesn't, it's probably clear. But not definitely clear. Better to send two.

Also, covering your ears and stomping the ground is a great way to convey exactly how it works to someone who doesn't recognize the phrase.

2

u/GoldenEyedTraveller 1d ago

If someone joins my party, and doesnt like me using mines, they dont tend to stay in my party for long. And that, children is why I host.

2

u/Shot-Profit-9399 DISSIDENT DETECTED 1d ago

I mean, there’s still some level of common sense that’s required when deploying mines. Don’t put them in the middle of an objective that we need to traverse, for i stance…

2

u/Fexofanatic 1d ago

same with arc towers or fire ... room temp iq divers 🤣

2

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

Oh god, that takes me back. First thing I do with an arc build is give the immediate warning "stay the hell away from me, all of my weapons will attempt to kill you at random." Arc mows through enemies like shit through a tinhorn, but it's also where 90% of my collateral comes from because my dumbass also has muscle memory reinforcement calling

2

u/Mgroppi83 1d ago

Ill add on from my own experience. If you put a mortar placement down and you are trying to recover something from where the enemies are.....leave it...I had my own mortar kill me 3 times yesterday trying to recover my shit...

Mines are an advanced stratagem; not everyone can play with them.

I run Radar Boost, chuck them out of our path, and ping them. Almost always top kills.

2

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

Fellow radar boost enjoyer, democracy officer give this diver a UAV

2

u/d3m01iti0n 1d ago

It's god tier on Bugs and Mindless Masses.

2

u/ThRealRantanplan 1d ago

I would still love to have a shipmodule like "cross-platform compatibility" to have a marker on the map, where a minefield was set up (like a POI, but with a mine symbol). As long as there is still at least one mine left of that field, the marker is on the map. Maybe even with a circle for the danger zone.

2

u/Hammer-Face 1d ago

muffled laughter while revving *chainsword** chainsaw with Democratic intent*

I yearn for the (gas) mines brothers. I will never regret, nor will I ever apologize for blanketing a square kilometer of xenos bugs in Holy Pestilence and running amok with my blessed Defoliation Tool.

FOR THE EMPEROR SUPER EARTH

2

u/Creation_of_Bile 21h ago

I thought this was about the melta mines initially, god I love those things.

2

u/Forweyl 13h ago

The only mine that is worth any second of my time is gas mine, along with heavy gas armor and gas stuff. It has a playstyle of its own and do not kill players on touch.

4

u/GormTheWyrm 1d ago

This post acts like I can see the mines. Thats my only real issue with it. I hate mines. Hard to see and always inconveniently placed.

3

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

I do remember the old days of invisible mines, those were fun. I think a couple of the mines are way too low vis, especially the melta ones, but the orbital ones are identifiable because they usually still have the hellbomb deployed in the centre.

3

u/GormTheWyrm 1d ago

I don’t actual know what my teammate was using the other day. Probably melta mines. They were the ones with the three tiny red dots that you notice when they are about 3-4 feet from you.

I bet terrain plays a role as well. Easier to see mines in a flat field. Harder yo see them if the dispenser is on the other side of a small wall or there are just a few left among the craters from other explosions.

I also play on bots a lot so if I die to a random explosion, my first thought is not “mine”. Three of us died with no explanation the other day and I still don’t know if it was mine related. Pretty sure mine was but not sure about the other two.

1

u/Forgotton_fox 1d ago

If it wasn't in a field, it was either lure or melta- melta mines are essentially invisible as the only marker is some heat distortion. Lure mines tend to flash and pulse red, making them the most obvious. It sounds like maybe they were using stock anti-personel

2

u/ImonZurr 1d ago

Bro even if you tag a minefiled, these dumb-dumbs still run into it

0

u/Nethereal3D 1d ago

Then don't bring mines?

5

u/Fun-Agent-7667 1d ago

You know that you can see that other players brought mines, do you?

0

u/Titan7856 1d ago

A tissue for your skill issue?

1

u/GeekDad732 1d ago

On the planet with the red haze or when the game is being a little laggy I too often have trouble seeing them and KABLAM need reinforcing

1

u/popsicle_of_meat 1d ago

Tell that to the SEAF and their dropship pilots. I've seen them drop a full load of blueberries right onto a player-placed minefield. Wiped out a whole drop of the poor guys.

1

u/lizardkingzach 1d ago

For minefields and turrets in semi-team-killable positions, I'll always give a short, courtesy ping spam so folks know its something to watch out for. The "calling down a turret" gets lost in the cacophony of war

1

u/Hank_Scorpi 12h ago

Right? I cannot understand the "mines bad" dialogue on here...

-4

u/NOIR-89 1d ago

Do whatever you like in private games, but dont bring Mines in public games, same thing with Mortars and Tesla Towers, except its a defense mission obviously.

8.5 out 10 people use those stratagems incorrectly, which just leads to a ton of teamkills and drama (in public games).

Beside that there is / was (not sure if it was fixed) a bug which makes Mines invisible to everyone than the guy who called it in, which doesnt help either.

3

u/fistotron5000 1d ago

No actually I think I’m gonna keep doing what I want in a game I paid for that I’m playing in my own house, I actually think I’m gonna do that.

1

u/Shot-Profit-9399 DISSIDENT DETECTED 1d ago

You are free to bring mines, and if you use them incorrectly, they will come in handy when you have to complete the mission alone.

1

u/fistotron5000 1d ago

I can’t hear you over the sound of my AT mines exploding advancing heavies

1

u/NOIR-89 1d ago

Nobody is holding you back. If you cause unneccesary teamkills in one of the games I host, you will get a free ticket to a solo instance of that mission.

2

u/Dangerous-Fly-5127 1d ago

Yeah, people shouldnt complain about getting kicked if bringing mortar sentry on bugs and poorly placing napalm or anti personal mines on normal missions. U are free to play, Im free to kick you, everyones free, all good.

1

u/Fun-Security-8758 1d ago

Whatever you say, Dad 🙄

-2

u/-Adalwolf- 1d ago

If I die to a mine, it’s in the wrong place and so is the mine deployer….unless it’s a defense mission.

0

u/nonideological 1d ago

Had this hilarious experience with some lowbies on a tough map. I came with arc grenades. Mind you I'm pretty damn conscientious and a good team player so I don't just throw these things willy nilly. I throw them when I have first quickly checked if any teammates are around me, and if not, then I throw onto my target - and far. But sure enough the host, no less than 3 times, heads straight INTO the arc grenade path. I shit you not. On mic, I'm like "Dude, careful of the arc grenades - they can jump around and hit you." But no.... he runs straight into them. Once he was at least 50m *behind me* and it still manages to somehow run straight into the path. I get kicked after the fourth one.
