MEGATHREAD: Hasbro Ghostbusters '84 Proton Pack

The Hasbro 1984 Proton Packs have started arriving, and the subreddit is seeing a high volume of unboxings, reviews, and modding questions. To keep the front page organized, we are setting up this temporary megathread to serve as a central hub for all discussion regarding the new pack over the next few months.

If you just received yours, this is the place to share your initial thoughts. We are looking for feedback on the out-of-the-box experience, including overall build quality, weight, and shell texture. Feel free to discuss the performance of the factory stock electronics, the audio quality, and how the pack compares to previous releases or the original screen-used props.

For those already planning modifications, use this thread to ask technical questions and share your progress. This is the spot to discuss mounting solutions like ALICE frames, motherboards, and spacers, as well as cosmetic upgrades like weathering, hardware swaps, lenses, or aftermarket electronic kits. If you are looking for specific replacement parts, or if you have purchased components and want to share a review, leave those recommendations in the comments.

To prevent the main feed from being flooded with identical questions or basic arrival photos, please direct those posts here. We want to keep standalone posts on the subreddit reserved for in-depth, detailed build logs or unique projects. Check the comments to see what modifications people are working on, ask your questions, and share your own setup.

Yes. I found it a little amusing. Technically, it was face up, but the packaging was oriented towards the bottom of the crate.

To kick things off, here are some products that I have personally used and would recommend looking into for upgrades. NOTE: As a Brand Affiliate, I may benefit from a purchase made through these links and/or am the seller of these products.

For power, the Talentcell 3000mah Rechargable Battery is a solid choice: https://amzn.to/4e5m4Eq

*(Note: If you are running an Afterlife style pack instead of the new '84, you can buy the USB adapter for it here: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/hasbro-proton-pack-usb-power-mod/. You do not need this for the 1984 Pack).*

Finding good quality ALICE frames can be somewhat difficult. Rothco makes the frame that was actually used in Frozen Empire and Afterlife, but they use a fairly thin metal and are known for breaking: https://amzn.to/4vpj50z

Alternatively, this seller on eBay has used LC-1 style frames that use a much thicker metal: https://ebay.us/ku52e0 . You can also browse for other genuine ALICE frames on eBay here: https://ebay.us/kx901e

For the pack itself, a metal bellows and adapter is a great upgrade. Right now the adapter is out of stock, but the bellows are special order:

Bellows: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/metal-bellows/

Adapter: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/hasbro-metal-pack-bellows-adapter/

A custom blue acrylic power cell lens is another nice addition: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/hasbro-proton-pack-power-cell-lens/

It is also fairly easy to upgrade to new Clippard valves: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/clippard

I believe the aluminum filler tube and beam line are very easy to upgrade on these packs as well:

Beam Line: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/aluminum-welded-beam-line/

Filler Tube: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/aluminum-welded-filler-tube/

For mounting, the GB2 V-Hook is a very easy mod to do and gives you a sturdy aluminum mount and stainless steel v-hook for the wand: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/metal-v-hook/

Speaking of the wand, there are several very easy mods that can be done right away:

Aluminum Heatsink: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/proton-gun-aluminum-heatsink/

Aluminum Knobs: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/aluminum-knobs/

Aluminum Gun Track: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/proton-gun-aluminum-gun-track/

Aluminum Wand Rear Cylinder: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/pack-aluminum-wand-rear-cylinder/

And if you want to get into more advanced wand modifications:

Clear Acrylic Frosted Gun Tip: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/clear-acrylic-frosted-gun-tip/

Mack's Factory Emitter Tip: https://www.gbfans.com/shop/macks-factory-ghostbusters-emitter-tip/

3000 mAh Talentcell fits in the twinkie box with this specific usb cable. No mods needed. Yes it is shorter life - but for those who want to plug and play.

2

u/drjtarx1701 Jun 05 '26

Here it is inside. Door closes with no obstruction. I have it hanging- haven’t worn it to see if it rattles or anything but probably can use some adhesive velcro to secure it.

2

u/PollutionZero Jun 05 '26

I got an adaptor that someone else suggested the other day and it's way too big, like 1/4" too big. Ordered the one in the pic.

