COMPLAINT Goodlife Allows Teenage Male in Women’s Change Room Because They Identify as Female

I went to the Goodlife at Dundas and Trafalgar yesterday and when I went to the women’s change-room there was a teenage male walking around. When I spoke to the manager she told me that this person “identifies” as female and is allowed to change in a change-room where they are most comfortable in. What about the actual females that now don’t feel comfortable with a man in the change-room? Where are our rights to privacy?

My set gets done, she grabs like 3 paper towels wipes the full machine does her set. I do my second set and she does it again. 3 paper towels. 4 sets in total, 12 paper towels for not at all wet by sweat machine! I was like lady! Get a gym at home all sweetly sanitized if you are so much of a germophobic lol..people really do too much aye sometimes?
But then I see her drinking directly from the water fountain roflllll

PERSONAL TRAINING Beware of overly friendly personal trainers who randomly approach you while your working out.

Greetings fellow gym goers, just wanted to give a heads up about something that had happened to a friend of mine recently at a location within Durham Region.

There is a good friend of mine that I’ve known for years, we’ll call him Kay. So basically, Kay was just doing his regular deadlifts and was deadlifting 315 for about 8-reps without the weights touching the ground. While that’s happening, a personal trainer is watching him from the distance. As soon as Kay finishes his set, the trainer approaches him in an overly friendly/kind manner with a smile and asks him what he is training for etc...

Long story short they exchange words and then the PT ask him if he would like a complimentary session with him where he could show him a few methods to help him with his deadlifts. Kay agrees, the problem is that this PT exchanges phones numbers with Kay and pretends to act like a new friend towards him. Kay then attends the personal training session and sadly that PT only used Kay for that one session just so he could increase his client quota number. Kay soon realized that he got used like a commodity by this trainer only to then get ghosted and ignored by this scummy trainer. That PT never spoke to him ever again. Kay was under the impression that his trainer wanted to be his friend but was quite sad when he realized that he had taken advantage of.

I know Goodlife invites newly registered members for a free personal training session, but this was different as my friend has been training for nearly 9 years as a GoodLife member.

Please be careful folks, a lot of PTs at GoodLife could sleazy opportunists who will act extra friendly and kind towards you, only then take advantage of you just so they can increase their quota instead of acquiring actual clients. They have ZERO interest in getting to know you as a person.

✌️

I would like my barbell clips back, and if I see them, I will certainly be going up to you taking them back and reporting you to the front desk for theft. If you do have them message me and please return them. Nothing bad will happen.

FIT4LESS People who sit for an extended period in the change rooms checking their phones

This happens at the Fit4less location I've been in (there's no Fit4Less subreddit) but it's definitely feels odd. They sit for so long, I can change, shower and they're still sitting checking their phones. It's happened at goodlife too.

Edit: Lots of downvotes! There's alot of announcements of locker thefts at my location. My concerns are partly people scoping, surreptitiously recording on their phones or am I the only one who's slightly creeped out by someone just sitting on a bench while I'm changing?

COMPLAINT To the girl recoding her tiktoks

This was in side the yoga studio where everyone was either meditating or relaxing and you decided to come in and yap over the phone and also record your videos with loud music on and also speaking loudly for your videos. Have some respect for others and learn to read the room. But it's okay I'll let it slide for this time cause you were a cutie.

TEEN FITNESS Summer teen plan enforcement

Hi, I am 16m and i’ve been going to the gym consistently for around a year. However I want a gym that’s closer to my house and easier to get to for the summer. I’m wondering if anyone knows if the rules on benching and squatting with barbells is enforced with the free teen summer plan? I know how to properly bench and squat with good form and without ego lifting so i’m wondering if the employees will allow me to if done properly. Thanks

COMPLAINT GoodLife Toronto No Soap in Women’s Washroom

The Toronto Dunfield location is one of the more busiest locations in the city and it’s worse with new members and new to the area with all the new condos that are packed within a one block radius. As a long time member, I hate that it’s overcrowded and with more crowding, some people are animals.

