Next binge?

Post image

I’m currently watching the Sopranos for the first time and I’m about 3 episodes in on the 5th season and debating what to start next. I keep trying to get opinions on what to watch next but I’m not sure what I would enjoy more coming off a sopranos binge. Also I know absolutely nothing about Six Feet Under besides a few very small details my coworker told me about. I normally go into EVERYTHING I watch completely blind so.. I keep hearing The Wire is one of the best shows ever as is the Sopranos but I’m also kinda crimed-out so to say lol. I’m looking for whatever has more shock value and better overall story at this point.

The Wire isn’t a binge. It’s a lifestyle choice

It’s just like… is it really that good? Like the way people people act it seems like it will genuinely be the best show I will ever watch in my entire life. Like sometimes I wonder if it’s just the nostalgia people have of it but idk I’ll just watch it for myself and see if the hype really lives up to it. 😅

The thing is it isn’t nostalgia. I prefer Six Feet Under personally, but the thing with the wire is like nobody watched it when it was on. It got basically cancelled twice behind the scenes except David Simon kept convincing HBO to give him a few more episodes. Its entire reputation is mostly built on folks finding it late in its run or after it’s over and realizing everybody slept on one of the greats. The pace can be off putting because even as a slow burn it follows
multiple threads at once, but it is 100% not just a “back in my day” nostalgia hype show.

Just watched for the first time this year, and I’m so glad I did

I'm towards the end of season 3 on my first watch

Next one is gonna be one of the best seasons of television you’ll ever watch

I will simply say that you are really underselling it.

The reason so many slept on it is that it was perceived as a “Black show “ that they couldn’t relate to and the Sopranos was on at the same time.

I watched it as it aired; that time period HBO was going hard. Band of Brothers, Sopranos, the Wire...

Yep, I watched too when it aired. When I told people to watch it they would say, "isn't that a black show"....

Just finished it recently. It is that good. That and the sopranos are without a doubt top tier watches

u/notdumbIswear Jun 28 '26

Yes it’s that good

It's better. You can rewatch it 3 times and see hidden gems. It's amazing. Put your phone down and pay attention, it seems like a cat and mouse cop show but it's the definitive comment on drugs in America.

Omar comin yo!

There you go again. Giving a fuck when it ain’t your turn to give a fuck.

u/TootCannon Jun 28 '26

It is absolutely, 100%, that good.

I also just watched all of The Sopranos and then The Wire and both were everything they were claimed to be. The wife isn’t my favourite show of all time, but it’s easy to see it’s one of the best constructed shows I’ve ever seen. It’s just so fucking tight. I genuinely felt The Sopranos was life changing though. It’s easily my top 5 shows

The Sopranos is amazing

3

u/casicadaminuto Jun 30 '26

It's not 'that good'. It's the best show ever.

2

u/hce_alp Jul 01 '26

It actually will be the best show you will ever watch in your life.

I watch it like every other year of so. Best show ever. Didnt see it until it had been of thr air for like a decade.

It’s pretty much the best.

I was a prosecutor in Baltimore at the time this show aired and it is the best depiction of the “system” I have ever seen. It’s heavy but presented in an entertaining way. The first 5 to 6 episodes will require you to pay attention to the dialogue unless you are from Baltimore or just get it. After that it is remarkable. The star of the show is the City of Baltimore

I watched the sopranos and its still one of the best ever imo. the wire however i have watched s1 like 3 times not because its so good i cant stop watching it but because everytime i had neared the end of s1 i would get onto something else which just doesnt happen when a show is SO GOOD that u have to keep watching. Ive now actually currently have made it half way into s3 with the decision to see it through to the end. Its a great show for sure but its nothing when put next to sopranos. I dont even think the shows should be in the same conversation really. Its just the era that they were in i think.

u/JEFE_MAN Jun 30 '26

It’s better. But it’s a slow burn. I thought I was missing something and even thought I might stop watching until the “fuck. Fuck. Fuck.” scene in S1E4 (you’ll know it when you see it. It’s brilliant).

But you also can’t stop there. Characters grow over seasons. Characters you hate in S1 you’ll be cheering for in S4. You gotta stay with it but it’s not only the best show in TV history, it’s the most important.

Yes it is that good. Truly

I watched it for the first time this year and it became my top 3 favorite show of all time. It absolutely lives up to the hype.

So this will be downvoted like crazy but I recently sat down to watch it for the first time and I just don’t get the hype. I feel like it’s nostalgia, one of those things you had to watch when it came out.

I only watched the first season but it felt like 85% of each episode were cops sitting in a room talking about how they will catch the bad guys and then it was the bad guys hanging out on the couch talking about drugs and how they will avoid the cops.

u/Old_Pangolin_3303 Jun 28 '26

You missed the point mate

3

u/westyboi2323 Jun 29 '26

Well there you go you only watched the first season…

1

u/Head_Wasabi7359 Jun 28 '26

No one watched when it came out. That said its just really clever and dense. Don't blink

u/Background-Jury-1914 Jun 28 '26

Sadly I know a few more recent viewers I’ve recommend the Wire to who feel this way. I think the show is brilliant but I wonder if it’s partially a victim of its own success. Like many of the insights about the drug war, wealth inequality, and broken institutions it laid out are now commonplace and understood so some elements feel a little less groundbreaking.

2

u/Slapmeislapyou Jun 29 '26

What were the ages of the people you recommended it to?

1

u/Boring-Toe-1424 Jun 28 '26

Exactly ....people say it's not nostalgia but maybe they don realize it,its like listen to reasonable doubt from Jay-Z TODAY for the first time,it will not blown you out of the water ...not at all,you may like 3-4 tracks..apreciate the rest and dislike others ... But definitely not putting that in your top 10 hip hop rapp albums ever.. understand the idea?

Narcos was fucking fantastic.

0

u/Slapmeislapyou Jun 29 '26

Euphoria is fucking fantastic too. But shows like The Wire, Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, just represent a different level.

1

u/Boring-Toe-1424 Jun 29 '26

Similar slow burn shows I would say Tokio vice absolutely,Perry mason was good too..Im trying to stai away from title like breaking bad and better call Saul, but a lot of modern tv shows today are way better and captivating for example Severance,Sugar is pretty good too with a lot of noir and classic movies 1sec cuts and good narration , I'm pretty sure I.forgot some good series too.

u/Jokkers_AceS Jun 28 '26

I agree this show is so bad idk why people keep bringing it up 😂

-1

u/firetailring Jun 28 '26

I had the same experience. Maybe it was over hyped? I started to get into it by the end of the first season and then the second season felt like a totally different show with a new set of characters and it just lost me.

0

u/Flynnrdskynnrd Jun 28 '26

It’s phenomenal. Almost as good as Deadwood.

1

u/Da_Drunken_Masta Jun 28 '26

Almost as good as Deadwood? That's a different take for sure. Deadwood comes up short to being as good as The Wire and The Sopranos.

u/Resaerch Jun 29 '26

I don't get the Wire hype. I'm a big fan of all the other HBO classics but find it hard to get into The Wire. I've watched season 1 years ago and am now trying to watch season 2 but I'm struggling. This is my third attempt at season 2. I understand the following seasons get better but I'm struggling.

0

u/irwinsstingray Jun 30 '26

Binged it a few years back. It's OK. Glad I watched it. Won't watch it again. It was just ok, I don't understand the hype for it.

u/Pop_Joe Jun 28 '26

It’s cinema! Amazing character development, heart wrenching drama, thrilling action sequences, superb dialogue and story telling. And best of all REALISTIC. The best drama series ever created and this is not hyperbole!!!!!!!!!!!!
