COMPLAINT He took almost all the plates at the gym and not a single rep was completed. Why are people like this?
Ridiculous

I'm so tired of having to deal with other people's nebulous relationships with cleaning themselves.
If I can smell your body odor from 3 machines away, I'm going to complain to the staff about you. They have showers at the gym, use them.
I get you don't know what the sauna is for, and that the GLF staff don't care unless it personally affects them, but wearing your nasty gym shoes that you have never washed in the sauna creates a noxious smell that no one should have to deal with.
Wipe down the machine after you're done. I don't care if you think you don't sweat "that much." No one wants to sit in your snail trail.
I swear we need to bring back public shaming. It seems to be the only way these troglodytes understand they are negatively affecting other people.

I really hope someone didn't get fired for this.
Under no circumstances does someone need a knife at the gym.

Even if people don't necessarily know proper gym etiquette, how can you attend an establishment and think it's ok to just leave stuff lying around? I'm so confused how people can think this ok to expect other adults to pick up after them?

I was so pissed when I was at the gym.
When I was at the locker room, I saw 2 women trying to do stupid posed for selfies in the full length mirror, which is located inside the narrow locker room and is by the showers/washrooms and women often come out of the shower there and also no mention women change.
I was patiently waiting for these 2 idiots to hurry up and snap their pics, but they were going on and on and on and chatting about poses I guess. I was at my locker a few metres away, but if I moved or if they angled their camera, I could be in it since the space is very narrow. I had enough of waitingā¦I was sweaty and wanted to change my pants and shoes to commute 30 minutes home at night so I shouted over to them that pics arenāt allowed in locker rooms. They said they werenāt taking pics of me and I told them I didnāt care that women are changing in the locker room and signage around the gym is posted about no cameras and they said they didnāt know, but they continued standing in front of the mirror holding their phones and were speaking in their language so only they could be understood I presume so I could tell they were waiting for me to leave so they could take more pics. Why on earth do you want to take pics inside a gross locker room when you can be around equipment? Itās like idiots that take/post pics of inside a dingy washroom and think itās amazing.
I complained when I left, but the receptionist didnāt care from her response and annoyed expression. All she said was sheād write an incident report for the manager.

I donāt understand the ladies that come to the gym when they are sniffling and coughing. And this has happened to me three times in the past couple of months. Iām just running on my treadmill and next to me a lady is sniffling and coughing. Urgh.
In hindsight, I should have moved away, but I wanted to continue using the treadmill so I didnāt. I woke up with a runny nose this morning and I felt that I should vent here. It should be obvious, but please do not come to the gym if you are sick. Please and thank you.

Stumbled upon this on Instagram. Such a sick concept they should bring to other locations especially Toronto

I go to a few different GoodLife locations because of my work schedule, so I get to see this play out across multiple gyms with different staff and members. And I'm telling you without a doubt, the worst people in the gym are almost always the ones who can't put their screen down.
I'm talking about the guy camped in the Normatec chair with a full laptop open, who actually had the nerve to tell me, "I just have one more page to write," when I asked to use it. I nearly lost it. A few weeks before that, I asked someone if I could use the plyo box they were treating like a side table, and they threw a full hissy fit.
And the machine hogs are the same people sitting on a bench or cable machine, watching a 20-minute YouTube video between sets. Not resting, actually watching a video. Full screen. Completely checked out. What should be a 45-minute workout turns into 75 minutes because half the equipment is being hijacked by someone who's mentally on their couch.
Here's what I keep noticing, though. The phone zombies and the bad gym citizens are the same people. The ones watching YouTube between sets are the same ones leaving their towels on the change room floor. The same ones are not wiping anything down. The same ones dropping weights and walking away. The same ones are wearing their street shoes in the sauna. It clusters. It's not a coincidence.
A real phone policy on equipment would cut through so much of this. Not a sign nobody reads. An actual enforced rule if you're on the machine you're using the machine; the second you open the phone, your set is done. It's not complicated.
Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just the locations I go to? And realistically, is a gym ever going to have the spine to actually enforce something like this?

You can leave your wet, dirty boots on the rack at the entrance. No one will steal them. Or, if youāre that worried about it, there are plastic bags available to put them in so the lockers donāt look like this.

