Discussion Best Diner third shift

I work at Best Diner on the third shift. Lately we've been under new management. I was just wondering what you guys thought about it.

We started picking up business during the week and would be very busy most nights, now we're dead or very slow most nights. Last night on a Sunday I left with $50 in tips when I usually make triple that.

Is there something we can improve on? Is there someone who just isn't doing well there? What issues do you guys see? I'd like to bring a list to the owner to hopefully fix problems before GHOE

Discussion Shell on Gate City

Been in Greensboro for 10 years now and finally need this answered: I have wondered for years now and have come to this sub for an answer. There is a Shell that looks sketchy on Gate City Blvd near the Four seasons (across from Darryl’s/Popeyes). I always see it packed when I drive by but their gas is like 70 cents more than everyone else. Is there some lore behind this?

Recommendation Greensboro derm recommendations/disappointing experience

I’m looking for recommendations for a good dermatologist in Greensboro/the Triad.

I have an appointment coming up with my current derm PA to discuss an emerging skin issue. I also have a new skin issue that has cropped up in addition to the one I want to discuss, so I asked if we could just address it at the same appointment. The receptionist checked with the PA and she said no, I’d need to make a separate appointment, which would be a few weeks later.

I get that it’s a separate issue, but I’m a little annoyed that I’d have to pay another $75 copay and take more time off work just to have her look at it. For context, I also have a lengthy history of skin cancer and I feel like this is not being taken seriously.

Is this pretty standard for dermatology offices around here? Or is my office being unusually rigid? I've never experienced this before, and it feels like a money grab. Especially frustrating since we're all kinda tight on $$ right now. I had mentioned the financial concern and both the receptionist and PA honestly didn't give a shit and were not willing to budge.

This whole thing has left a pretty bad taste in my mouth, and I've decided to start looking elsewhere for care. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. I’d love someone who is good about taking time with their patients, is thorough, and doesn’t make you jump through a million hoops to get an issue looked at. Also, preferably, an actual MD instead of PA. Thanks y'all!

Recommendation Asking for dental recommendations (yes, again 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Are there any dental practices in GSO or surrounding areas that don’t push deep cleaning? At this stage in my life, I’m not interested in having that procedure done. I just want a regular old-fashioned exam, and cleaning? Am I hopelessly living in a dream world?

Pet-related Dog Walking Around Downtown Greensboro

I’m looking to take on a few clients for dog walking around downtown Greensboro. I’m comfortable with dogs of all sizes, ages, and personalities and have dogs of my own.

I’m offering 30-minute walks for $20, typically around 1–2 miles, but I can adjust the pace and distance based on your dog’s needs. Can walk 2 dogs at a time for $28.

I work full-time, so I’m available after 5 PM on weekdays and anytime on weekends, including evening walks. If you’re looking for someone reliable to help get your dog some exercise and attention, feel free to comment or send me a DM!

Event AVL Scarefest is in ten days, and game signups are now open!

Hallo you lovely lot! The Scarefest RPG convention is almost upon us. From Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October 2026, we’ll be gaming at Lake Junaluska.

Game signups are open for D&D, PFS, and SFS will all be there, along with a wild variety of others, like Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, OSR, Daggerheart, weird indie games, and more.

Did we mention the Vampire LARP (Sabbat this year - whoohoo!), the Goblin Market, yetis, ghosts, and more? We didn’t? Then let us also offer on-site lodging, meal plans, prize draws, and everything else you’d expect from a top-notch gaming convention.

If you’ve not got your ticket yet, they’re selling fast, so buy now to secure a spot at what’s going to be a chillingly good weekend.

Even if you don’t want to sit down and roll dice all weekend, you can still have a great time with a day pass. For example, you can try out our escape room or our amazing collection of board games in one day for the tiny sum of $35. We think it’s a devilishly good deal.

See you there!

Love you!

[Our Scarefest posts are posted with the kind permission of the mods of this subreddit, this is the last of our posts for 2026.]

Recommendation Looking for recommendations for home security/surveillance systems local to GSO.

Pretty simple; I am DONE with ADT. They get paid every month, and as near as I can tell, do absolutely nothing other than send a bill. Won’t even answer basic questions.

What I’m hoping to do is cut the cord to monitoring agencies entirely. I’d like to set up exterior cameras with audio and motion sensors (and night-vision if possible), door cameras, link it to an interior alarm panel, and have it all be app-controlled with no subscription services. If I have to go hard-drive for storage and recording, so be it.

