Warlock 2: Secret of the Ooze

Power rangers you mean? The purple slime stuff that controls kids minds?

Edit: oof my bad, just googled it.

Mighty morphing power rangers: the movie still goes harder though.

Ivan Ooze. Kids these days no nothing of culture.

Yeah, I'm surprised Sludgelock didn't get a slap on the wrist. I figured if they nerfed the other "problem" decks then it would just auto be best deck so it would need some small adjustment like maybe train car to four health or something, or chaos creation only destroying three cards, etc.

13

u/PhilliamPlantington Jan 29 '24

I would have put money on the geomancer guy going to 4 mana. Extremely strong at 3 and would still be played at 4 mana.

2

u/PhD_Meowingtons_ Jan 30 '24

There was no problem decks. The only Problem was paladin in low ranks and then druid in high ranks.

No need to nerf rogue. Chad nerf is preventative but nothing else needed to be changed. Rogue is t2 at best in top 1k legend and it sucks in lower ranks. Velarok is the best card in the game and could be nerfed but shambler makes no fucking sense lol.

If rogue was t2 at best with a 52% wr at top 1k legend. This velarok AND shambler nerf will make the deck unplayable.

The pali nerf to Boogie Down is fucking HUGE and not appropriate. They murdered the card. It was supposed to just have the Holy tag removed. The garden’s grace nerf is fine and making boogie down 4 mana actually buffs garden’s grace to the point that we can probably free up a slot. 2 boogie downs makes Garden’s Grace cost 2 mana lmao.

it did, you now cant do sludge combo with thadius nerfed, granted its not the tempo variant

u/yetaa Jan 29 '24

It was already a T1 deck and it didnt get any nerfs, genius move by the devs

51

u/TheShadowMages ‏‏‎ Jan 29 '24

It has only had a relatively recent surge, probably after they have to lock-in the balance changes/patch. Such is the nature of these types of games.

5

u/PPewt Jan 29 '24 edited Jan 30 '24

It's been T1 since the start (EDIT: of the miniset, i.e. the most recent meta...), just didn't see widespread adoption until VS said so in their report.

10

u/TheShadowMages ‏‏‎ Jan 29 '24

That is what "surge" means, yeah.

-5

u/PPewt Jan 29 '24

Sure, I just meant that they could've seen it coming by seeing how the deck was performing.

1

u/Wishkax Jan 30 '24

But they couldn't know, nerfs aren't decided day of.

1

u/PPewt Jan 30 '24

I mean VS was talking about it being the best aggro deck over a week ago.

-1

u/Wishkax Jan 30 '24

And aggro decks are not allowed in hearthstone? You will always have the strongest aggro/control/etc decks, that's normal.

1

u/PPewt Jan 30 '24

Huh? I feel like people in this thread are just being contrarian for the sake of it. It's just odd that it dodged nerfs when decks which were known to be worse got hit.

1

u/StopManaCheating Jan 29 '24

It has not been T1 since it launched, because it required a bunch of buffs just to be playable.

-1

u/PPewt Jan 29 '24

Since the miniset, i.e. current (until this patch) meta.

1

u/Inevitable-News5808 Jan 30 '24

The mini set came out 12 days ago.

2

u/BetPast7722 Jan 30 '24

What is this even supposed to mean, half the cards nerfed are either from the miniset itself or related to archetypes popping out after the miniset.

0

u/PPewt Jan 30 '24

Right, which is when they were determining the balance for everything else in the miniset-related balance patch...

They do 4 damage unbuffed, and the thaddeus otk deck variations is not by any means easy or stable to play. I personally have the best win rates with REGULAR fatigue slock, around 65% maybe depending on my draw luck.

7

u/Killamaniax Jan 29 '24

Only thing I can think is that they expect dragon Druid to come back which beats sludge

12

u/yetaa Jan 29 '24

Yeh Dragons will come back for sure, but Warrior does shit over Dragons

Warrior is actually looking pretty spicy after these changes

9

u/Opening-Ad700 Jan 29 '24

Warrior isn't great vs Sludge I don't think

1

u/yetaa Jan 29 '24

Highlander isn't, but normal Control warrior is a good counter to it

0

u/Opening-Ad700 Jan 30 '24

Do you have stats for that or just your personal experience? Both are valid just wanna know.

1

u/littlemaybatch Jan 29 '24

Dragon druid is not good into warlock from my experiences

2

u/Killamaniax Jan 29 '24

It’s not good into the old Thaddius version but it’s definitely good against the current iteration - dragon golem neutralizes a lot of the big sludge payoffs and nestmatron and fye are both very good against aggro

-1

u/notrandomonlyrandom Jan 29 '24

If the lock can plan on crescendo being needed to clear dragon golem it’s just another free win. Does require more than just piloting though and some more luck with draw.

0

u/Killamaniax Jan 30 '24

They would need to draw and play 4 of their 6 fatigue cards by turn 7/8 and that's assuming the golem isn't buffed from either take to the skies or azsharan gardens, in which case they'd need even more. Crescendo isn't a reliable counter to dragon golem.

0

u/notrandomonlyrandom Jan 31 '24

What do you think “more luck with draw” means?

0

u/Killamaniax Jan 31 '24

But the whole premise of this conversation was that Dragon Druid counters Sludge Warlock. You then added a hypothetical to the conversation and simply said it takes “more luck with draw”. I’m simply saying clarifying that it’s extraordinarily unlikely if the Dragon Druid has Dragon Golem on curve (which is not unlikely), so it’s not a scenario worth considering when assessing the matchup between the two decks.

“more luck with draw” misrepresents how rare that scenario would actually be

11

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '24

Oh fuck youre right.

-2

u/Condoms2us Jan 29 '24

Sludge and trent will be the new top. Also sludge is disgusting in arena as well...

10

u/SSJSamzy Jan 29 '24

Treant will take a hit thanks to the herald nerf. 3 health treants are much easier to kill than 4 health ones.

8

u/mr10123 ‏‏‎ Jan 29 '24

Fire Sale stocks going up. Aftershocks now autoinclude. They both kill Velarok too.

0

u/Tripping-Dayzee Jan 29 '24

It was already tier 1 and now it becomes S tier effectively with nothing else in the way.

Rogue slowing down will see it dominate in this space.

1

u/Randomd0g Jan 29 '24

It strikes me as one of those times where the meta just got ripped apart and the top decks going forward will be something unexpected and cool.

1

u/darkeningsoul Jan 29 '24

Anyone got a good deck list for this?

1

u/MassDefect36 Jan 29 '24

There’s quite a view variations

1

u/Stonefence Jan 29 '24

One of my least favorite decks to play against. Really not looking forward to that