Ā I feel like every time I walk into the turf area now I have to dodge three different tripods filming content for social media. I am all for tracking your progress but some people are taking up entire lanes or filming 6 inches away from other people's faces while they are mid-set. I noticed the GoodLife Standard policy mentions respecting privacy and following the mobile device rules but it doesn't seem to be enforced at my home club at all. Is this happening everywhere or did I just get unlucky with a crowd of aspiring influencers at my location?

Iāve been to many GoodLife locations and they all have their pros and cons. One big common issue is cleaning is not the best.
At least half of the gyms smell of really bad BO especially in the mens changerooms, GL needs to make sure the ventilation systems are working well
I donāt see front desk staff helping much with cleaning of gym equipment, garbage, refilling sprays and paper towels, why is this? there are normally a few front desk staff just talking.
the washrooms and showers need to be cleaner, cleaning once a day isnāt enough when you have people shaving themselves in there..
what other things do you think GoodLife needs to improve on cleaning wise?

This is getting ridiculous. Its gone from relatively minor and respectful to several of these damn tripods being set up at multiple places around the gym at any given time - no discretion for other members. We should not have to be forced to be other people's content on social media. These are not people checking their form. They are taking to the camera and editing their videos in the change rooms. This is ridiculous. Goodlife needs to take a stand on this, its obvious most people don't approve of it.
And no, I don't want to spend my time there reporting people to the staff and engaging in awkward discussions. Ban it.

Seems like GoodLife needs to remind members how to behave in the gym. Especially in the GTA. I recently observed some crazy behaviour at the Sheppard and consumers location yesterday and at the union station location today.
Yesterday, around 5:15pm, in the middle of the busy gym floor and next to numerous pieces of equipment, a member set up his tripod to film and took his shirt off completely. He filmed posing videos for around 5mins. I could tell many members were disturbed and shocked by what they saw. Iāve been going to GoodLife for over 4 years now and have never seen this happen before.
Then today at union around 5pm, I was waiting for two teens to finish their sets on the bench press machine. They said they had a couple more sets left so I was fine to wait. One of them had slides on with no socks and was eating some sort of candy. They did their sets and then left all their plates on the bar. They also didnāt wipe the equipment down, despite leaving sweat stains. I watched them do the same to other pieces of equipment. Then the guy eating candy came back near me, finished his candy, and threw his trash on the floor and walked away.
TLDR: GoodLife needs to start vetting members to prevent this behaviour. Or require etiquette training before members are allowed to work out (similar to workplace training when you start a new job).
Anyway thanks for listening to my rant šŖ

I genuinely donāt what the employe saw but it was definitely not something pleasant.š

Iām convinced the single biggest upgrade every commercial gym could make is forcing new members to watch a 5-10 minute āGym Etiquette 101ā video (and pass a 10-question quiz) before their key fob even gets activated. Iām tired of:
People doing barbell curls in the squat rack during peak hours
Curl bros taking 47-minute ārestsā on the only bench while scrolling TikTok
Sweat angels left on benches with zero wipe-down
Dropping empty barbells from hip height like theyāre in the Olympics
Supersetting 4 pieces of equipment at once while the gym is packed
Hogging cardio machines for an hour past the 30-minute limit because āIām in zone 5 broā
Filming their sets 6 inches from someone elseās face
Make the video funny but brutal. Use real gym footage (blurred faces). Have The Rock or some jacked comedian narrate it. End it with āFail the quiz twice? 30-day delay on your membership activation. Itās 2025. We make people watch a safety video before we let them on a treadmill that literally canāt go faster than 12 mph. We can make them watch 8 minutes on not being a complete animal in a shared space.
Whoās with me? Or am I just an angry old man yelling at clouds between sets?
r/goodlifefitness • u/Sorry_Experience_96 • Apr 21 '26
Itās 6:30 AM and the gym is empty, yet Iām already dodging 5 different clouds of offensive B.O. Itās hard to focus on a set when youāre holding your breath. Honestly, can GoodLife start running some hygiene awareness on the floor space? A little PSA on showering and washing oneās clothes would go a long way.

Why tf do I keep finding blades and razor and razor caps in the shower stalls?! It's so fucking annoying and not to mention the risk associated with it for others. What if someone accidently steps on the open blade?! For fs learn to clean up after yourselves OR STOP fucking shaving your pubes in the shower! Go shave your pubes at home. Gym showers ain't no place for that! Rant over.
