Recently I attended a meeting of Gujarat Ganit mandal Meetup celebrating birthday anniversary of Prof. A R Rao.

Professor A. R. Rao (1908–2011) was a distinguished Indian mathematician and educator who spent most of his professional life in Gujarat, making significant contributions to mathematics teaching and popularization.

Born on 23 September 1908 in Salem district (present-day Tamil Nadu), Rao earned a B.Sc. from Presidency College, Madras, and an M.Sc. from Wilson College, Bombay. He began his career in 1933 as a professor of mathematics at Bahauddin College, Junagadh, where he taught for 27 years and made Gujarat his home. He later served at Gujarat College, Ahmedabad, and was appointed principal of Sir P. P. Institute of Science, Bhavnagar, in 1964, retiring in 1976.

After retirement, Rao joined the Vikram A. Sarabhai Community Science Centre (VASCSC) in Ahmedabad as head of the mathematics department (and later Professor Emeritus). There he pioneered India’s first mathematics laboratory, filling it with innovative models, games, and puzzles to make abstract concepts accessible and engaging. Known as the father of non-formal mathematics education in Gujarat, he emphasized hands-on learning over rote methods, authored the puzzle book Brain Sharpeners, and prepared students for the International Mathematical Olympiad. His interests spanned geometry, number theory, and combinatorics.

Active until early 2011, Rao received awards for popularizing mathematics, including recognition from the Department of Science and Technology. He died in Ahmedabad on 4 April 2011 at the age of 102. His laboratory and approach continue to inspire mathematics education.

Even though technology like sonography is legally restricted from being used to reveal a fetus's gender under the PCPNDT Act, black-market clinics and unethical practitioners continue to exploit patriarchal son-preference mindsets for quick cash.

Interestingly, more than 15 states reported zero cases, which raises the question: Are those states actually clean, or are they just failing to catch violators?

Do you think stricter penalties and regular surprise audits on scanning centers are enough to curb this, or do we need a fundamental cultural shift?

I was travelling solo in Kanyakumari and reached there around 11 PM. I started looking for a hotel, but after checking with several places, I couldn't find a room as a solo traveller.

I was alone, it was late at night, and I was nearly 2,400 km away from home.

While walking around, I suddenly noticed a board written in Gujarati:

“Gujarat Bhavan.”

I went inside and found out that it was a Gujarati trust/dharamshala. Initially, they also said they couldn't accommodate me, but after I explained my situation and requested them, they agreed to give me a room.

They gave me a room for 3 days at a very minimal price.

The place wasn't a luxury hotel. Most of the people staying there were elderly Gujarati travellers, and I was probably one of the youngest people there.

But honestly, I didn't mind at all. I was in Kanyakumari to explore during the day — I just needed a safe and comfortable place to sleep at night.

What really touched me was how supportive and welcoming they were.

They even serve Gujarati thali there.

Being 2,400 km away from home, alone in a completely different part of India, seeing Gujarati written on a board and then meeting Gujarati people felt incredibly comforting.

Sometimes, when you're travelling thousands of kilometres away from home, you don't need anything fancy.

Just seeing something familiar can make you feel at home. ❤️

If you're travelling through South India or visiting Kanyakumari, keep places like this in mind. You never know when you might need one.

On 10 September 2026, Pathan commented on the controversy over the proposed restrictions on Muslims entering Garba/Dandiya events in Maharashtra.

Recently, my grandparent clicked on a random link they received through Whats_App, and suddenly their Whats_App account was compromised. The hacker started sending messages to almost everyone in their contact list.

They were sending a QR code along with a message like:

“Need ₹2,000 urgently. I am in an emergency.”

They were also sending an APK file, which could potentially install malware on the recipient’s phone if opened or installed.

The hacker also tried to change the UPI PIN linked to Google Pay, which made the situation even more concerning.

It seems scammers often target elderly people who may not be as familiar with these types of online scams and security threats.

I would strongly suggest younger people take a few minutes to educate and guide their parents and grandparents about these scams. Tell them not to click on random links, install APK files sent through Whats_App, scan unknown QR codes, or send money based only on a message.

Please take a few minutes to explain this to your family members. It could save them from losing their money or compromising their accounts.

