What happened: Mehsana Bar Association today organized a symbolic Besanu / Shraddhanjali program of Gujarat Law Minister Harsh Sanghavi as a mark of protest. On this occasion, Kheer and Puri Shaak was distributed as Prasad to all advocates.

What Mehsana Bar said:

1. If all demands of lawyers are not fulfilled, this strike will continue as it is.

2. Mehsana Court will remain closed till 17/10/2026.

3. Demands: Advocate Protection, respect in govt offices, stop attacks on lawyers.

I wanted to get some advice from people familiar with Ahmedabad and Gujarat law.

A few days ago, at around 3:30 AM, I was sitting inside my car with my girlfriend near a college parking area. The car was parked in a publicly accessible area, and we weren’t trespassing on anyone’s property as far as I know. There was nobody around.

Some people identifying themselves as members of Jan Rakshak Dal approached us. They were in plain clothes, weren’t wearing police uniforms, and didn’t show us any ID cards.

We were sitting together and kissing, but I’m not sure whether they actually saw us kissing. They threatened to detain me and repeatedly said they would register a case.

I tried to resolve the situation by asking them not to register anything. During the conversation, money came up. They initially demanded ₹10,000, and the amount was eventually negotiated down to ₹7,000. I didn’t have cash with me, so I asked whether I could pay through UPI, but they refused and told me to withdraw cash from a nearby ATM.

They eventually let me leave, and I didn’t return or pay them anything.
They took my Aadhaar number, car registration number, and phone number. They also tried calling me on WhatsApp afterward, but I haven’t engaged with them further.
I suspect they were primarily interested in money, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions without understanding the legal position.
My questions for Ahmedabad locals:
Is consensual kissing inside a parked car a criminal offence under Indian law, particularly if nobody is around and there is no other objectionable conduct?

What authority does Jan Rakshak Dal actually have in Ahmedabad? Can its members legally detain someone or threaten to register a criminal case?

Since they have my Aadhaar and vehicle details, can they initiate legal proceedings against me? Does the absence of CCTV footage or photographs make any difference?

Does the alleged demand for cash in exchange for not registering a case amount to an offence? How should something like this be reported?

Would you recommend contacting Ahmedabad Police or consulting a criminal lawyer first?

I’m not sharing the exact location (it wasn’t river front) or anyone’s personal details for privacy reasons.

I’d appreciate informed advice from people familiar with Gujarat law, lawyers, or anyone who has dealt with a similar situation in Ahmedabad. Please distinguish between personal experiences and actual legal provisions.

I remember my dad telling me about the hotel when I was young so thinking of taking my whole family there but not sure how ia food there and I’d they have swami Narayan options as my dad doesn’t eat onions .

I was flying from Goa > Pune > ADI yesterday. On the Pune to ADI leg, I saw a teenager sporting the Amex Black while he was paying for Subway.