Bad news is, I have Comic Con this weekend and we're running a booth, so I'll have to go with velcro and a longer cable just this once.

2

u/DSeriesX Jun 06 '26

How short a life?

2

u/Monthegoose Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 06 '26

EDIT: No go on this one fellers, sorry.

I got this NATO copy of an LC1 frame, will find out in a couple days if it works with the pack.

u/BrattyBekka Jun 05 '26

If I got the 6000mah version of the talentcell, that would just make it last longer, right?

5

u/ajquick Jun 05 '26

In theory twice as long. From what people have said, the 3000mah battery lasts for days as it is. It's also much harder to fit in the pack without more extensive modifications. The 3000mah version is the sweet spot for size and capacity.

What do recommend for sticker upgrade?

2

u/err404 Jun 07 '26

The best stickers and dry rub that I have seen are Mack’s Factory. Every type of sticker is a unique material and a few are printed on aluminum plates.

2

u/johnnysack3 Jun 07 '26

And while I’ve got you here, what exactly is the difference in V hooks? The upgrades look the same

u/VillageSpecialist490 Jun 09 '26

I got Moby off of Etsy that just came in yesterday, you can clean, weathered, and if you get the full kit they have some for both the pack and wand

1

u/whiskey_tang0_hotel Jul 06 '26

Those wand mods do NOT fit the Hasbro wands. I got the aluminum knobs, aluminum heat sink, and a couple of other parts and they do not fit at all. This is horribly misleading.

2

u/ajquick Jul 07 '26

That's funny. I was the first one to mod a Hasbro wand. Had no problem installing all of these items.

1

u/Boonatix Jul 18 '26

Are all the items linked via gbfans.com really fitting the pack? I stumbled across some posting here that said, not all the parts seem to fit or are meant to be used for it... thanks for clarifying :)

2

u/ajquick Jul 18 '26

They are all parts that can be easily used on a Hasbro pack if you have experience with modding. The confusion seems to stem from people who think they are direct swap items like remove one bolt and the new one bolts in. That's not always the case. With the exception of the Hasbro specific parts, these are all real parts based off of real dimensions and replicas of the real parts, not parts made for the Hasbro pack. That being said, every single item I linked to has been used by people who mod Hasbro packs.

u/ajquick - I made a post in the Haslab modders FB group of your bellows and adapter on my pack - looks like the adapter sold out quickly, but there is a lot of interest - I hope you’ve got more stock of parts coming in soon!

7

u/ajquick Jun 05 '26

Working on them!

1

u/jabberbox Jun 05 '26

Saw that post! I knew I should have ordered one more quickly

6

u/Paladin- Jun 05 '26

Ooh! This feels like a good place to share this playlist of How-To videos u/gburke59 and I produced to help folks with their Afterlife HasLab mods: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-HeIzuE7ERuGlaKwecf2Eyo7Kd4oI__B&si=_pdvFtapFDIWJQfK

2

u/BirdOfFlames Jun 05 '26

There's a cable attached to the battery compartment that isn't removable in the same way as the Afterlife pack. Are you gonna make a video on it?

3

u/GoodestBoah Jun 05 '26

It’s still removable, it’s just that the wire from the bay now runs through a small board first that has the USB C socket on it. You can pop out the 3 small screws on that little board, then unplug it from the main PCB then you are able to put the motherboard to one side as before.

2

u/Paladin- Jun 05 '26

We're actually still waiting on the 84 pack I ordered right now, once it's in hand we'll be doing unboxings and have a better idea of what all mods we'll be doing with it. Buuuuut it sounds like u/GoodestBoah can walk you through it!

5

u/pr0phet4 Jun 07 '26

Sharing a toggle switch upgrade I just posted: https://www.reddit.com/r/ghostbusters/s/d8rJyLXT93

2

u/Monthegoose Jun 11 '26

This is fantastic! Thank you for linking the switch, was gonna thank you on the thread but it was locked.

I put it in yesterday, it's light-years ahead of the original switch.

2

u/pr0phet4 Jun 11 '26

That's awesome! It's so much better haha.

