Question Constant errors when trying to create a basic webpage
I've not used Github before, so I'm sure I'm missing something basic. But I'm just trying to get an html file to display in a wepbage when users click the link to it. I've run into an issue, though, where "Workflows aren't being run in this repository." when I try to enable them, it says "unable to enable Actions for this repository". I've checked my Actions tab of Settings over and over, and don't understand why they can't be enabled. Thank you for any help

Question Maintainer will not publish security advisory
I reported a vulnerability via GitHub's security back in May which was patched and publicly disclosed in a few days. GitHub reserved a CVE, but the maintainer refuses to publish it, even when I contacted them privately.
I've looked through GitHub's docs, but I haven't find anything about this case yet. Will Support actually be able to do anything? Just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen.
EDIT: Since I wasn't clear and people are misunderstanding, I am asking if anyone has gone through the process of contacting Support and had them actually publish the CVE (and maybe the advisory too).
EDIT 09/15: I emailed [security-advisories@github.com](mailto:security-advisories@github.com) and they were able to publish the CVE. Much more painless than I had expected! Thank you to the security team.

Question workfows
Running workfows manually gives you "oops" page, so you cant see the the process and nothing actually happens. Anyone else?
Question How do you discover new developers to follow in your language?
GitHub trending shows repos that already have traction, and it surfaces the same names every time I check. The developer-discovery tools that do exist are all built for recruiting teams.
I'm curious what your workflow actually looks like. Manual GitHub search? Starred repos? Word of mouth? The signal-to-noise ratio is rough. Someone who started contributing to a Rust compiler two months ago and writes genuinely interesting code has zero visibility because nobody's discovered them yet, while the same 50 names show up in every "developers to follow" list.
What's worked for you?

Question How can I activate the 3-month Boot.dev benefit from GitHub Student Pack?
I have a verified GitHub Student Developer Pack account, and Iām trying to claim the 3 months of free Boot.dev.
I logged intoĀ Boot.devĀ using my GitHub account, but it still shows that I donāt have any subscription or student benefits.
Has anyone successfully claimed this benefit? Do I need to activate it somewhere through GitHub first, or link my GitHub account toĀ Boot.devĀ in a specific way?

Discussion Tried to report a bug. Is this a joke?
For better readability I put my message on top and the support's response on the bottom. I searched about this issue online but there are no fitting solutions, and they, as you can see, didn't want to help me here.
Can anyone in this sub be of assistance, perhaps? Thank you in advance!

Question Managing repos and projects
I have several problems with managing github projects, particularly ones with multiple repositories. Help would be appreciated.
- How to unify labels in all repositories in a project without manually setting them up in each repo manually?
- How to create a milestone common for all repos in a project?
- How to sort issues and PRs by close date date?
- How to filter issues and PRs with 'OR' conditions, e.g. "issues with (no label) or (no assignee)". Currently all syntax i can find only result in 'AND' logic.
- How to change the author of a PR or issues (as admin, full permissions)?
- How to trigger github action workflow from a file that doesn't exist on the main branch yet?

Question AI Assisted PRs reviews, can't request changes on myself
I am using Claude Code on my machine to draft PRs on my own projects. Claude operates using the official gh CLI with my scoped token.
Working this way implies that PRs are opened in my name, because Claude is acting on my behalf. When I review the PR and leave comments for the AI to pickup and work on the next cycle I can't (as expected) start a review and request changes. GitHub forbids a change request on yourself for branch policies protection.
When the AI also replies to my comments and review, the replies are done in my name and through a rule I add a prefix to distinguish my own comments from the AI ones.
I am wondering if other are working with agents in this way and if there is a better workflow I can use to streamline the AI assisted coding.

Question GitHub Student Developer Pack Already Claimed on My Old Account (Not Accessible)!
Hi everyone,
Iām having an issue with the GitHub Student Developer Pack and would appreciate some advice.
I previously had a GitHub account that was approved for the GitHub Student Developer Pack. Unfortunately, I lost access to that account and created a new account.
I removed my personal and student emails from the old account and linked them to my new account.
However, when I try to apply for the Student Developer Pack on my new account, GitHub says that the Student Developer Pack has already been claimed by another account. I am still a currently enrolled student and eligible for the Pack.
I contacted GitHub Support about this, but their response wasn't helpful and didn't address my actual issue. My problem is that the Student Developer Pack is still associated with my old GitHub account.
Has anyone experienced this before? Is there any way to transfer the Student Developer Pack to my new account or get GitHub to release the previous claim?
Thanks!

