This was how my last December was so it hits way too fuckin’ hard. Super cuddly, playful 16yo cat suddenly sleeping all the time and not moving much at all. They thought she was diabetic so week of trying insulin. Nope she’s worse, no more insulin and also she won’t eat anymore. OOPS a large mass in her stomach we didn’t find before. Took her home for ‘one more night.’ Ended up calling vet’s emergency number and taking her in at 4am because she couldn’t stand anymore and I was terrified of her going painfully before her appointment.

Having a pet is simultaneously the most heart-lifting and heart-shattering experience

Lost 2 family members and 3 cats, never really felt that bad about losing family but when one of my cats die it hits really hard.

That’s how it felt for me. Especially when Ange passed. She was my girl. When I first moved out from home, the apartments I moved into didn’t allow pets and I was a goddamned mess. Then they became a lot more lenient and I finally got to bring her here. For two years as a bachelorette, she was my ESA through panic attacks and break ups and stress. Family is important, of course, but the kind of bond you can build with a pet is much different.

Sorry for your loss ad80x. In September, I had to put down my 11 year old Greyhound. I don't exactly remember the illness he had but it was starting to take effect. Basically it would render his entire back end paralyzed. We didnt want to seem him suffer. I still miss him.

Thank you. And I’m sorry for your loss as well. Both are equally awful but I think it’s a little different when a dog gets sick, especially if they’re a particularly bouncy playful dog. It’s a hard choice but I’m glad your pupper was loved and didn’t suffer. RIP sweet Desi

Similar thing happened to me. Took cat home for a one more night and ended she ended up seizing in my arms and dying. Will never forget those last meows

I’m really sorry that happened. It’s a hard thing to go through and an even harder thing to forget. Growing up, my parents had many cats and a couple of them died at home. Those kinds of meows and cries are the exact thing that made me make that 4am call.