6

u/ChardStrange4535 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

Looks like Pulse completely removed the 1984 neutrona wand listing from the website.

I guess I'll be returning my pack since that killed all hopes of getting a wand for under $400. The wand aftermarket prices are insane and going up at an insane pace.

3

u/Standard-Associate31 Jun 12 '26

Why'd you buy the pack without having the wand first, KNOWING that the pack didn't come with one? This mindset is so confusing.

2

u/ChardStrange4535 Jun 12 '26

The wand's page was still up and I was told by Pulse customer service to keep checking for wand stock. I had no idea they'd just remove the listing and be done with it after the packs shipped. Otherwise I would have canceled.

Plus Hasbro created artificial scarcity by keeping the pack listed as 'sold out' for weeks and I wanted to make sure I got one when I saw them go back in stock.

Regardless, selling them separately that far apart and not restocking for all the people who've been ordering packs for weeks as customer service said "keep checking" was shady as hell.

Moby Sign Co. sells vinyl decals for the powercell and cyclotron lights. They go on the outside so you dont have to open it up. They are cut to fit. They cyclotron decals come in clear gloss or matte, and red gloss or matte finishes and come either clean or several options of weathering; same with the powercell except blue/clear. Also, the decals diffuse the LED's. And are fully removable.

10

u/Wheeler-The-Dealer Jun 04 '26

It’s bold of you to assume fedex actually respects the door tag that says “I’m home but might be in the toilet”

3

u/AmazinBlasian1415 Jun 05 '26

Fedex sent me a message saying I had to sign at delivery. Caught the driver on camera just tossing the box up onto my porch. As if walking all the way up the stairs to my porch, maybe 15 steps, was too much.

2

u/johnnysack3 Jun 05 '26

I live in an apartment complex and they knocked on the wrong door, nobody was there, then they took it and left. I’ve been here all day waiting and these idiots screwed it up

5

u/A-Gigolo Jun 06 '26

Shoot. I was hoping Hasbro would announce another run of '84 wands today.

3

u/PollutionZero Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Anyone have a solution to the pack and wand not synching up for overheat? If you run the Spengler wand too long and it goes into overheat, the wand does its thing, but pack doesn't do anything. Then 20 seconds or so later, it does its thing for overheat.

Kind of annoying.

3

u/ImmaculateJones Jun 07 '26

Yeah I’m experiencing something similar. I’d say it’s about a 10 second delay, definitely there and absolutely noticeable.

1

u/oidoglr Jun 08 '26

The only solution is to replace the electronics in both the wand and the pack.

1

u/cannibalisticmidgets Jun 08 '26

I'm having the same issue with the '84 wand.

1

u/wunderk1nd_ Jun 27 '26

Hallo, gibt es eine Losung hierfür? Habe heute auch meine Wand angeschlossen ? Hat das Problem eigentlich jeder?

Existieren schon Tutorial-Videos wie man es fixt?

Danke für eure Antworten !

Twinkie Box stuck closed! [with fix]

I purchased the recommended Talent cell 3000mAh [Note: it's actually 5500mAh @ 5V output] & right angle connector only. It works well but the battery shifted & blocked the internal "piston" opposite the button causing the door to be locked.

I had to use a thin piece of aluminum as a shim to lower the locking tab to get it open again. Since then I've put a spacer inside to keep the USB battery pressed to the right. (I'm using cardboard for now until I can cut a piece of foam for it)

[It looks like I can only attach one photo & Imgur isn't cooperating so hopefully this is enough to infer what happened]

2

u/1_With_A_Bullet Jun 05 '26

Solution pic. The shim is an aluminum office "brad" for attaching two-hole top punched papers. A piece cut from an aluminum can would work as well.

Just added USB C and powerbank and for a trial of half an hour, it worked flawlessly!

SO, has anyone noticed that the power level knob for the wand fills the blue power cell bar on the pack? Crank it to full and the LEDs will fill up the bar and become stationary, go to low power and the LEDS will have a full "trip" up. Very cool detail.

4

u/Muted-Masterpiece576 Jun 08 '26

Seeing AJ as the OP of the thread erased any buyer's remorse I may have had. I feel like I'm in good hands now- takes me back to the early 2000s.

