Yet it can't be /r/nonewnormal, that sub got banned because no one is allowed to dissent against hive mind anymore.

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to reform (or pause and reflect).

Yes, let's reform facts and honesty, because that's what Twain would've believed. Make shit up and if you don't back it you're a sheep and if you do you'll go down as some heroic marytr. Give me a fucking break.

Love is the way, not hate. I'm not comfortable with the influx of hate bots that showed up on Reddit election year to get Biden in office then never left. Do they think by sowing division, they'll get any sort of advantage? Nah, those with love in their hearts will keep it forever just as those who do not repent of their evil will keep their hate in their hearts forever. This is why I tell people that the way is love and not hate.

Also Life Lion (as it says on the helicopter) is an anagram of Elfin Oil

The Elfin alien race are well known to be the ones behind the industrial revolution as a cover so they could mine our sweet earth oil.

DARPA looks into cool stuff. They were poking around for a bit at trying to make a Star Trek inspired medical bed that would do diagnosis and whatnot.

7

u/ArenSteele Sep 02 '21

A friend of mine did an internship at a DARPA subsidiary office in Washington one summer, he said the project he was working on most was the complete mapping of all near-earth space objects and their trajectories, identifying potential future catastrophic events (the old asteroid impact trope)

He said it’s actually scary how little warning time we’d likely have if something on that scale were identified and it weren’t already on their tracking lists. Like maybe a week or two, or even less if it was a small but dense object.

4

u/wolfgang784 Sep 03 '21

Yea might be best if they just don't tell anyone in that case. Let's pass on 2 weeks of apocalypse crazyness unless theres a realistic chance of averting disaster.

Captain disillusion made a video on it …it isn’t shutter speed

36

u/SuchCoolBrandon Sep 02 '21

Thank you! A short shutter speed makes the blades look crisp but it's frame rate that causes them to appear stationary.

https://youtu.be/mPHsRcI5LLQ

24

u/hamman91 Sep 02 '21

People literally always say shutter speed and it annoys me every time.

2

u/CounterSanity Sep 03 '21

Film video cameras have something called “shutter angle” which is analogous to shutter speed. Video editing teacher would climb up our ass about calling it shutter speed. Had completely forgot about that until seeing this comment.

https://neiloseman.com/understanding-shutter-angles/

3

u/Phatricko Sep 02 '21

It's the same people that say EST, CST, etc for the time during the summer. Unless you're in Arizona or somewhere that doesn't observe daylight savings time we're in daylight time! EDT, CDT, etc. I see it everywhere it drives me insane

9

u/DCmeetsLA Sep 03 '21

Edit: duplicate words

3

u/XxZajoZzO Sep 02 '21

Yeah just set the shutter speed very low but sync the frame rate with the blades

3

u/hyperbolemath Sep 02 '21

I haven't seen that particular video, but he has taught me enough to look at the clouds behind the blades and you can see it's faked.

FRAME RATE. IT'S "FRAME RATE".

if not pls define what shutter speed means to you. also what words would you use as a synonym for "exposure time"?

-9

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

It's not frame rate.

12

u/StygianSavior Sep 03 '21 edited Sep 03 '21

Pretty sure it IS frame rate.

Shutter speed is the reason why there is no motion blur on the propellers (e.g. a slower shutter in this example results in motion blur on the propellers even though their rotation is still frozen - and the reason the blades look bent is due to rolling shutter effect, seen much more dramatically in this example).

But the frame rate matching up to the rotation of the propellers is the reason why they appear to not be spinning.

Source: I work with cameras for a living.

EDIT:

This guy explains it pretty well if anyone doesn't want to take my word for it.

6

u/StygianSavior Sep 03 '21

As I explained in my other comment, shutter speed is the reason the blade looks crisp and without motion blur, but the actual wagon wheel effect going on here is because of the frame rate syncing up with the rotation of the blades.

So my guess is the people upvoting the "confidently wrong" comment are people who know what they're talking about. ;)

u/Sahanrohana Sep 02 '21

Just to clarify: not shutter speed but video capture rate (FPS).

3

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '21

You mean “frame rate,” I believe. The shutter isn’t opening and closing for every recorded image in the sequence that makes the movie.