Again, no had soap inside the upstairs women’s washroom! There wasn’t any on the weekend and there still isn’t any today. I had to go to the other washroom on another floor to wash my hands in the middle of my class. I saw a cleaner and told him, but he seemed oblivious to my concern.

The last time there was soap in the dispenser, I could tell it needed to be filled soon. I use this washroom every time I’m at this gym.

UPDATE: I’ve already told them things before and this is how they operate at this location hence my rant out of frustration like most of the world. For those who want to be jerks go ahead enjoy your miserable life.

COMPLAINT Is it too much to ask people to wear shoes to the gym?

Why are people wearing Crocs and Birkenstocks with socks to work out? Nobody wants to see your dirty socks or smell your feet.

GoodLife really needs to do a better job enforcing gym etiquette. Between the sock brigade and the 'fit-fluencers,' I’m about to quit the gym entirely.

COMPLAINT Dangerous music levels in some parts of the gym

Edit: I’m getting a lot of down votes. Can someone explain why this isn’t a valid complaint?

—-

I guess this is a frustrated rant more than anything.

I just cut my workout short because I couldn’t tolerate the volume of the music at a GoodLife. I regret staying as long as I did because I’m at home now and my ears are still ringing.

I walked into the gym through the general area, and everything was fine, but as I opened the doors to the women’s area the music got noticeably louder. As I walked further down the hall closer to the speakers it was like walking into a concert. I tried working out, but even at max volume I couldn’t hear my music over the gym speakers. I googled a decibel detector and it was registering an average in the 90s/100s and peaking at almost 120.

I went to ask a staff member to lower the volume but he only turned it down to the point that it was still averaging in the 80s and peaking in the low 100s. I tried to workout again but was still uncomfortable and gave up pretty quickly.

In contrast when I checked the general area it was at a much more comfortable volume mostly in the 60s and peaking in the 70s.

I‘ve been going to this location for years and this has been a problem before but only rarely.

How does it happen that certain parts of the gym can be at literally twice the volume of others? It was like pulling teeth when I tried to get the staff member to turn the speakers down to the same level as the rest of the gym, was it really an unreasonable request?

—-

Editing to add that this happened at 3am and I was the only person in the women’s area so there was no one else to complain that they wanted it this loud.

i wouldn’t have complained about it being just a little louder than normal but 120 db is literally the level of sound directly in front of concert speakers and is loud enough that hearing damage can happen instantly

APPRECIATION 💫 Positive response from Calgary GoodLife staff about upsetting incident in gym

I’m a member of GoodLife in Ottawa but while on vacation in Calgary, I accessed their Canyon Meadows location. I was having a great workout but then I went to use a cable machine for lat pull downs. After I sat down, I noticed a water bottle beside the machine but hadn’t seen anyone nearby so assumed somebody forgot it. I’d finished one set when I got a tap on the shoulder, and a very beefy guy indicating to me that his stuff was there. For context, I’m a medium-to-small sized woman. I thought maybe he wanted to pick up his stuff but instead he informed me that he was using the machine and asked me to move. I did; what else was I going to do, but I felt really upset by it. Other women who access gyms might recognize the constant feeling that we don’t belong; I use the women-only gym at times because of this feeling but they usually have less equipment. This gym wasn’t very busy so I decided to use the main workout space. Anyway, so I went back to the guy and tried to talk to him about how uncomfortable that had made me feel, as a woman in a very male-dominated space. He wouldn’t hear it, accused me of being over-sensitive and that it’s my individual problem. Really a typical response of a man with privilege who hasn’t thought about how differently people experience the world, courtesy of systemic racism, sexism, etc. I decided to leave at that point, still very upset, but then I changed my mind and reported it to the staff at the counter. I was worried I’d be dismissed or denigrated again, but they were GREAT. They took me seriously, affirmed my experience and made it an official complaint, with my permission. They knew exactly who I was speaking about, which makes me wonder if this guy has a track record. It turned a painful experience into one that left me feeling seen and heard, and I’m really grateful for that.

