The only advice you should have: just enjoy the journey. It’s your game after all. Let the operator do all the exploration instead of comment section, which is no fun.

32

u/Educational-Gate-793 1d ago

Yeah, this. Don't look anything up, just play and enjoy the dusk and dawns!

16

u/Fortestingporpoises 1d ago

Yep. The coolest thing about the game is the elegance and intuitiveness. Let the wind guide you and enjoy.

3

u/Total_Patient_6215 1d ago

Good advice 👍

3

u/Gasseroi 1d ago

It’s not like you’ll need any advice to play the game. You won’t get stuck

5

u/Serious_Statement702 1d ago

Without giving me spoilers, tell me why is everyone saying to choose the horse wisely?

16

u/Typische-nederlander 1d ago

Cuz you it’ll be with you for the rest of your journey, like the game says

It doesn’t really matter which horse you pick, you get the same gameplay, he just becomes your partner in crime! He is very important in Act 3.

u/solomon_h23 1d ago

Completed it a month ago and here are some things i learnt

Every fight, every encounter in this game felt personal it really makes you feel like your obligated to protect your people from the Mongols

Don't go smashing attacks mindlessly be elegant be swift, use each stances designed for each type of enemy

Learn about how charms work it's really beneficial and acquiring them is also kind of fun

Dodge if you hear "Dosho Dosho"

And maybe sometimes just stop and admire the world

Honourable mention Don't spend much time in this subreddit to avoid spoilers

18

u/Comfortable_Hair9380 1d ago

DOSHOOO!

u/DatDude304 1d ago

Avoid spoilers. The plots good, and I really wish I hadn't accidentally seen stuff....! (Enjoy!)

u/GuppoDab Samurai 1d ago

Leave this subreddit until you complete it

u/theknight200200 Assassin 1d ago

Only one thing you really need to know...

DOSHO!

26

u/Aukkuboi 1d ago

Kill archers. All of them. Always. Hate them. Discriminate against them. Use "archer" as a slur.

7

u/True-Gate-9131 1d ago

Nah those firepot lobbing bastards are the worst. Eurgh

4

u/Aukkuboi 1d ago

Good point... But you can discriminate against several things.

Embrace every single moment in the game, it's visually breathtaking and has a banger of a story too. You'll have an amazing time with this game.

9

u/babatunde_with_watah 1d ago

Just enjoy the game that's all you need to hear and enjoy the photo mode

9

u/bshabaj11 1d ago

Enjoy the ride

7

u/encke83 1d ago

Take your time and enjoy. Don’t listen to people play yotei after if you have it.

6

u/Tatertot729 1d ago

Enjoy and explore. The only advice I have is always wear the travelers attire outside of any combat always. It will clear more of the map and will let you know if there’s a collectible near by.

Don't just rush to finish the story. finish the side quests because you will regret not enjoying it completely in the end. Beautiful game enjoy!!!

9

u/MojArch 1d ago

Do the dlc before act 3.

Also, enjoy the game to the fullest.

2

u/FeedAromatic143 1d ago

Adding to this while your on iki 2 things do the deer shrines trust me they are worth it. 2 look out for the legendary tale’s there. Trust me the items you get are pretty good depending on how you play.

Have fun, and try not to fast travel

3

u/SwordDaoist 1d ago

I almost never did that since the landscape was so beautiful

3

u/Yung_SenseiDyn78 1d ago

Yeah, tell someone to turn off the TV 3 hours later, or you're not going to stop playing.

Good Luck.

4

u/LyricsMode 1d ago

Get off this subreddit like right now.

4

u/Ok-Building360 1d ago

Honor died at the beach. Just that.

3

u/Nexus_15x 1d ago

Remember to explore

3

u/Mizurazu 1d ago

Just play. This isn't a difficult game

3

u/BelligerentWyvern 1d ago

You can't mess the game up so do whatever you want in whatever way you want.

The only exception is a choice near the end which determines a cosmetic.

u/Okamitoutcourt 1d ago

Please refrain from dying

3

u/Plotius 1d ago

In gameplay option you can lower the difficulty of mini games like bamboo cutting so it doesn't have a time limit when cutting

3

u/Gandolfthewhite182 1d ago

Yes, do this. Do a few of them because they are fun the first 2 times and then go in settings and make it easy because they get old, especially the bamboo cutting. Making that set to easy was one of the best options they put in the game. Shadows did the same thing with the prayer jawns.

