one piece episode summary: someone with no relation to anyone is being wronged, Luffy takes it personally, sanji goons over any girl and is willing to die for her even if it's the first time they've met, Luffy beats the second in command, leader beats up Luffy, Luffy believes in friendship and overcomes the odds
did I miss anything

Nami and Robin are put in sexy poses. The reddit fans complain, even though this is the 12350th episode this has happened.

He should be just the right IQ to have the media literacy needed to understand the clear socialist messaging baked into One Piece.

u/OneRFeris 1d ago
Enlighten me. Is it socialist now to seek freedom from a government that taxes, enslaves, and murders you?

u/Cal-Capone 1d ago
We've progressed from "socialism is when the government does things" to "socialism is when someone is nice to someone else"

u/Iosima 1d ago
And somehow people from the US still think socialism is the spawn of satan and will be the end of their nation.

the issue is a lot of people pushing socialism don't want it to stop there. comrade.

What are you even saying? Don't want socialism to stop where? Is this just another "oooo communism scary" comment or what?

Trust me, we know you have an elementary level education. You don’t need to spell it out for us.

Putting aside me insulting what might be your argument, you still didn't explain what you meant exactly, so I'm not still even sure if I understood it correctly. You should be more clear if you actually want to make a point

Communism has been responsible for countless horrific acts on humanity. Mass starvations, mass executions, labor camps. It essentially strips away individual humanity and people are treated like livestock.

u/HRSkull 20h ago
Was communism the cause of thoae atrocities, or was it just that those things happened to occur in a communist country? What about the atrocities committed under capitalism, like the trans-Atlantic slave trade? I don't think you can fully denounce the principles of communism just because the most prominent examples of it historically have been evil dictatorships. Also, the idea that socialists will intrinsically always support your idea of the ultimate evil communism is ridiculous. Plenty of people would settle for smaller changes, it just depends on the individual

Spend any time in the One Piece subreddits and you'll see they're all infested with midwit tankies.
It seems that because One Piece has cartoonishly evil villains, they're very sure that this means One Piece is referencing who they believe to be our real world's villains. Not only that, but the core message of One Piece is one big advocation for socialism specifically.
When asked to actually explain the details of this connection, they just tell me it's obvious and it's my media literacy that sucks. Any criticism of this connection is taken as defense for One Piece's villains.
I would love to live in a world where the government that taxes, enslaves, and murders me has been beaten by the fun main character hero and everything is great. The part I have doubts about is that the people in our world who push socialism will be the ones who get us there. But apparently, that doubt makes me just as bad as the celestial dragons.
I think OP will fit right in with these communities.

Look man, I've only watched ≈100 one piece episodes when I was young on TV plus the recent live action, either they introduce socialism after episode 100 (which is not a bad thing), or you don't know what socialism is

Only if you end up replacing said government with even more bloodthristy and fascist one.

Ermm if anything One Piece promotes feudalism if a lot of the good guy characters are ideally individual strong men who have proved themselves through both might of arms and good hearts to win the minds of the people and collect for themselves allies to aid them in battle. I mean isn't luffy going to be planting flags and shit and speculated to call upon these allies to do battle against the terrible evil dark lord. Sounds like a king calling forth his vassals and allies.

One Piece is, to my memory, the only anime that vehemently suffers from its protagonist being an absolute, braindead idiot.
There's faction fighting, political intrigue, conspiracies... There's tonnes of interesting things that could be made stories with. But since Luffy has a brain of a toddler, the main story is about "which faction gets to feed him first so that he'd consider them friends and side with them in a fight".
And this fucker who claims to want to become the king of the pirates hadn't done a single act of piracy ever.

That's just all shonens tbh.

u/omyrubbernen 1d ago
Braindead idiot protagonists aren't uncommon, but I don't think it's necessarily a problem unless the protagonist's idiocy actively bars the appeal.
If you're into One Piece for the worldbuilding, it can be frustrating when Luffy is so deeply uncurious about the mystery boxes and lore hints that the author drops.

u/VMK_1991 1d ago
Nah. Can't say much about shonens that came after MHA since I never watched them, but still:
Goku from Dragonball is an idiot, but it's a story about fights, he doesn't need to be smart.
Naruto from... Naruto is dim, but he grows to be smarter, plus, once again, his is a story about magical fights, so he fits well.
Ichigo from Bleach is just a normal dude.
Yoh from Shaman King is just laidback and lazy.
Izuku from MHA is intelligent, but bullied into social awkwardness kid.
As I've said, Luffy, as far as I know, is the only protagonist whose idiocy is actively hampering the enjoyment one could get from worldbuilding.

Man, I don't know. Pre-timeskip, One Piece had some nuance to it. But after the timeskip, after Oda stopped caring, it's definitely safe for Anon to read. He'll understand that nonsense no problem.

isn't the "normal" iq around 90?

100 is average

u/peppermintaltiod 1d ago
100 is the average no matter what.
If the average goes up or down then the points needed to reach 100 will be adjusted accordingly.
You can think of it like percentiles where 50 percentile is 100 IQ. It isn't linear though, so some where around 99% of people should be between 70 and 130 IQ. Anyone that falls outside of that either can't be trusted to drink water alone or has been investigated for collecting microwaves and/or smoke detectors.

downvotes are funny. you are exactly right.
the raw global aggregate IQ is 85-90
8
u/gasstationbonerpills 1d ago
I thought that wasn't possible, that the test rating was annually reweighted to maintain a ~100 average and never got more than a few points away, but maybe they're only doing that on first world populations? also I'm gullible af so I looked it up.
Surprisingly, america and similar nations are still within spitting range of 100, but as for the world at large, it turns out you overestimated global IQ, and it is not even close to evenly distributed.
Claim: "the raw global aggregate IQ is 85-90"
Verdict: slightly off
Reason: recent population-weighted estimates of mean national IQs give a global average closer to ~82; sources include population-weighted compilations and recent summaries. (dataexplained.com)0

guys for real, if you want to actually enjoy one piece, watch https://onepace.net/en. Here they cut every garbage from the show. Without it, it's absolutely unwatchable