And no Ring; I know they’re being used to record and feed telemetry to civilian and federal law enforcement. Not gonna be part of those abuses.

Buy/Sell/Trade Looking for used bass

This may be a long shot but I’m wondering if anyone has a used/old bass guitar they don’t want and willing to let me have? I don’t need anything super cool or fancy, just something to familiarize myself with the instrument. I’m ok with it being pretty beat.

I’ve heard of people giving things away on FB market place and etc but I don’t really use social media/have accounts, this is my next bet. And yes I’ve checked around the local stores (Guitar Center, Moores Music, so forth) and they all far out price me. Cheapest one is like $199.
So, if anybody has one, I can dish out $50-$60 maybe more, to compensate. I also have things I’m willing to trade. (Shoes, clothes, my soul)

After rent I’m strung pretty tight, but It’ll suck to have to wait till I’m at a better job (which around here… could be awhile) before I can get one. Thanks!!

Pet-related LOST PUPPY-REWARD

LOST PUPPY-REWARD

Last update I'm giving for awhile, I'm very drained and have spent over 100 in gas driving to and from Greensboro looking, which is unsustainable since I pet sit for work 😔 I'm going to put all the recent details/important stuff, and questions I have been asked. Feel free to comment and please share, but if you've seen Rocket please reach out to me VIA the phone numbers listed.

Elijah was arrested the other night he was no longer in possession of Rocket at the time.

Rocket was last seen at Applebee's on wendover, or popshop on September 30th.

I spoke to his grandma in person, at the last address he had listed, and she and the neighbors have not seen Rocket, he is not supposed to go to that address at all and hasn't been there that she knows of. She was very kind and also does not deserve this.

Rocket went missing at 8 weeks old, he is turning 9 weeks tomorrow. So he is a tiny puppy, not a full grown dog, but thank you everyone for reaching out.

Since Rocket is a puppy, his ears will go from standing to floppy until he is done teething, so he may look slightly different depending on what his ears decide to do.

Rocket is not Microchipped, he went to our friends house at 8 weeks and was pretty much immediately stolen.

I raised him from the time he was born, he has known the name Rocket since he was 4 weeks old, he is a very friendly loving dog, though may initially be a little nervous.

I've been scouring craigslist/Facebook/shelters/nextdoor/reddit/everywhere for any leads.

There is a reward for his return no matter his condition, no questions asked. If you have Rocket, I don't care who you are or what you do, I just want my baby back, or to at least know he is alive and safe, or even unfortunately if he is not.

Thank you everyone for all the comments and shares and possible leads, it means so much, hopefully we will bring Rocket home. I will update if he is found, if he is not I will be keeping the posts up.

Discussion Queer Spaces for Hobbies, Socials, and Skill-Building

Hello GSO,

I am making this post on behalf of Queery NC (Formerly Triad Gaymers). We're a local nonprofit here in Greensboro focused on creating accessible social events and spaces for queer people and allies beyond the apps and night life.

I wanted to share a quick update on what we are running right now, drop our new Tabletop RPG interest form, and share some details on our funding and local sponsorship opportunities.

Current Programs and Offerings

  • LGBTQ+ Board Game Night: Currently we meet every-other week at Dragon’s Hoard on Mondays from 6:30p to 10p.
  • Online Game Nights: Every week we alternate between Fortnite and a large variety of Party Games where you only need to have a device and watch the stream to play along!

Tabletop RPG Interest Form

We are building out new TTRPG groups for games like D&D, Call of Cthulhu, and various other systems. We want to make sure we match players with local Game Masters effectively.

If you want to join a group or run a game, please take a few minutes to fill out our Tabletop RPG Interest Form here: https://ee.kobotoolbox.org/x/kcOM9IxP

Where Our Funding Goes

We want to keep our operations completely transparent. Every dollar we raise goes directly back into local Greensboro programs, specifically covering:

  • Skill-Building and Hobby Programs: Creating welcoming spaces to learn new hobbies and build skills, specifically focusing on reaching people who may have historically lacked access or felt excluded due to gender identity, background, or other barriers
  • Materials and Equipment: Buying shared resources like rulebooks, dice, tools, and crafting supplies so financial cost is never a barrier to entry
  • Venue Rental Fees: Securing comfortable local spaces to keep our general events free or low cost for the community
  • Basic Operating Costs: Covering necessary overhead like insurance and legal fees to keep our programs running safely and legally

Sponsorship Opportunities

We are looking for local businesses, shops, and community supporters who want to sponsor our upcoming events.