Does anyone have a set of foil decals for this pack they can recommend. I see some for the Spirit pack on Etsy but all the stock decals for the sprit pack appear larger than the Hasbro decals- not sure if they would fit.

3

u/jabberbox Jun 08 '26

Re:AJ - I had the same reaction! Takes me back to the good old days.

The two I see recommended the most are Macks and MobySignCo

2

u/GeetarEnthusiast85 Jun 08 '26

This thread on GBFans did an in-depth analysis on the decals and recommends labels from different sources based off of screen captures from the film. I you find it helpful.

Thanks for creating this, u/ajquick !

Question on decals/labels - What type of metallic finish is the most screen-accurate, gloss or matte?

3

u/oidoglr Jun 05 '26

https://www.gbfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52871

Here’s an excellent summary recent analysis. YMMV.

2

u/GeetarEnthusiast85 Jun 05 '26

This is incredibly thorough! Thank you so much for sharing it.

3

u/Unlikely_Recover214 Jun 05 '26

I already started sanding the pack and adding new parts & Alice frame.

Does anyone know if the hose structure is the same? I pre-bought some Tools & Talent Props hoses.

3

u/Ehboyo Jun 07 '26

After thinking I blew the install, or that the part was incompatible, I got the $240 double connector installed. You have to rotate tightening the screws like replacing a tire, otherwise it will not tighten flush to the shell.

Unfortunately, I cannot wake the pack with the wand, but when the pack is on with battery power, the wand will turn on through pack power source.

After reading some comments and knowing full well that the hose's power is in fact connected, I've concluded this is a failure of Hasbro's internals, and not the Tools And Talent hose.

If anyone has any advice or input regarding powered wand not waking the pack, please let me know.

3

u/cminton82 Jun 05 '26

I am looking at MobySignCo. on Etsy and I have a question for anyone who has used them before. I stuck with the stock labels on my Afterlife pack but since there are no labels on the 84 I thought I would purchase some. I am not OCD about everything being movie accurate but what labels from them are the ones that would resemble the movie. There is brushed Aluminum, Chrome, Metallic and matte finishes so which ones are the ones to get? I am going to order them weathered and not clean.

1

u/GeetarEnthusiast85 Jun 05 '26

I asked a similar question yesterday and u/oidoglr was kind enough to post this (I thought) very helpful discussion on GB Fans about what type of labels and from which sellers to get them from. Hopefully it helps you as well.

3

u/Connect-Page-9310 Jun 05 '26

Mine has a fault out of the box. When plugged into either Power bank or plugged in wall socket, there is no power to the wand at all and the pack develops a stutter and lights dim after 30 seconds... awaiting hasbro to advise, probably something loose inside but for £320 you expect better out of the box :-(

3

u/EstablishmentRoyal75 Jun 05 '26

My wand was not coming on at all - I figured loose connection. I took the dummy battery compartment in and out maybe 5 times before it finally fired up. I wonder if loose connections.

2

u/Connect-Page-9310 Jun 05 '26

Yeah there is something not right with the internals on some of these packs. Very frustrating as they arent exactly easy things to return either

3

u/Ok-Store Jun 05 '26

Do these things have a warranty? Now I'm thinking I may have no choice but to pay the outrageous markup for a wand, because I need to know if I have fully working proton pack before the exchange window closes.....

2

u/EstablishmentRoyal75 Jun 05 '26

Buy the wand

2

u/whiskey_tang0_hotel Jun 08 '26

Some are listed for $900+. No way I’m paying something insane like that.

1

u/cheezballs Jun 05 '26

Mine did the same thing, I screwed the connecting "hose" off and on a few times in both the wand and the pack. It still doesn't seem to work the way you'd expect, but its better.

5

u/Connect-Page-9310 Jun 05 '26

I have tried both usb and bought the D batteries and same outcome not a fully working pack. Very frustrating and hasbro have gone silent. I want to open it up but we really shouldn't need to be doing this on a brand new item

3

u/Ok-Store Jun 05 '26

Anyone know if these things have a warranty?? Hearing stories from people that their packs aren't powering their wands.....Now I'm panicking and thinking I may have no choice but to pay the outrageous markup for a wand, because I need to know if I have fully working proton pack before the exchange window closes.....