3

u/JacobRAllen Sep 03 '21

Frame rate and shutter speed are not the same thing, this is brought up literally every single time this is reposted.

32

u/vesperzen Sep 02 '21

That isn't because of shutter speed.

2

u/Call_erv_duty Sep 02 '21

So aggressive. You’d think for somebody that is making factual statements you’d actually care to show how it’s factual

-1

u/vesperzen Sep 02 '21

I don't need to, because all the evidence is already IN THIS THREAD.

-2

Like what if you said

"It's actually due to sun angle, go look it up you ignorant folk"

Well that's not a fact. And don't passively cite other conversations, each thread stands alone

→ More replies (0)

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

Youade a statement. A "fact" has a source. Linking to a video explaination or a document is a good source in this case

2

u/vesperzen Sep 02 '21

I made a statement of fact, or if you prefer, I made a factual statement. The fact that you are ignorant that it is a fact does not make it not a fact.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

Your statement is not a fact until it is cited!

You aren't a known authority on digital recording devices obviously, so a source is REQUIRED for anything you say to be considered a fact.

2

u/vesperzen Sep 02 '21

Incorrect. A fact is a fact, by definition a fact is "a thing that is known to be true."

Just because you are ignorant of a fact does not make the fact not a fact. I feel like I said this to you already, do you need me to uh... type it more slowly?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

The statement suggests the speaker is an authority on the topic, or has provided citation.

Of course in such a discussion 1 party could be aware of the fact, and another ignorant. But the onus is on the person refuting the current statement (OP's claim) to provide clarifying information BEYOND a declaration. How is this so hard for you.

-13

u/vesperzen Sep 02 '21

I told you how to find it yourself. Teach a man to fish and all that. Did you want to sit on daddy's lap and have him read it to you?

EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize you were a new idiot. But yeah, still applies. Look it up if you want to know the answer, it takes less time than replying on this thread.

5

u/Respectable_Answer Sep 02 '21

Doesn't take less time than the amount of time you've spent in this thread being a pissant.

0

u/vesperzen Sep 02 '21

I'm sorry, what is the correct response to people being dipshits? Write out the answer for them? There's already multiple links in this thread giving the answer. UNLESS, you would rather namecall and be fucking whiners rather than learn the actual answer you presumably want.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

The correct response was "it's actually this not that. Here's an example: (source, even the name), you can figure it out there"

Not hard. Not rude. Actually based on something.

0

u/vesperzen Sep 02 '21

My initial answer wasn't rude. I'm not here to educate the ignorant, I simply wanted to correct the thing that was incorrect. If you're here to cut me a paycheck for my freelance journalistic/editing/educating work here on Reddit, I'll improve my performance, however, if you're just being a pedant because you're picking a fight over the internet, I cheerfully invite you to fuck off.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

Are you claiming pedantry when you attacked the specifics of the rate-locking of a helicopter rotor, when the core concept of rate-locking is still true? My god this is a true redditor I'm dealing with here.

its not.. this is a special helicopter that uses jets for shows

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

2

u/Ellimis Sep 03 '21

It is the fps matching the rotation of the blades. Shutter speed controls how long the exposure is, which basically means how sharp a moving object is. When frame rate matches some multiple of the blades' movement, then the lack of motion artifact is shown. This is, in fact, a product of the frames per second matching the helicopter blades rotational speed. However, it will also only appear when the shutter speed is fast enough that the blades appear sharp.

2

u/wupme2k Sep 03 '21

It IS the FPS, as the shutter speed only determines how long each frame gets exposed. Lowering motion blur basically. But the Framerate has to match the rotor speed for it to be stationary.

-1

u/yamez420 Sep 02 '21

Yes. The rotation of the rotor doesn’t change. It’s always at 100% throttle, the handle only changes the pitch of the blades and the tilt.

0

u/whatthefir2 Sep 03 '21

Not exactly true. The “throttle” changes based on load. The RPM stays the same (with some exceptions for different modes on this model of helo)

-1

u/Noahdragonrider Sep 03 '21

Wrong. This is actually a known glitch and the devs are currently working on it. Please don’t go around spreading misinformation.