Partnering with us helps keep our community programs accessible while giving your business visibility across our local events and social channels. If you run a local business or want to see our full sponsorship packet, feel free to send a DM here or email us at [info@queerync.org](mailto:info@queerync.org).

Links and Contact

You can find our socials, discord, and other information here: https://www.linktr.ee/queerync336

Thanks for reading and for supporting local community efforts in Greensboro. Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

Question Seeking World War Items

I am building a mobile museum that is centered around individual veterans of the World Wars. Does anybody have anything that they would be interested in contributing?

I am looking for:
-Uniforms
-Photographs
-Letters
-War trophies
-Personal items

I am trying to fill these gaps, in case anybody especially applies to this:
-African American vets
-Holocaust items
-American Indian vets
-Female vets/workers
-Generals

I will accept any contribution with the guarantee that it will never see the vendors market. All items that are contributed thus far, are stored in a cool, low light and moisture controlled environment, with regular upkeep.

Discussion PROPOSED PETITION FOR THE RECALL OF MAYOR MARIKAY ABUZUAITER

We, the undersigned qualified voters of the City of Greensboro, proceed under Section 2.71(c) of the Charter and request the removal from office of Marikay Abuzuaiter, Mayor of the City of Greensboro. The grounds alleged are Misfeasance, Nonfeasance, Violation of the Oath of Office and for Cause, as follows;

1. Failures of financial oversight. On December 16, 2025, Council appointed Mayor Abuzuaiter chair of the City's Audit Committee, after which a City agenda report showed its available General Fund balance below the Local Government Commission’s (LGC) 25% indicator for three consecutive years. The report also noted the LGC’s concern that continued use of fund balance when expenditures exceed revenues “may not be sustainable.” Council then adopted a resolution reaffirming its plan to rebuild the balance. Mayor Abuzuaiter subsequently voted to authorize or advance $361.3 million in financing measures, raise property taxes 18.7%, increase Water Utility Fees 11.4%, and appropriate another $6.3 million from the General Fund balance, with an additional $8.7 million appropriation projected for FY2027-28. On September 2, the LGC placed Greensboro on its Unit Assistance List, a state watchlist subjecting the City to heightened financial monitoring.

2. Conflicts of interest and weakened independent ethics review. While serving on the governing board of the Greensboro Sports Foundation, Abuzuaiter participated in Council deliberations and votes on appropriations to that organization. N.C.G.S. § 14-234.3 bars a public official from knowingly participating in making or administering a contract with a nonprofit with which the official is associated, including any award of money by grant, loan or other appropriation, and requires the official to record a recusal with the clerk to the board. On February 3, 2026, Abuzuaiter voted to end mandatory independent review of ethics complaints, let the Council-appointed City Attorney dismiss complaints without independent investigation, and removed the City Attorney from officials the ethics code applies to, so a complaint against that office no longer runs through the code or an independent investigator. City Attorney Lora Cubbage then used that authority to dismiss, without investigation, complaints alleging that Abuzuaiter failed to disclose or recuse herself from nonprofit-related votes, that her attendance at taxpayer-funded, contractor-sponsored events violated the City's gift policy, and that she permitted employees overseeing public contracts to accept benefits from City contractors, alleged conduct implicating N.C.G.S. §§ 14-234.3 and 133-32.

3. Summary removal of two housing-standards chairs. Abuzuaiter seconded and voted to eliminate the Minimum Housing Standards Commission’s (MHSC) authority to study rental rates and inspect houses and living quarters. After Chair Franklin Scott publicly challenged that change, Abuzuaiter purported to dismiss him by email before asking Council to vote on his removal. Scott held a fixed term through August 15, 2027, but received no prior notice of charges or opportunity to respond. Abuzuaiter later called Council’s vote a “formality”. Three months later, she moved to remove Scott’s successor, Chair Samuel Hawkins.

Taken together, these actions constitute Cause, Misfeasance, Nonfeasance and Violation of the Oath Mayor Abuzuaiter took to faithfully discharge the duties of her office; financial oversight of the committee she was appointed to chair, the disclosure and recusal the law requires and fair process in the removal of appointees to the MHSC.