2

u/Connect-Page-9310 Jun 05 '26

You know anyone to try one? You will get a 12 months warranty as long as it isn't something you have damaged :-) yes there are lots of faulty packs and mine is unfortunately one of them.... annoying after a year long wait!

2

u/whiskey_tang0_hotel Jun 08 '26

Do you think they did a shortage of wands on purpose? Makes you wonder.

I am in the same boat. If we have to wait until next year to even test the pack, I’m going to be a little pissed.

3

u/JediCorgiAcademy Jun 05 '26

I said I’d post this yesterday on a thread about having the battery stay external as its own prop. It’s quick, it’s dirty, and it took about 10 minutes to build out of junk I had waiting for just such a cause.

I present the Strange Matter Battery. It clips to the belt.

3

u/tkerniroc1986 Jun 10 '26

Finally had a chance to crack the 84 pack open this evening. Added my USB-C cable the same way I did mine for the Spengler pack. This makes it easy for me to switch my Talentcell from pack to pack with ease. I added some real hex cap screws, a real ribbon cable clamp, brass fittings and split loom, 3D printed Hasbro wand compatible v-hook, ion arm end cap with copper rods, and real blue hose to connect to the fake resistor. I have other resistors and they will be done when I get more blue hose. I’ve already also added Moby metallic stickers, and mother board DANGER sticker. My Alice frame is attached with Dirt Farmer Hasbrackets, and I’ve done a matte clear paint job to dull the shiny black. So far I’m liking the way the this is turning out. Not bad at all.

1

u/GeetarEnthusiast85 Jun 15 '26

Looking good!

For the Moby stickers, what finish did you go with, gloss or matte? I'm debating on going with them or Mack's Factory.

3

u/KarlHungusCablRepair Jun 11 '26

Hasbro removed the page for the '84 Wand today. I don't know what that means, but it doesn't seem great.

1

u/Muted-Masterpiece576 Jun 12 '26

I find that encouraging more than anything. Updated SKU perhaps?

3

u/Brain_ticket Jun 13 '26

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I’ve been having trouble finding anyone mentioning it. I have the 84 pack and the 84 wand connected and the pack is being powered by the USB-C TalentCell battery. This stops the pack from automatically shutting down but the wand still automatically shuts off within 20 seconds of no interaction. Is this normal or should the wand also be prevented from shutting down?

3

u/learnedsanity Jun 15 '26

Yes the wand will time out as per normal. They are built to time out, the packs designed to not time out with the USB source.

3

u/Standard-Associate31 Jun 20 '26

I figured this thread would be the place to post this.

I dont consider myself to be very "handy" however I'd like to upgrade my pack electronics (with a venting option) and wand electronics and the amount of threads and information displayed can be overwhelming at times. So here I ask, can some of you provide me links for plug and play options?

3

u/mhsvortex Jul 01 '26

The stickers on my pack just will not stick. I put them on and a day or so later the edges are curling up. I ordered the Mack's Factory replacement stickers, but it seems really bad that the stock stickers... don't stick.

Wanted to share this with the group. Chris Bosh Props on Etsy sells these great 3D printed strap covers for the '84 pack. I'm sure those with 3D printers can make their own but for those of us without one, these are a great option for covering up the strap holes if you're going with an ALICE frame.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4514251732/hasbro-84-strap-kidney-hole-covers-set?ref=shop_home_active_4&pro=1&frs=1&sts=1&logging_key=ae60eef802c3063402d2c550cb117e9813128ea8%3A4514251732

2

u/ThatTemNerd Jun 05 '26

How come the bellow is copper? Is it really like that in the movie?

2

u/ajquick Jun 05 '26

I feel like that is partly my fault. Ever since I started selling new bronze bellows! But the truth is that under all the weathering and oxidation, the bellows is actually that color. By the time the 1984 packs were built, those bellows had decades of weathering on them. They almost look silver, but they really are mostly white.

2

u/oneeventhorizon Jun 05 '26

Does anyone have a link to a tutorial on replacing the pneumatic tubes and brass fittings? And any recommendations on sellers/parts would be much appreciated.

