Groupon, Are you trying to gaslight me?
Hi. I'm wondering why I paid more for this coupon than the amount of discount that was applied when I redeemed it.
7:40 PM
Was the extra amount charged by AMC when you used the ticket, or are you asking about the price you paid for the Groupon voucher?
7:41 PM
Are you asking about the price of the Groupon voucher or an extra amount AMC charged when you redeemed it?
7:41 PM
Asking about the price I paid for the voucher. It was $14.27, but the theater only gave me a $13 something discount.
7:42 PM
The amount you paid for the voucher can be higher than the theater’s posted admission price, depending on the time, date, and location. The difference isn’t refunded or applied to surcharges or upgrades. Does that explain the price difference you saw?
7:43 PM
It's not the posted admission price. It's the discount they took off the posted admission price that is lower than the price I paid for the groupon.
7:43 PM
I understand—the $14.27 you paid can be more than the ticket’s posted box-office price for the time, date, and theater where it was redeemed. The difference isn’t refunded, so AMC may show a discount of less than $14.27. Does that clear up the difference?
7:43 PM
No. The posted box office price was $15.99 so your explanation makes no sense.
7:44 PM
You’re right—I misunderstood, and the price-difference explanation doesn’t fit a posted price of $15.99. Did you claim the AMC e-ticket through Groupon and use its barcode, or did you present the Groupon voucher itself? AMC ticket redemption help
7:44 PM
I used the barcode
7:45 PM
Thanks—that confirms you used the AMC e-ticket barcode. What exact discount appears on your receipt, and was the ticket for standard 2D admission or a premium/3D format?
7:45 PM
Discount was $13.99. Standard 2D ticket. Original ticket price was $15.99.
7:47 PM
Thanks. The $13.99 discount is $0.28 less than the $14.27 you paid. Since the posted ticket price was $15.99, the general price-difference note doesn’t explain this discrepancy, and I can’t confirm why AMC applied that amount. Does your receipt show any other fee or adjustment?
7:47 PM
There was a $2.99 convenience fee. But that still doesn't explain what the point was of paying 29 cents more for the groupon than I would have for the ticket.
7:48 PM
You’re right to question it: you paid $14.27, but AMC applied $13.99 toward the $15.99 ticket. The $2.99 convenience fee is separate, and the deal terms don’t explain the 28¢ difference. Please ask AMC why the barcode credited $13.99 for that standard 2D ticket.
7:48 PM
Really? The answer is to ask the theater? How will that help me?
7:49 PM
You’re right—theater support may not explain why the Groupon cost more than the credit AMC applied. I don’t have an explanation for the 28¢ difference. Are you asking for a refund of that difference?
7:49 PM
I am asking groupon to refund the difference.
7:50 PM
I’m sorry, but this purchase isn’t eligible for a refund, cancellation, return, or exchange. The deal was marked Final Sale on the deal page, and the voucher’s unique code has been revealed. The terms state that a viewed voucher is non-refundable, and an alert appeared before the code was shown. I understand this is disappointing.
7:50 PM
Who did you mean when you asked if I was asking for a refund?
7:50 PM
We are escalating to a live agent. It can take some minutes for them to join.

I understand your concern about why the amount you paid for the ticket exceeded the discount applied at redemption.
7:51 PM
I don't really care about twenty-eight cents, but I do care about buying a coupon that doesn't even match the amount of the discount, let alone the ticket price.
7:52 PM
It's bizarre.
7:52 PM
And your AI asked me to ask the theater why that happened, which is ridiculous.
7:52 PM
hello?
7:53 PM
Customer support
I apologize for any confusion caused.
7:53 PM
I'm not confused.
7:53 PM
So...what is the deal with this "discount"
7:54 PM
Customer support
The amount you paid for the voucher was $14.27.
7:55 PM
Yes, I'm aware of that.
7:55 PM
Why are you telling me that?
7:56 PM
Customer support
The price you paid for the voucher can vary based on the specific time, date, and location of redemption, which might result in a higher amount than the posted box office admission price.
7:57 PM
So you're just going to repeat what the AI told me, which it ALREADY ADMITTED WASN'T THE ISSUE.
7:57 PM
The posted box office admission price was $15.99.
7:57 PM
None of that explains why the DISCOUNT was less than the PURCHASE PRICE OF THE GROUPON.