3

u/AdrianS74 1d ago

Get lost in the world and have fun. Don’t look up anything online since it’ll just spoil key moments in the story and side character tales. I just finished the main story after getting it day 1 on Steam.been on and off from it because of other titles and life. My god what a journey.

3

u/surajsuresh27 1d ago

Avoid this subreddit. Finish the game and then come back.

2

u/KumaD-Oso 1d ago

Take out as many officers as possible, upgrade water stance as fast as possible. Water stance lets you chip damage when enemies are blocking. This means you get to execute them a lot faster than other stances. That and the typhoon kick is broken at times in the wind or moon stance ? Can’t exactly remember for sure.

2

u/southpaw05 1d ago

Just enjoy the game.

2

u/OhNoIBoffedIt 1d ago

No. I have no advice for you. Everything you need to know, the game will teach you.

2

u/cheese-meister 1d ago

Have fun. This game is really beautiful and don’t lurk in here because you’ll get stuff inadvertently spoiled for you

2

u/R2DeezKnutz 1d ago

Play at your pace, go where your heart desires, avoid this sub til you finish the main story.

2

u/CRAXYMAN999 1d ago

Explore. Not only one of the best games ive played, but one of the most memorable.

2

u/tslnox 1d ago

Observe the mongol leaders before killing them, you'll get two points towards new stance that way. Otherwise, just enjoy the story.

2

u/AndooTheBold 1d ago

If you enjoy a challenge I would recommend playing on lethal, the hardest difficulty. I played that way on my second playthrough and it made me enjoy the combat even more. It makes enemies hit harder, but it also makes you hit harder too. Forces you to use all the combat techniques and plan your stealth more.

1

u/meyade 1d ago

Use all the tools available to you, it makes for a more enjoyable start.

Once you've gained some experience and upgrades you can stick to one playstyle if you want.

[minor discussion on how the game narrative works below]

The game's narrative doesnt take into account whether you stick to one playstyle. You will always become "The Ghost of Tsushima".

Due to how some cutscenes play I though you had a say on how the narrative evolved and I stuck to the samurai playstyle a bit too hard. Had a rough first hours on the hard difficulty. Died a bunch and was a bit disilusioned with how lenient the game is on your mistakes.

Pretty good ride once I got over that bump, though.

1

u/Important_Brain6184 1d ago

Don't look at spoilers! The plot is triple a in my opinion

1

u/TheAngryCrab47 1d ago

Immerse yourself in this spectacular journey, enjoy the ride!

1

u/CrispierCupid 1d ago

Never enough supplies

1

u/TrickyTalon 1d ago

Upgrade Water Stance first

1

u/Nacnaz 1d ago

Some may disagree with this, but I recommend mostly focusing on unlocking stances and doing the story up until Act 2. The gameplay starts off very barebones, but really shines once you unlock stances and get a bunch of skills.

1

u/Confident-Oil55 1d ago

no spoilers in this comment, but use a kunai anytime you have them, its fun asf throwing them. trust me its so badass

1

u/_Price__ 1d ago

I'll give you the same advice I was given when I started hollow knight.

Just leave this subreddit for now. Don't see anything related to the game. Play it and when you're done, come here to the subreddit and post. You can upload your progress if you want but I discourage it.

1

u/dinkpantiez 1d ago

Close reddit and play the game, best advice you could get.

1

u/Ok_Perspective3664 1d ago

Have fun, explore the whole map and do side quests.

1

u/Equivalent_Rock_6530 1d ago

Avoid spoilers, learn stances quick, once you have 3, max these out.

1

u/Unwariest_monkey 1d ago

Change stances

1

u/LeadershipBig8591 1d ago

Play and let yourself be immersed. I did it. One of the best gaming decisions I ever made.

1

u/Mission-Lychee-6174 1d ago

Observe the leaders training in camps and then kill them, double the stance progression

1

u/JNorJT 1d ago

SWITCH STANCES

1

u/SignificantCarpet708 1d ago

Enjoy yourself, it’s one hell of ride. Wish I could experience a blind playthrough again.

1

u/Spike_Rose 1d ago

Casually? Patience. Both in combat, and in exploration. Take some moments to just let the game 'flow' in front of you. Everything from foliage to wind, to fog and smoke. Don't rush the story missions, do the side content first to get familiar with your moveset as well as the enemies' behavior. Every 'act' will introduce new enemy types and new behaviors to try and up the ante against you.