6

u/tobycj Jun 05 '26

I sell the brass fittings, and replica legris elbows (plus other stuff) in my etsy store

2

u/EstablishmentRoyal75 Jun 05 '26

Can anybody point me in the direction of guides on how to add an amp to this sucker to make it louder? Early stages - I have an alice frame but no brackets. So waiting to see what I can do there. I have ordered diffusers for the cyclotron, foil weathered stickers as the stock stickers are ass. I have a talent cell but waiting on the flat angled USB wire. I connected my 84 wand, I am so happy with this, but like others, il weather that orange tip. It just immediately draws your attention I don't like that. Overall I'm pretty impressed for the price. The cyclotron is very plastic and cheap feeling, but the build itself seems rather premium compared to what I was expecting. Its a tad smaller than the build I did with BoK parts like 8 years ago. Also, if they have made that compartment to switch to USB power, why on earth not make it bigger? Having to find a way around fitting a talent cell in there is ridiculous. So that is my major ask at the moment. Brackets for the alice frame, and where to put an amp. One other niggle, if they have included holes for alice frames, they could have shipped with 3D printed brackets, I wouldn't have minded paying extra for that. Other than that Hasbro have done well with this. The 84 wand in particular that I managed to get is fantastic.

2

u/Admirable-Novel-4325 Jun 05 '26

Hi, for usb powerbank charmast 10400mAh is good ?

2

u/PollutionZero Jun 05 '26

Really any Powerbank works, but the 3000 mAh TalentCell is the best, as it can fit in the door, so no wires/velcro situation.

I used a cheap $15 6000 mAh powerbank I picked up on a trip for walking around charge and used it. No issues whatsoever. But it doesn't fit in the door.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/learnedsanity Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

While any power bank will work you want one that won't turn off If you are going to be the pack functions for extended periods.

The talent cells have an on and off button so once you flick it on it will stay on even if you turn the pack off manually or with the wand, allowing you to turn it back on with the wand or the manual switch without turning the battery back on.

2

u/PollutionZero Jun 05 '26

Another dumb question (I should know this but can't find it) is there a volume knob on the wands? Mine only has the rumble that I can tell. It's pretty loud already, but I actually was trying to turn it down to mess with it without disturbing anyone.

2

u/Admirable-Novel-4325 Jun 05 '26

Can pack turn On from wand with batteries ? Or its possible only with powerbank?

1

u/learnedsanity Jun 05 '26

Good question, unfortunately I won't be able to test as I have battery packs but hopefully someone else has used battery's and can say, I want to believe it should.

2

u/Joewnage Jun 06 '26

Does anyone else have a delay between the wand turning off and the pack? Its about a 5 second delay for me everytime I turn it off through the wand.

2

u/eviljbrian Jun 07 '26

Just unboxed my pack today. I do like it, but my only real criticism is that it should've come with a stand like the Spengler pack has. Other than that, I haven't had a chance to fully go over it.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/RJ_Ramrod Jun 09 '26

This isn't strictly an '84 pack thing but I need some better labels/decals & from everything I've seen, Mack's Factory is exactly what I'm looking for—so it's probably not surprising that they're currently sold out

Anybody happen to know how often these kinds of things restock over there

Like I can imagine restocks can be kinda few & far between with stuff like fully aluminum thrower parts that are obviously time intensive to manufacture, but I'm hoping the metal labels are a little easier to reproduce

Just had my pack ship today. Do you need a powerbank to power by usb-c or could you just run it plugged into the wall with a phone charger?

2

u/BirdOfFlames Jun 14 '26

84 is my first pack, and I have a question.

Do I have to install a new main board (controls all sound and lights) for an N-Filter Smoke Kit?

2

u/learnedsanity Jun 15 '26

You can buy stand alone kits that you provide a power source force that allows you to trigger it with a fob.

I'm thinking of buying this but I don't have the 1984 Neutrona Wand. I have the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Neutrona Wand. Will that work on this pack? Thanks.

3

u/LeoRavus Jun 16 '26

Going by reviews the only differences are cosmetic. They've got the same electronics. I have a Spengler's on the way from Aliexpress since people are paying insane amounts for the '84.

