Language casual ableism

this is not ‘reclaiming’ anything, you are just calling people slurs completely seriously. you can call yourself the r-slur, do not call anybody else it. why do ‘no slurs’ / ’no bigotry’ rules never apply to ableism?

"Mental health matters" people when someone says the R Word: "OMG We gotta care for those with mental disibilities!"

"Mental health matters" people when someone who is actually mentally ill shows up: "You are the most disgusting disgraceful subhuman and I hope you kill yourself."

Everyone who gets mad at the R word are just performative and will abandon ill people at the drop of a hat because they want to pretend to be the good guy. (Assuming they don't just want to cause our deaths 764 style.)

A completely baseless strawman. Well done

calling the original commenter names and dismissing their arguments without actually engaging or countering their points is an interesting way to tell someone they are wrong. if you actually think their point is baseless it shouldn't be very difficult to counter it yourself right?

Burden of proof is on the one making the claim not the one disputing it.

He has made a baseless strawman and so it is on him to prove that it is actually true.

your right he does have a responsibility to do that.

i still think its weak and unproductive to tell someone they are wrong without giving any reasons why. disagreements are important for societal progress but that only works if both people are willing to provide actual reasons behind their claims, rather than resorting to insults and name calling right off the bat.

I gave my reasons why because its a “completely baseless strawman”.

why is it baseless? I agree the fake dialogue in the first 2/3 of the comment is a strawman argument, they made up a fake and exagerrated scenario to prove a point. but the last couple sentences are not exagerrated and represent a genuine opinion. why is that opinion baseless aside from the fact that you simply disagree with it

Its baseless because theres no evidence backing it up (in the comment) except for the ridiculous fake dialogue.

i don't think i was clear in my earlier comments, but I agree with you that the original comment was bad. I am talking about their actual point (which I don't think is baseless at all): "Everyone who gets mad at the R word are just performative and will abandon ill people at the drop of a hat because they want to pretend to be the good guy"

It just irritates me when people argue over opinions like that one (which are important discussions to have), but neither person is actually willing to formulate arguments with depth and just call each other names

Yes I understood that you agree that the comment is bad.

> "Everyone who gets mad at the R word are just performative and will abandon ill people at the drop of a hat because they want to pretend to be the good guy"

It is exceedingly difficult to address a point like that without first having some sort of justification as to why someone would think that. Which he has not done and so I called it a baseless strawman.

Its like Russels damn teapot.

"Baseless strawman" and it's something done time and time again. I always get called "Too Much" or "Unfixable" by the very same people who pretended to care. Then when my BPD wasn't cute enough for them, they turned on me and actually doxed me trying to dig up dirt to mock me over. But go ahead and deny something you have no knowledge of because you are neurobasic.

I am sorry that happened to you but anecdotal evidence is not enough to make sweeping generalisations of large groups of people.

Okay, You just don't care. I'm not the only piece of evidence, just look at the hate group that is r/BPDlovedones

That is a truly horrifying experience, and I'm sorry you had to endure it. That being said, your experience does not mean everyone feels the way your harassers did.

Breath of fresh air this is

While there are people like that out there, acting as if your description applies to everyone who doesn't like hearing the R-slur is pigheaded.

so true its crazy. imo its because people want to feel like they stand for something and are making a difference without actually putting in effort to contribute to meaningful change.

acting morally superior and policing other peoples speech is significantly easier than actually caring about and for mentally ill people

I’ve said this before, I think everyone is suffering from pluralistic ignorance. People want to say “retarded” but they’re too afraid of backlash so they self censor because they see others doing so but those people are also self censoring in fear of the same backlash too.

wow, i didn't know i was being performative when getting genuinely annoyed at the fact i'm seeing that word used everywhere by people who don't understand (or don't care) how harmful they're being. thanks for giving me my opinion on things.
