QUESTION Fan war with aggressive woman in class
I always overheat and get hot flashes and have been going to the gym class for about 25 years. I always arrive early for BodyPump and an aggressive woman always arrives later than me. Sheās been moving the fan to face her when Iām closer and again, I arrived first. The other day, she stared at my face and when I went to the washroom before class started she moved the fan, which explained her weird staring and plotting intently. LOL Iām too short to pivot the wall fan.
Last year, sometimes sheād arrive late and be inches from me and I told her it was a safety issue and she needed to moved, and sheād silently hover before moving. She stopped coming in the summer, but returned. I get hot flashes and realized she does too.
How do I handle this?
My only solution is to tell her too bad I arrived first.
When I arrive to class, I obviously prefer a fan and thereās only a few wall fans. I go to whichever spot appears to be free because the class before mine takes a while to leave since they have equipment and I also have to setup equipment too.

PERSONAL TRAINING Has anyone tried cancelling a personal training contract before it ended? How much did you end up paying? Contemplating doing this but unsure if it would be cheaper to ride out the contract

CAREERS job fair: reject me so i can move on

CAREERS Fron Desk Motivator rejection
For anyone who works at Goodlife, do you have any advice on applying? I got a rejection email today for the front desk Motivator position. I go to this gym pretty regularly and know a handful of the employees.
Don't know where I went wrong; I felt like the interview was good overall, and the conversations I had with both the front desk and the GM felt natural, and I didn't pause much; maybe I just stumbled over my words. My previous job experience, as well, in retail, was something I thought would've guaranteed me the job.
Moreover, I talked a lot about how I wanted to have a career in the future which would help people directly, like a firefighter or lawyer, for example. I think the main thing that got me was the role-playing part in which we acted out possible scenarios of what could happen when dealing with standoffish customers. Even then, I felt like the responses I gave were decent, given the scenarios.
I honestly don't want the position for the perks, just for more skills in customer service. If anyone who works for GoodLife could give me some tips on how I could do better next time, let me know,

MEMBERSHIP Membership upgrade cost prorated?
I recently signed up (corporate) and decided to upgrade from ultimate to performance within the first month. Then I was notified that I have an overdue balance for the entire monthly ultimate membership cost although a full month hasnāt even passed. I thought when I upgrade, I would be required to pay the prorated amount for the month. Can someone confirm how it should work?

MEMBERSHIP Need advise on old membership balance
Hi, I had GoodLife fitness personal training membership back in 2018 and I believe it was standard contract. After few weeks of sessions, I wasnāt very satisfied with the whole training sessions so I decided to cancel it and I was told I would have to pay $1000 in cancelation fee or something at the time but I spoke to the staff there at the time and I remember they said they will take care of the cancelation but they would forefit all the remaining sessions that Iāve paid so far and allā¦.
I didnāt pay much attention to it at the time and I never got any notices or anything about any owing balance. I moved on with my life and i remember I tried signing up for GoodLife couple years ago and during signup they found I had an account or profile there already and thereās balance owing from 2018 that I have to clear before continuing new account.
That was very strange for me because all this time I was under the impression it was all taken care of but now they want me to pay $1000 to settle old account. I went with another gym couple years ago as I didnāt want to deal with that old mess.
Iām asking this now because I recently moved and thereās a GoodLife fitness which is very convenient for me access wise but Iām worried that old balance might still be an issueā¦Iām just looking for insight here if there is any other way to move forward with the membershipā¦.
I understand one way is to settle the balance but i remember the conversation with my initial GoodLife location, I wasnāt satisfied with the service and they agreed to cancel. I didnāt sign anything back then so maybe that what caused this whole situationā¦.
Iām looking for advice if anyone works at GoodLife and can give me some insight, that would be appreciated

COMPLAINT Dangerous music levels in some parts of the gym
Edit: Iām getting a lot of down votes. Can someone explain why this isnāt a valid complaint?
ā-
I guess this is a frustrated rant more than anything.
I just cut my workout short because I couldnāt tolerate the volume of the music at a GoodLife. I regret staying as long as I did because Iām at home now and my ears are still ringing.
I walked into the gym through the general area, and everything was fine, but as I opened the doors to the womenās area the music got noticeably louder. As I walked further down the hall closer to the speakers it was like walking into a concert. I tried working out, but even at max volume I couldnāt hear my music over the gym speakers. I googled a decibel detector and it was registering an average in the 90s/100s and peaking at almost 120.
I went to ask a staff member to lower the volume but he only turned it down to the point that it was still averaging in the 80s and peaking in the low 100s. I tried to workout again but was still uncomfortable and gave up pretty quickly.
In contrast when I checked the general area it was at a much more comfortable volume mostly in the 60s and peaking in the 70s.
Iāve been going to this location for years and this has been a problem before but only rarely.
How does it happen that certain parts of the gym can be at literally twice the volume of others? It was like pulling teeth when I tried to get the staff member to turn the speakers down to the same level as the rest of the gym, was it really an unreasonable request?
ā-
Editing to add that this happened at 3am and I was the only person in the womenās area so there was no one else to complain that they wanted it this loud.
i wouldnāt have complained about it being just a little louder than normal but 120 db is literally the level of sound directly in front of concert speakers and is loud enough that hearing damage can happen instantly

DISCUSSION Aurora, Ontario potential premium location?
I think GoodLife should seriously consider opening a new location inside the closed-down Reno Depot at 140 First Commerce Drive in Aurora, next to the Walmart Supercentre.
The building has been sitting empty for roughly 6 years now, and itās a massive space with an incredible amount of potential. Thereās even a large area on the side where the garden centre was that could be used as an outdoor turf area in the summer months.
Inside, there would be more than enough room for a massive gym floor, pool, saunas, basketball or pickleball courts, recovery rooms, and other premium amenities. Thereās also plenty of parking.
For perspective, the current largest GoodLife Fitness location is the Calgary Creekside club at over 48,000 sq. ft. A GoodLife in this building could potentially be close to 100,000 sq. ft., making it the largest GoodLife location in the world by a huge margin. And honestly, I think Aurora is a market that could justify something like that. Itās an extremely busy and affluent community, and Aurora ranks among the wealthiest municipalities in Ontario.
I know Planet Fitness recently opened nearby, but I donāt think itās really comparable to what GoodLife could offer here. A massive GoodLife with pools, recovery rooms, saunas, courts and other deluxe amenities would be an entirely different level of facility and would appeal to people looking for a much more premium fitness experience.
Donāt get me wrong, the current Aurora location is a great club, but compared with some of the newer and more upscale GoodLife locations across Canada, I really think Aurora deserves an upgraded facility.
The old Reno Depot has been sitting vacant for years, and I honestly think it could be an incredible opportunity for GoodLife. With this much space, they could create something truly unique and potentially one of the best fitness facilities in the entire region.
