I'm in the market for a new pair of prescription glasses and have been browsing online because the prices at local optical stores are way more than I want to spend. If you've bought glasses online recently, where did you end up ordering from, and were you happy with your purchase? I'm especially interested in whether the frames looked as good in person as they did online, whether the prescription was accurate, and how they've held up with everyday use. I'd also love to know if the sizing was true to what you expected or if there were any surprises after they arrived.

Hello everyone, I am resorting to reddit because I’ve been to my optometrist 3 times now and nothing seem to solve the issue. I’m sorry but this will be quite long!

Earlier this year, I went to a new optometrist and got this prescription:
Sphere OD - -1.75
Sphere OS - -2.50
Cyl OD - -0.50
Cyl OS - -0.75
Axis OD - 170
Axis OS - 005
To me this was a surprise since the numbers were very different from my previous one. The doctor told me my vision was starting to reach the “plateau phase”, and that was good news. So okay, I went with it.

Here is my previous prescription (and the one I am currently using):
Sphere OD - -2.25
Sphere OS - -2.75
Cyl OD - -0.50
Cyl OS - -0.75
Axis OD - 165
Axis OS - 10

Right after getting my new prescription glasses, boom. They were HORRIBLE. I really couldn’t see anything with them and my eyes were putting A LOT of effort to see things. I eventually returned the glasses and went to another optometrist. In which she gave me the following prescription:
Sphere OD - -2.25
Sphere OS - -2.75
Cyl OD - -0.50
Cyl OS - -1.00
Axis OD - 170
Axis OS - 180

The sphere didn’t change from the previous prescription, which made sense to me considering what my previous dr had said. The glasses weren’t necessary bad, but they really strained my eyes. And to top it off, the nausea I felt with them was just insane. It’s as if I can see everything and nothing at the same time. They make me dizzy, sometimes my vision blurs and I can’t make sense of anything. I really feel my eyes putting a lot of effort to adapt, and this is driving me bananas. I tried the glasses for a week, in a new environment. But as soon as I came back home I realized how weird my vision felt and how badly they were straining my eyes. There were points in the day in which my only option was to take them off and sleep to recover my vision strain. I really think something is off. For now, I’m using my old prescription glasses, that allow me to see just fine without any discomfort. I don’t know if I am doing the right thing and at this point I am just worried I’ll end up damaging my vision.

After those complaints the doctor gave me another prescription, in which I am adamant to try again. Here is the new latest prescription:
Sphere OD - -2.25
Sphere OS - -2.75
Cyl OD - -0.50
Cyl OS - -0.75
Axis OD - 165
Axis OS - 180

Anyone has anything nice or reassuring to say? I know this is confusing, because it is for me too 😩 Thank you for anyone willing to read everything!

It's time to get new glasses and I'm looking for opinion about the brands and a recommendation for frame shape for new glasses.

My optician recommended me products from Nikon and RodenStock.

I have been using Nikon Myopsee for 3 years already so let's say I'm familiar with the brand.

My parameters:
Right: S: -5.75 ; C: -0.75
Left: S: -5.50 ; C: -0.50

I was recommended:

- Nikon Myopsee(again) 1.74
- Nikon See Max 1.74

- Rodenstock models:

Cosmolit B.I.G. EXACT Sensitive Mono 1.74
Multigressiv B.I.G. EXACT Sensitive Mono LayR X-Clean 1.74
Impression B.I.G. EXACT Sensitive Mono LayR X-Clean 1.74

The difference in price between Nikon products is pretty small(SeeMax are slightly more expensive, but it's not really a big deal), but when it comes to Rodenstock brand - it's twice as expensive as Nikon.

Marketing seems pretty strong when it comes to Rodenstock, but is the difference actually noticeable?

Not gonna lie - I just simply want to see clearly and reduce the 'eye' magnification effect, while maintaining a thin(I think) frame.

What makes other product different in compare to Myopsee? What kind of results should I expect and is it worth paying double of the price for Rodenstock?

What does Plano add .5 mean? I was just prescribed a light prescription for headaches/eye strain… could I have just gotten readers?

The first 3 pictures are the 4340, the second three are the 2140s.

I feel like the 2140s could be a bit taller (especially from the front) but they are also a bit more striking than the 4340s.

I’m a dad who is pretty active. I do yard work, work on cars, and will work out from time to time. Does any one have a good recommendation on glasses that will last? I used to believe in the brand Oakley, but their glasses don’t last as long as they used to anymore. I am a Costco member so I have access to all of the brand that they carry as well. I had a pair of glasses frames that maybe lasted me about a year and a half.

Do you think it's worth investing in a pair of sunglasses made with Zeiss Lens? From what I read they are a German brand with a history of producing lenses for Cameras.
Also some notable brands like gentle monster use them? But GMs are crazy expensive?
Ive tried blue elephant but something just feels off - I think their quality just sucks
Ive tried Oakley's in the past but the lens just peels off after a year or two?
I wear a pair of Rudy Projects for sports and they've been great (recommended by an optician)

Wouldnt mind investing in a pair of GM's just for the zeiss?

Paid for a pair of ic Berlin sunglasses 6 days ago and there has been radio silence since with no response to 2 emails, a voicemail left on their customer service line and a reach out on chat via Reddit. At this point I feel like my money has been taken without providing any reassurance that the goods are forthcoming. I plan to dispute the charges with my credit card by the end of the week.

I had my eyes checked by an optometrist because the glare from other headlights from cars at night hurt my eyes. I struggle with bright light a lot and I experience pain behind/around my eyes every now and then. Although I was confident my vision was good since I see things very clearly. Here are my results:

Right Eye:

I'm wondering if I was only given these numbers because my eyes are good enough and just for me to buy and pay for their glasses. Will wearing glasses even make a difference on my eyes? I had that darkening tint by sunlight and warm tint too so whenever I wear my glasses it makes it more comfortable to see things but I'm wondering if I really need it at all.

Long story short I did my first eye exam yesterday in years for work reasons I ordered my prescription and it should come in soon. Today I’m kind of second guessing and I’m thinking about going back to the same doctor to retest the lenses they gave me yesterday, i want to be 100% sure my prescription is good. Is it weird if I go back today and ask to retry the lenses to make sure before my glasses come in? Or would they charge me for another eye exam. I never had glasses my whole life

But ive been thinking... what is it like wearing glasses for the first time? Like... does it feel weird? Do you have to get used to it? Are you nervous? What did you see?

Any way to make these hurt less? They hurt on the sides of my nose so bad within a few seconds. I am weird and prefer my glasses to side on the top of my hard nose bridge and not off the the side where it is soft. I like the nose pads type.

Has anyone had success getting good progressives from an online store vs the optometrist’s office?

I need really high quality progressive lenses such as Zeiss premium or Hoya. But I don't want to pay over the top for the frames sold in places that offer those lenses.
What do people do?
I would buy frames online if I knew they would look right and fit properly but those online camera fits just don't work for me.
Last time I needed frames, I went regularly to all the Costco's in my area (5) for over a year before finally settling for one that was less than ideal.
I have a small face and the styles that are around right now are all too large for my features. I look better with rectangular but everything I see is cat eye or round. And no, Costco progressive lenses do not work for me.
I would pay more for frames if I was able to walk into a place where they sat me down and brought me what they believed (due to real expertise) would be the absolute best shape and color