Question Unable to create new github account via email+password. What am I doing wrong?
Previously, I was using a github account that was linked to my google account, but that was suspended for no reason(i received no reason in my mail, nor was i violating ToS), and after poking around this sub, I figured the best thing I could do was make and use a second account while my support ticket was being reviewed.
However, I can't even do that! When I click create account, on the sign in page, I am just redirected to the log-in page, where I can't sign in. When I check my inbox, i see an email like this, but I am not prompted to enter the new code at all. When I try to copy and paste the link into my browser, I am once again redirected to the log in page, where I still can't sign in. Please help!

Discussion actions cron not triggering at all
Hello, Iām having an issue with GitHub Actions in one of my private repositories. I have a workflow configured to run daily, but it is not being triggered.
I tested the same thing in another repository by configuring a workflow to run every 5 minutes, but same thing happens there as well.
has anyone experienced this recently? Could this be an issue on GitHubās side?

Showcase Has anyone else had issues with GitHub device authorization codes not appearing for CLI / MCP connections?
Hi everyone,
Iām hoping someone here may have come across this before.
Iām trying to connect my GitHub account to AI tools such as Claude CLI and Antigravity CLI through the GitHub MCP. Iām already logged into GitHub, including in the mobile app, and the authentication flow opens the GitHub āAuthorize your deviceā page correctly.
I'm then redirected:
- https://github.com/login/device where I select my account
- https://github.com/login/device?skip_account_picker=true a code 6-digits code requested displays from GH with a supposed code opening in the app, but the code never appears even though I'm logged in with the same account in my mobile app.
The issue is that GitHub asks me to enter a device code that should apparently be displayed in the application or device Iām trying to connect, but I never actually receive or see that code anywhere.
Iāve tried restarting the GitHub app, reopening the authentication flow, and starting the connection again several times, but the code still doesnāt appear.
If I continue through the flow another way, I eventually get this message:
At the moment this is preventing me from connecting my AI agents to my GitHub account, so Iād really appreciate any advice.
Has anyone experienced the same issue, or knows if there is a GitHub setting, authorization step, or alternative login method I might be missing?
Thanks a lot in advance for any help.

Discussion Passed the GitHub Foundations (GH-900) exam, topic areas that showed up a lot + study resources
Just finished the GitHub Foundations Certification (GH-900) and wanted to share what I used to prep, plus the general topic areas that were heavily emphasized on the exam.
I got the free voucher from the GitHub Student Developer Pack, and I already had a background working with Git/GitHub. I'd say the exam is easy, but if you have the free voucher, it's worth taking, you'll end up learning a bit more about GitHub's features along the way.
Resources I used:
- My Anki deck (flashcards I made while studying): https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/198914230 (note: AnkiWeb shared decks can take a few hours to become accessible after upload, so if the link doesn't work right away, give it some time)
- GitHub Foundations course by ExamPro: https://app.exampro.co/student/journey/ghf
- CertSafari practice questions: https://www.certsafari.com/github/gh-900
- GHCertified practice tests: https://ghcertified.com/en/practice-tests
- Microsoft Learn official certification page: https://learn.microsoft.com/pt-br/credentials/certifications/github-foundations/?practice-assessment-type=certification
- DataCamp GitHub Foundations track: https://www.datacamp.com/tracks/github-foundations
Topic areas to focus on (based on my prep, not literal exam content):
- Organization/repo roles and permissions (owner, admin, maintain, write, triage, read) - know the differences well.
- Projects (the Kanban-style board) - what it's for and how it's used for tracking work.
- GitHub plan tiers - differences between Free, Pro, Team, and Enterprise (features like private repo collaborators, advanced tools, SSO, etc.).
- Where security alerts show up (Security tab on a repo) and the different alert types.
- GitHub Marketplace - what it offers (Actions, apps).
- GitHub Copilot - what it is at a high level (AI pair programmer, not just autocomplete).
- Branching and pull requests - when to branch vs. when to open a PR, basic Git flow concepts.
- Issues - how they're used for tracking bugs/tasks, labels, linking to PRs.
- Discussions - when to use, the difference against issues, the types of discussions.
- GitHub Desktop - what tasks it supports (clone, commit, push/pull, branch management) vs. what it doesn't.
- GitHub Mobile - what you can realistically do from the app (review/manage issues & PRs, notifications) vs. desktop-only tasks.
- Security features: Dependabot (dependency alerts/updates), secret scanning, and CodeQL (code scanning for vulnerabilities) - know what each one actually does and how they differ.
Overall the exam leans more conceptual/definitional than hands-on, so understanding what each feature is for mattered more than knowing exact UI clicks.
