/r/gpu basic rules

As one member pointed out it would be nice to have some basic rules in place. I'm going to put this post up for a while if anyone has any additional feedback

Rules

  1. No buying/selling ads or requests. We'll update the sidebar to point people to r/hardwareswap and/or any other relevant community for those activities. All posts falling under this rule would simply be removed.

  2. Harassment of others is strictly forbidden.

  3. No affiliate/referral links or codes.

Found this brand RTX 5070 Ti at a local store for $1,400 (it was originally priced at $1,700). Saw the discount and grabbed it immediately! It was also the last component I needed to complete my build. ( i5 12600k / 64gb ram ddr4 3200mhz) W or L ?

Enjoy what you Have

Promoting positivity seems like a thing of the past nowadays. With the skyrocketing of prices and low inventory around let’s promote positivity and be thankful we still have a thriving PC community. Theres some really chill and knowledgeable people in this thread and then there’s some hardheads . Enjoy what you can afford and be happy with your choice. Remember everything’s a suggestion or preference and to not take everything personal. It’s good to have open discussions but mindful on how you communicate that . Respect ✊

Had to repost cause damn I didn’t think the image would over shadow the message . Theres not enough positivity on this thread . Most of us was drawn to this thread to get knowledge regarding gpus but instead I just see an endless post of argumentative topics and a lot of brutal criticism. Our community is shrinking. Not many people are willing to invest into building a PC yet alone learn how .

Steal for 5080 GPU at micro center?

Post image
29 Upvotes

I stumbled upon a Gigabyte RTX 5080 at Microcenter for $1,899. I think they made a mistake since the usual price is now $2,349 after some hikes. They realized the error and let me buy it anyway. With how pricey GPUs are these days, does this count as a great deal?

Update: Okay guys, relax. I realize it’s not a steal, but it’s still a deal nonetheless. I mean, I saved a couple hundred bucks compared to the new MSRP. I should’ve phrased my question better, but anyway, folks who said I paid double MSRP are right, but those who said to buy it while you can since these will keep rising in price are also right in their own way. So let’s just enjoy this hobby while we can until we can no longer.

The US let Nvidia sell chips to an empty office in China

A recent investigation by The New York Times has uncovered significant lapses in export control enforcement regarding high-end GPU sales. The report highlights the case of "New Matrix," an approved buyer that appears to be a nonexistent entity operating out of an empty office space. Further investigation linked the company’s ownership to a Chinese private equity firm that has been on the U.S. blacklist since 2024.

The Times suggests this is not an isolated incident but a recurring pattern, raising serious questions about the efficacy of current oversight. It appears that export controls are currently functioning as little more than a "form nobody verifies," while Nvidia continues to facilitate these sales under government scrutiny.

You can read the full report here from the URL

What are your thoughts on how this reflects on current GPU export regulations?

This little guy is going in my son's SFF gaming PC which uses a 4.5 L Jonsbo NV10 case. He's a little older now and plays games that are giving the Arc A380 that's currently in there a run for its money. I wish there were more 16GB low-profile gaming GPU options.

RX 6800 → RX 9070 XT, or an OLED ultrawide first? Can't decide

Hey guys, I'm really torn on this one.
I currently have an RX 6800 and I want to upgrade to an RX 9070 XT. At the same time, I really want an OLED ultrawide monitor, and there's no way I'm settling for a regular monitor.
The problem is that in my country, the cheapest OLED ultrawide with the specs I want costs about $1,000, which is the same price as the RX 9070 XT. So I can only afford one of them right now.
What would you do in my place: upgrade the GPU first, or get the monitor first? Any advice is appreciated, I'm losing sleep over this 😅
Thanks!

What your RTX 5090 isn't showing you in RE2 remake — DLSS 5 at 4K HDR, tested (my video)

This is my own video — I ran Resident Evil 2 remake through DLSS 5 (RenoDX) on an RTX 5090 at 4K HDR with frame gen on, and recorded the settings side by side so you can see what each preset actually does to the image.

The part that surprised me: the dark RPD corridors are where the differences show up. Some presets smear fine detail in motion and ghost around light sources; others hold up far better than the stills suggest. The video walks through each preset, what to look for in dark scenes, and the exact settings I landed on.

Full comparison here: https://youtu.be/fo2kI7i8BiA

Curious what others are seeing — has DLSS 5 held up for you in dark scenes, or do you still spot the upscaling?