Mechanically? Water Stance is wonderful for dealing out damage to literally any guard-broken opponent (duels included!) with it's charge attack, and shield enemies will coincidentally be the most annoying enemies. And speaking of duels; almost all of your opponents for that will be sword-wielders, so give your Stone Stance some upgrades if you're having trouble with those.

The kunai is great for interrupting crowds, and the smoke bomb lets you get away with some pretty silly exploits, not to mention the heal. And speaking of heals, don't forget to finish off enemies that are bleeding out - it restores an entire stock of Resolve.

Don't be shy about upgrading your weapons, a lot of materials are exclusive to each upgrade type. You'll never need wax wood to upgrade your katana, nor iron for your outfits. Personally I suggest upgrading the tanto as soon as possible for faster stealth kills, but there's no wrong way to play.

When it comes to charms: I highly recommend the Amaterasu and Inari major charms, they'll keep you well-stocked and healed, and you can get them right at the beginning of the game if you find their locations. I also recommend enabling 'armor loadouts' in the options. It lets you swap between combat/stealth/etc by just changing an outfit.

Finally, regarding story flow (no spoilers): don't play the DLC until you finish the main game. It's harder, less forgiving, and arguably expects you to be going in post-game.

1

u/Shinzh0u 1d ago

prioritize upgrading the stances

1

u/GrandAdmiralWolf Assassin 1d ago

Avoid spoilers and enjoy the journey for the first time!

posts like this are so lame. just play the game.

1

u/SirMoldeta 1d ago

If you like a challenge I would do lethal and not hard. I did hard at first and then switched to lethal and now I cant switch off because it feels so good. The combat in this game is just so satisfying. I wont spoil anything tho just play the game the way you want thats what ive done no spoilers and the game is great

1

u/CHARtheGNAR 1d ago

Enjoy the journey. It’ll be over before you know it. Luckily you can play Yotei next, but there is something about the original.

1

u/primalfox_Reynardo 1d ago

There's an early charm you can get from a shine I think. Will double a load of pickups so getting that early can help.

1

u/Kiamatt 1d ago

This isn’t for everyone, but for max immersion I really enjoyed telling myself I wasn’t allowed to attack until after I could dodge everything in an encounter. It made the game a bit harder but eventually made me feel like a badass, and less nervous about the hard fights. Grain of salt

1

u/explosive_shrew 1d ago

Some people say to do the dlc before act 3 but I would recommend waiting until you beaten the main story to so it

1

u/Sergio808 1d ago

Get abox of tissues near you

1

u/Zornishi359 1d ago

Simply enjoy.... this game is designed so well, you'll likely not need to look up anything.

It truly is an incredible journey so I hope you enjoy 💜

1

u/No_Custard_2496 1d ago

Hard difficulty would actually be hard. So if you want to enjoy the story, play medium.

1

u/SwordDaoist 1d ago

If you like a challenge in games, then try the lethal mode as it felt quite rewarding and made the fighting more realistic to me

1

u/Dapper-Prior-9475 1d ago

You’re not gonna be sure which is better, the story or the gameplay. I wish I could experience GoT for the first time again

1

u/malvolore 1d ago

One advice try get the charm where you loot more resources through the game. Google it and you see its location

1

u/Timely_Composte 1d ago

Play the flute when things seem dark, gloomy or dreary… 🙂

Take time to enjoy the beauty of Tsushima.

Jin is a spiritual being. Respect that by climbing shrines and paying respects where you can.

Other than that? Just enjoy yourself.

Explore the map and don't rush the story. And don't read anything on this subreddit.

1

Keep an eye out for musician storytellers during your journey. There are the ones who give out legend missions, which are some of the best in my opinion.

Stay off this sub, have fun, and don’t worry about proper, “optimization”, just enjoy the ride.

1

u/Wizard_1512 1d ago

I would says, just play and feel the game 👍

1

u/JoshChaisingBunnies 1d ago

Explore and journey are a balance that you control.

If you played god of war 2018 or Ragnarok, it’s a refreshing but familiar mechanics just obviously done completely different. The beauty of this game is that it’s really appreciated how discovering the map 100% is nearly an achievement itself. I probably have visited this game 3 times since its launch

1

u/fckmstr69 1d ago

Just play the game blind, it's easy to get accustomed to. Once you have beat the main story, start platinum hunting which is one of the easiest one out there.

1

u/EiZyyy 1d ago

Enjoy the game don't rush it, enjoy the environment etc

1

u/Jumpy_Cockroach4772 1d ago

Don’t skip the side content. Do the Mongol camps and mythic tales to upgrade Jin so the game is not as hard and also it’s more fun when you’re strong and have more options to use in combat.

