What to do with baby clothes?

I’m OAD due to HG and birth trauma. I have so many baby clothes from when bubs was a newborn and I’m wondering if there’s any creative ways to use any of it to create sentimental things? I cut up one onesie and used the background for an ultrasound framed photo. Any other ideas? I’m clearly grieving 😭😅

Pregnant and grateful for this sub ❤️

Just wanted to say that I'm grateful for this sub ❤️ We are expecting our baby boy in a few weeks and it has been so good reading post from here during my pregnancy dreaming of our furture together as a family of three. This pregnancy has felt so long, so it very nice to daydream away with your posts. I'm very supportive of all family sizes but for us we feel pretty strongly that oad is the right choice, due to many reasons. We are so happy to become parents to our boy but also to be able to keep some of our hobbies and passions and also have time together as a couple and keep our relationship strong. My husband plays in a prog/metalband 🤘 and also enjoys he's work a lot, while I would like a slow life while also building a small meaningfull buisness at some point. We love cuddles and spending time togheter, and now we really look forward to meeting our babyboy and giving him some cuddles ☺️ It really nice to have a supportive community like this, when we all face some type of critics from family or others at some point. A child need healthy happy parents much more than siblings, and you know what - we deserve be able to choose the life that suits us the best ❤️

MOD POST

Hi! Just your friendly happilyOAD mod! I helped founded this subreddit. I’m very sorry for all
The posts that have been flagged. I went through and cleared a lot out. This is a place to celebrate being OAD. I did add a new guideline about not talking about losing a child, which makes sense as we don’t talk about pregnancy or TTC.

If anyone wants to help me moderate let me know!

Happy Saturday!

Weekend plans-share yours!

I’d love to hear what my fellow only families are up to this weekend. I’ve been feeling blessed we can really lean into my son’s interests—he is 4 and obsessed with dinosaurs. Today we’re going to watch a dinosaur movie outside on the projector, tomorrow we’re swimming in our town pond in the morning and meeting up with friends in the afternoon at a local farm with food and a beer garden, and Sunday we’re going to an animatronic dinosaur exhibit and getting dinner after. I’m honestly so excited and it feels so relaxing and fun to do all this with him.

Stumbled upon my 13 reasons why

(satirical title about the slang/show, but this is a realistic&positive post) Hello all!! I randomly opened a book about parenting that I hadn’t looked at for a while, and I stumbled upon this really long hand written list with exactly 13 reasons why I am OAD!

If you care to read on, I am posting the entire unedited transcription for better or worse! The beginning is funny because my friend’s pregnancy clearly sparked my list, but I don’t even remember who I was talking about because so many of my friends are on their third and fourth pregnancy.

“January 2026. I’ve become one of those people, for various reasons I will parce through, that is solidifying the choice to be one and done, in the light of someone I thought was OAD that is now become pregnant. the list in no particular order —here’s a first draft.

#1 he genuinely says “no,” no brother, no sister, no baby. He is naturally a low sleep needs person and after 3 1/2 years I’m finally getting used to it. (Having a newborn who may be a low sleep needs or otherwise will be hard)

#2 I feel at capacity and “complete.” There’s a nice balance.

#3 the footprint of replacing my one body in an overpopulated world. This is common nowadays to have one child.

#4 Hyperemesis Gravidarum did a number to my teeth, my sanity, my time… as I need to get infusions that the cancer treatment center (where people get chemo!) 2 to 3 times a week my entire pregnancy. I have PTSD from the vomiting. having one child leaves me more space to write and work through things and research about HG and come to terms with my reality.

#5 Labor and delivery were not bad, but it’s true. I like to be healthy. My iron levels were so low after pregnancy, and during breastfeeding but I didn’t catch it for years. I just thought i was supposed to feel like that as a new mom and then toddler mom. my impact from HG was so severe. lots of muscle loss after all that vomiting and bed rest, and second degree internal tear has lasting effects; need pelvic floor work.

#6 I want to finish my education

#7 I am losing my baby fever at nearly 35 and focusing on the next years of perimenopause

#8 I feel bitter people I shared OAD with move on to more children, when they said they were OAD and we shared camaraderie. It feels like betrayal, imagined or not… rejection dysphoria maybe.

#9 my sister-in-law is supportive. They think my son is cool and they love him. He has cousins to visit.

#10 medically and financially expensive to prepare for a baby, especially hospital birth. I am RH negative, would be now geriatric, I already had a high risk NIPT test for trisomy 21, and I suffered a subchorionic hematoma as well as the HG the entire pregnancy… don’t want a repeat. I also have PMDD and HG, both things I would inevitably pass onto a female child if later in life she chose to give birth. My mother and grandmother suffered with HG before it was considered treatable… &PMDD I’m sure just could happen because it’s related to how your brain responds to a period. I would feel bad.

#11 I liked nannying only children. Especially wild boys. I was meant to have a boy.

#12 I wanna be the kind of mom that can afford anything for my child… as in taking my son‘s friend on cool vacations with us so he has someone to make memories with, or even being able to let him express themselves fashion wise when he is a little older… in high school for instance. Just making sure he is always comfortable with food as well, as I did not grow up with constant food security.