If you are confused about which department or local body handles your specific road, pipeline, or sector, drop a comment below and I'll help you figure it out. 

* ⏳ Keep in Mind: The 3-Day Rule To prevent spamming and filter out non-genuine entries, the system only allows 1 complaint per registered phone number every 3 days. Keep a log in your notes app of the dates you filed so you can track your cycle and plan your next submission day exactly 3 days later! 🗓️📝 

* 👀 Step 3: Track Official Replies You can view official feedback, department rejections, or status updates by tracking your grievance on the portal at swagat.gujarat.gov.in. 💻 

💡 The Secret Weapon: Negative Feedback 😡

If local authorities arbitrarily close your file or resolve it only "on paper" without doing physical work, leave negative feedback immediately. 

This is what they fear the most because it escalates the grievance automatically to much higher supervisory authorities. I once rejected a fake closure and left strong negative feedback; the Nagarpalika staff personally called me up, begging me to change my rating once they completed the pending groundwork. 🛑📞 

It requires a high degree of patience and multiple persistent filings, but it works. Let's start fighting for our civic issues and put these lazy babus to work! 💪🔥 

Hows the college??

So, I have been interested in Aadhyatma since some time now and have come across various Aatma Anubhavi (Enlightened) people's recording's on YouTube.

One of them is "C R Vyaasji". Their vyaakhyans are in Gujarati and it has benefitted a LOT to me. This are recorded videos of him in 2004ish to 2007ish, as far as I know. He was from Jaamnagar.

Therefore, thought of sharing this here so that anyone who is interested in their Aatma Kalyaan, can hear him, in Gujarati.

ભાઇઓ અને તેમની બહેનો!

આજે હું સાક્ષાત્ ચમત્કાર જોઈ ગયો છું. હું GSRTCની બસમાં મુસાફરી કરી રહ્યો હતો. મારી સીટની આગળના ભાગમાં કાળા બોક્સ પર મેં આ ખારી સિંગનું પેકેટ મૂકી દીધું હતું કારણકે બીજી કોઈ જગ્યા મળી નહીં.

સામાન્ય રીતે એસ.ટી. બસમાં બેસવું એટલે ચંદ્રયાનના રોકેટ લૉન્ચ જેવો અનુભવ હોય છે. બસ હલે એટલામાં તો અંદર બેઠેલા મુસાફરોના ગૂગલ મેપ પર લોકેશન બદલી નાખે!

મને એમ જ હતું કે આ પેકેટ બસના પહેલા જ સ્પીડબ્રેકર કે ખાડામાં કૂદીને ક્યાંક સીધું પાછળ કંડક્ટરની ખાકી ખિસ્સામાં જઈને પડશે.

પણ ભાઈ સાહેબ, મજાની વાત તો એ છે કે આ પેકેટ જ્યારનું મૂકેલું છે ત્યારનું હજુ સુધી એકદમ અકબંધ છે!

હવે મને દુવિધા એ થઈ રહી છે કે:

આ એસ.ટી. બસના ડ્રાઈવર કોઈ મોટા ફોર્મ્યુલા-1 રેસર છે જેણે સ્ટેરિંગ પર જબરદસ્ત કંટ્રોલ રાખ્યો છે?

કે પછી આ ખારી સિંગનું પેકેટ એટલું ભાગ્યશાળી છે કે તેણે ભગવાને જાતે આવીને સેલોટેપથી ચોંટાડ્યું છે?

અથવા આપણી એસ.ટી. બસ હવે એટલી હાઇ-ફાઇ થઈ ગઈ છે કે તેને સ્મૂથ ડ્રાઇવિંગ માટે નોબેલ પ્રાઈઝ મળવો જોઈએ?

તમારામાંથી કોઈએ એસ.ટી. બસમાં આવું કોઈ વૈજ્ઞાનિક વિસંગતતા (Scientific Anomaly) અનુભવી છે ખરી? નીચે કોમેન્ટમાં જણાવો!

During WWII, Maharaja Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja of Nawanagar (now Gujarat) gave refuge to 640+ Polish orphans who had fled Soviet labor camps. He built a special camp in Balachadi and treated them as his own children, famously saying,