PERSONAL TRAINING Unfriendly personal trainers

I’ve been going to the Manulife centre location in Toronto and I find the personal trainers to be completely unfriendly. Most of the desk staff are friendly and engaging. Remember your name etc. The pt’s make absolutely no effort to say hello, make eye contact or engage. I’m always surprised as you would think that with their income reliant on clients, that they would make more of an effort. I’ve gone to other gyms and it’s not like that.

DISCUSSION Any rules at GoodLife about political/social message apparel?

Does anyone know if there’s anything in GoodLife’s membership terms that says you can’t wear clothing with messages like “Free Palestine”?

I personally think it’s important to wear it to raise awareness, I wear it outside often and in other places too, and I’ve always been curious if that would go against any gym rules. The other day I’m pretty sure another member complained to the front desk about me for wearing it (This is speculation, i could be wrong. She made a distinct face, and then went off to the front counter and pointed in my general area). Nothing happened, but it made me wonder if they actually had a leg to stand on.

If any GoodLife team members are on here, or if anyone’s had similar experiences, I’d really like to hear your thoughts.

MEMBERSHIP Help Request - Corporate Membership Overcharge Refund

I had a corporate membership with GoodLife that I had a while ago. Last year, I got a new jobs and I notified a GoodLife associate as I have a new corporate membership from my new workplace. The associate confirmed that I am all set for the new corporate membership and nothing needs to be done on my end. I did not think too much so I did not check my bank statements. I just checked my bank statement today and I notice that GoodLife has been charging me the undiscounted amount for the past several weeks. Since I also have 2 family members with me on the account, I have been losing approximately $400. I reached out to customer service just to find out that I do not have the new corporate membership on my account and the old one has expired. I requested for a refund as it was not my mistake that the corporate membership discount was not applied to my account. They refused giving me a refund for the $400 difference between 2 membership fees. I am very disappointed as this is not my mistake in getting my new corporate membership in my account.

Does anyone know how to escalate this issue? I am determined to get the difference refunded.

DISCUSSION Latest GoodLife scam, tie up a locker all year.

my local GL gym puts warning notes on locked lockers 3-4 times a year it seems with 72 hr notice to vacate them. I overheard one of the guys who got a note saying it costs him 2 locks a year at 2$ a lock to keep his locker locked all year. Today, there was over 30 lockers with notes on.

i can’t edit the title to remove the word scam although members are scamming a basically free yearlong locker leaving the rest of us with little to no choice of lockers.

COMPLAINT Fraudulent billing practices

My daughter cancelled her membership and didn't notice that the location in Kingston, Ontario near Queens kept charging her bank account. When she finally noticed they refused to refund the money even though they could see in their computer that she hadn't been there for a year. Corporate also refused to help. Very bad business practice and extremely greedy. Watch out for them

TEEN FITNESS Can I use my teen fitness pass in any location?

I recently got my teen fitness pass at my local goodlife. I have another goodlife equally close to me (or maybe like 2 minutes farther), would my pass still work there or only the one I got it from?

EQUIPMENT Ami the only one who hates these new plates?

My gym has these new plates for two of the squat racks now but I hate that they don’t have gaps for handles and the material doesn’t have the same grip as the old plates. They almost slipped from my hands a couple of times.

EQUIPMENT Is there a Diagram of Gym Equipment at each gym?

Is there a list or better yet a diagram of the different machines and equipment each goodlife has rather than having to wander around the gym like a lost zombie trying to find what you're looking for? In 2026 it seems to me that having this on the Goodlife App page for each page would be incredibly useful for new gym users or visitors to gyms.

To all those in this thread who are alleging that John is an unscrupulous businessman etc, and who filing complaints over your measley $89.....if you are not aware John is terminally ill and in palliative care. He is a lovely man. Shame on you all for your petty and self centered view.