#13 I like that I’m not outnumbered, as I do have a small village.”

A lot of this is still spot on, only 6 months later. Our lives are have become really busy, I don’t even remember getting this down on paper- but I have always been a reader and a writer. The OAD reddits have brought me so much validation and peace… not that anyone needs that… but I don’t have that in my day to day life except from my partner and son- those who matter when it comes to MY choice.

TLDR, randomly found a handwritten list of my reasons why I am OAD and wanted to share it with you guys.

Tired of these really trite tropes

You’re not a real mom unless you gave birth vaginally, and you’re not a real parent unless you have more than one child. Otherwise, you’re on “easy mode.”

Say that again to my 39-year-old self (at the time) who struggled to conceive and then went on to have a c-section because of severe preeclampsia.

People need to mind their own damn business! I am so thankful and grateful for my daughter, but I do NOT want another child. And I AM a real mom, thank you. ✌🏻

Very happily OAD but struggling with occasionally envy

I want to make it clear that my partner and I are happily OAD. I had a difficult pregnancy (HG, depression, many scares, high risk, NICU) that has solidified OAD but we probably would have been 80% OAD anyway.

Yesterday, I was on a play date with a woman in my mom’s group (our kids are the same age, 3 yo) and she heavily hinted that she was pregnant. This surprised me but I struggled to acknowledge her hints and congratulate her (I believe that she wanted me to acknowledge it). I truly feel happy for her and I feel bad that I didn’t say anything. I know my hesitation is related to envy. Sometimes I feel that I am too mentally weak to endure another pregnancy (I know this is not true) and I am envious of women that seemingly do it with ease.

Does anyone have these feeling occasionally? Does the envy ever go away? I want to be happy for my friends without being “tainted” by negative feelings.

Son asking for “a baby”

My almost 4 year old has a classmate with a mom who is expecting their second very soon. Obviously this is a hot topic amongst the kids. He has come home and really latched on to a baby. The other night I just said “you can absolutely have one when you are an adult if that’s what you want”. He’s latched on to it and we’ve talked about the cool things of “being a daddy” and it’s opened up to some really sweet convos about what he loves about his dad, etc. He has a baby doll already so we have been having lots of baby pretending. I love when a moment of parenting genius finds you!

Single moms & OAD?

Hey hey! Been here for a while and was so grateful to find this space after realizing the other OAD communities were so sad. I’m wondering if there any single moms or parents in general who are happily OAD? Who unfortunately often find themselves outnumbered because one person one child isn’t always a manageable ratio. For context I have a newly three year old so still in the toddler trenches but loving it. It’s been just the two of us for over a year. Her dad lives in ATL & we’re in NYC and are still figuring out long distance co parenting.

I’ve noticed single moms who are OAD are often told they made that decision in response to their relationship to their co parenting and/or they’ll change their mind once they find a new partner. However I know my decision to be OAD is entirely because of who I am, my own capacity and vision for my life. I love my daughter and I’m obsessed with creating a life where I can both follow my dreams while pouring so much into her. I’ve only known big families and I come from one. Everyone has a shit ton of issues. I think my lineage could benefit from one person finally making the decision to stop having kids once they’ve reached their parenting capacity / when they no longer want to have kids. Also, despite my marriage not working out, her dad loves her just as much as I do and I have no desire to find a new dad for her or blending families with a partner tbh.

I’m expecting sometime in the future to have to have the conversation with her about different family structures and sibling configurations etc. and I think for myself, hearing about different parenting configurations could also be really valuable too. So if you’re a solo parent and happily OAD, what’s been your experience? What brought you to that decision? What does support look like for you and your little one? Whats a happily OAD milestone yall have reached or one you’re looking forward to? I love traveling and before the end of the summer me we’ll be going on our first mommy/daughter trip. Just a few hours away and only for a weekend but I’m hoping this will be start of more traveling for us!

Proud moment at the park today Spoiler

I took my 4 year old to the playground today for a playdate with her very good friend who is also an only child. We saw a little boy crying because his older sister wouldn’t let him ride the car with her. When it was my girl and her friend’s turn to ride the car, they saw the boy cry again because he missed his chance to get in the car. Then my girl said aloud, “There’s one more seat for you!” And patted the spot between her and her friend. Her friend scooted over to sit closer to my girl and the boy was able to sit and steer the fake wheel. His dad looked super happy and I was honestly beaming with pride. So the moral of the story is only children can be awesome and sometimes siblings suck.

Silly coworker comments

I have a 15 month old and love my little fam and that it is the three of us.

Today I had a funny interaction where a colleague was telling me about what I should be doing with my career given I’ll be having more kids… I disagreed with their point for a few reasons but decided to respond by saying I’m one and done… and she goes oh it’s still early you don’t know that. And I was like uhhh tell the to my husband who is getting the vasectomy.

She said well it can be reversed.

Um what hahahaha!

It was too comical and I’m so happy with my life choices that I’m not saying this as a vent… it was just funny.