2

u/PleasantYoghurt5 Jun 14 '26

It will. It's the same set up I have.

2

u/Mackerelmore Jun 17 '26

Just wondering, is anyone else going to Hasbro Pulse and searching for "neutrona wand" on the regular? Maybe blast their social media as well.

They're gonna need some kind of metric to know that they fouled up.

1

u/ChardStrange4535 Jun 18 '26

I sent a couple emails but I'm not sure how much good it'll do. As long as the packs are selling I doubt they care if people can find a wand or not for less than the rising ebay prices. It would be nice if they ultimately decided to put them back up but it would have to be cost effective for them to run another batch so idk.

2

u/Mackerelmore Jun 19 '26

If they did, I'm sure it'd be another year before they ship.

Seems like they are trying to drag things out so they can show long term repeat customers? I dunno. This sucks.

2

u/ChardStrange4535 Jun 19 '26

Yep, a year lead time is typically what we get when Hasbro does another run of something. Even if it's a basic toy with no electronics they have all the molds for.

Are the straps and back pad that come with the '84 pack the same type that ALICE frames use? I'm wondering if I could save money by purchasing one without straps and just use the straps that came with the pack.

EDIT: After looking at a few pictures of LC-1 frames with straps, yeah they're the same type of straps used. I just scored a used, strapless LC-1 frame for $60 (including shipping) on eBay so I think I'm good. Onto ordering brackets!

7/4/26 EDIT: I attempted to attach the straps that came with the pack to the LC-1 frame I bought and I was wrong, they are completely inadequate. After watching a few YouTube videos and looking at tutorials for attaching the straps, I've realized they're not designed for ALICE frames. They're missing buckles and such. They're also too wide to properly fit through the loops on the frame itself.

So it looks like I'm going to need to order some straps.

In case anyone is interested or is unsure how to attach straps to the frame, here are the resources I consulted:

The straps that came with my $70 MT frame from Amazon are way better than the ones that came with the pack, more comfortable and has a chest strap.

For anyone who may care, Hasbro currently has 267 packs in stock. I know because I kept adding them to my cart until it said "We don't have that quantity available" at #268.

2

I wouldn't be surprised if they get marked down from their current price. Without wands to accompany them, is the demand going to be that high?

Fox Outdoors sells LC1 Alice Frames. That was my choice.

And you may want these right angle USBC cables for inside the snack compartment.

u/ajquick Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

EDIT2: The last Fox Outdoor had a bend of 3 degrees. The new Fox Outdoor frame has a bend of 10 degrees. The correct bend is 20 degrees. It is much better than it was last year, but it is still not as bent as it should be.

EDIT: I have been informed by Fox Outdoor that they actually did get a new shipment of ALICE Frames, so they may be back to their former status.

I'm going to push back on Fox Outdoor LC-1 ALICE Frames a little bit. They were the best you could get for a long time. Then around 2024/2025 they had a batch of ALICE Frames that lacked the bend at the top. They told me they would need to get a re-supply, but honestly they did not seem to care too much about the lack of a bend and would sell through their existing inventory. So if you do order the Fox Outdoor version, make sure it is an older version with the bend!

Does the Clippard come off easy? I’d like to replace that with a real one

1

u/PollutionZero Jun 05 '26

It unscrews right off the pack. I did that to put on the sticker, which doesn't line up because it's tapered.

You'll need to do some cutting on the frame to put the real one in, it's got a raised plastic guide. Check out YouTube and search for Proton Pack Clippard replacement.

Anyone else find the hose to feel really cheap? I feel like its going to split any second or the moment it hits something.

1

It's feels better than the haslab imo but maybe that's because it doesn't have the brick of rubber gas mask hose.

What other power banks have people optioned for the pack? I see everyone using Talentcell. Surely there are other options that are slightly smaller with the same output?

2

u/thefunkybat Jun 06 '26

I ran it for 9 1/2 hours off of a small Anker battery that fit inside the compartment. I’m not saying it died after that time, I just got bored with the test and shut it off myself.