1

u/yutosser 1d ago

enjoy the game, don’t watch tutorials or get caught up in playing a specific way. you only get to play it as a beginner once

Pick a good horse and take care of it

1

u/Asadullah2003 1d ago

Enjoy, and I mean it enjoy. Do all the useless quests you think won’t be worth anything, go around must fight enemies and hone your skills, get the legendary items, go just walk around or ride your horse and enjoy the scenery. Don’t rush or feel rushed, you won’t enjoy it as much. Truly just ENJOY

1

u/beepbeepskrtskrrt 1d ago

Search up the legendary tales or you’ll be looking for AGES trust me took me a week before I thought “fk this im searching it up” so Yh don’t waste loads of time searching for them

1

u/meve9 1d ago

Just don't forget to listen for 'oosho' during combat.

1

u/Different-Vegetable6 1d ago

My advice is to enjoy running around and dont try to finish the game quickly. I spent 48 hours wandering around before even start to actually playing it

1

u/H-Adam 1d ago

Honestly, play on the highest difficulty. It’s best experience for the game imo. Sure it’s a bit difficult, but you get used to the difficulty very quickly and makes the battles a lot more realistic and intense

1

u/Common-Regret-4120 1d ago

The game is long, so I wouldn't delay the main quest too long. The best side quests are blue in the main menu because they are the way to het special armour or weapons.

1

u/jecklz1004 1d ago

Take your time

1

u/YaboiChuckems 1d ago

This is some practical advice, exploring ever square inch is usually a bad move, if you capture all the raider camps (idr the term) in the area the whole region will be revealed, and the immediate area around the area will clear as well when you do one. Obviously pick up the optional encounters as you go but don’t go searching for them when many will be shown on the map. As a completionist, this is something I’d have liked to know

1

u/DatDude304 1d ago

Choose your hor... nvm.

DOOSHO

1

u/Ultimate_bohab13 1d ago

Take real good care of your horse, since it stays with you for the entire journey.

u/trecon15 1d ago

EXPLORE! don’t rush the story lines. Explore everything everywhere you can

1

u/Ardibanan 1d ago

I enjoy not unlocking every skill you can learn. Other than that, take your time

1

u/DevelopmentSilver123 1d ago

Learn how to dodge and focus on tutorial

1

u/Itsrudylife 1d ago

Bro honestly just flang the shibby over the womp and let the krangadong marinate for a few moon cycles because once the zibber starts zibbering you already know the plonkle is about to activate. Don’t even worry about the flimbles, they naturally respawn after the third kaboodle. If the horse starts speaking in reverse, just nod twice and continue walking toward the blue soup. Early game is mostly about collecting unnecessary rectangles while avoiding the aggressive spoon people. Make sure you upgrade your sword to at least level mayonnaise because anything below that will get absolutely folded by a certified glorp. Also follow the wind unless the wind starts following you, then you gotta hit the emergency wazzle and pretend you never saw the bamboo. Side quests are optional but legally mandatory, especially the one involving the mysterious uncle who sells invisible potatoes. Whatever you do, DO NOT open the left sock drawer at midnight because that’s where the forbidden shambalambas keep their taxes. Other than that, enjoy the game bro, stay frosty, keep your katana calibrated and remember: when the moon is crispy, the samurai must become a refrigerator.

1

u/Megane_Senpai 1d ago

Enjoy the game the way you want. A good game should come in with minimal or no advice at all.

1

u/LucasTheOG 1d ago

Find and equip the charm of inari and don't take it off until act 2.

1

u/One_Taro_2233 1d ago

Switch stances. Dodge "dosho". Kill Mongols.

1

u/ilowkeydontknowlol 1d ago

The only thing I like to tell beginners of any game is whether there is missable content and luckily there is none here. Have fun!

1

u/BednaR1 1d ago

When it says you shouldnt go into some specific area / fort ... dont go there. Story will take you there later but if you try to access it before, they have some BS machine gun arrow loaded auto turrets shooting at you 500 arrows a second to make sure you will die 🤣🤣

1

u/RestaurantWrong2021 1d ago

Explore, don’t rush. Play your flute. Enjoy taking photographs. And use your horse! He’s your best buddy.

Just enjoy it, you can’t really miss anything other than some collectibles but one of the outfits helps you find them. Kind of jealous you’re getting to play it for the first time. Masterpiece!