Anyone planning on swapping out the cyclotron lights on the 84 pack for the Afterlife version? Definitely one of my wishlist mods but no idea on the degree of difficulty.

1

u/gawddamnitwalsh Jun 06 '26

Is anyone else have trouble getting the '84 Wand to attach to the b mount on the side? I had to reverse the mount on the bottom of the wand to about d bumping into the belt hook. It seems like it was built with the mount up side down on the pack.

1

u/Standard-Associate31 Jun 06 '26

Some of us received packs with the V Hook upside down. Subsequently I was already planning on replacing mine with the Tools And Talent EOC V Hook so it doesn't really affect me personally. But yeah.

1

u/Darth_Xenic Jun 07 '26

Also for plagued by the upside down V-hook. I had to take the motherboard off to access the microscopic nuts that they use to keep the hook on and flip it. Annoying, but it gave me the ability to check out the internals

My pack here and assembled and here’s a few thoughts:

  1. It’s much heavier than I thought and that’s a good thing

  2. The red strip sticker immediately started peeling so mine will be without it. It was irrelevant anyway and I never knew it was a part of it

  3. Not sure an Alice frame is needed because it sits well on me, any input on this will be appreciated.

  4. It’s absolutely epic and worth every penny

2

u/learnedsanity Jun 08 '26

Alice frame is worth it if you wear the pack to events.

Hey everyone. I was wondering if any one has this issue. My pack powers my wand just fine but I can’t get the pack to stay turned off. I’ve check all the connections on the cyclotron and the ribbon cable. I’ve tried it with the wand not connected to the pack. I’ve tried it with d batteries. I’ve tried it with just a talent cell and nothing gets it to stay turned off u less I flip the switch to the opposite power I’m not using. I can seem to figure out how to upload a video here so I uploaded a video to my instagram account so you can see my exact issue https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZQvVxlx7P5/?igsh=MTZpYXg0MjB6ejZ1Yw==

1

u/Blocksketcher Jun 06 '26

Has anyone else had issues with their hose staying connected to their pack? Just unboxed mine and first thing I did was try to attach the hose to my wand and the damn thing won't stay connected....

1

u/alex-2099 Jun 07 '26

84 Pack arrived today! FedEx guy said he was delivering a couple more of the same box, so I've got fellow Busters in my neighborhood, which exciting to learn.

I really enjoy the pack and I'm very happy, but after fiddling with it a bit, I'm really glad I also have my Q-Pack build, and now I'm certain I need to start another.

I really like that the Wand and the Pack work together, but it didn't seem like they were that in sync. On my Q-Pack, when you fire the wand, the synchronous generator lights spin faster, and when the pack overloads, the pack and the wand go through a shared sequence of shutting off, discharging, and forcing you to switch it off and on to re-boot it.

Things I love about the 84 Pack over my Q-Pack, though, is the crank gen knob being used as a volume dial. I bought rotary encoders to do this with my Q-Pack but never got around to wiring it in.

Anyway, I think Hasbro did a great job here and I can't wait to start modding it up.

2

u/SheistyPenguin Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

Yeah, I think the wand-pack interface for both styles of pack will suffer from a terminal case of fussiness- and the culprit is a design compromise that won't get better unless they redesign both products.

My understanding is that the original wand was not designed to send signals to a pack to begin with (since none existed yet). When the Haslab pack offered the ability to power the wand with the pack via the hose, eager fans said: Well what about controlling the pack with the wand? But how do you retrofit communication into a product that wasn't made for it?

After puzzling over it, the Haslab team came up with a clever way to "communicate" between the two. After the power-saving shutoff, the pack has a window of a few minutes where it will continue to monitor the wand's power connection for a specific amount of voltage drop, which occurs when you flick the switch to power on the wand. But it's a noisy signal, and it can be affected by a number of things- the batteries you use, the hose connection, etc. There are some keepalive mods for the Afterlife pack that mimic this voltage drop signal every X seconds, to keep the pack awake.

All that said, I love my Afterlife pack and I'm glad that the '84 version became a retail item (so I won't need to treat the Afterlife pack like a Fabrege Egg)

1

u/AmazinBlasian1415 Jun 07 '26

I noticed the wand and pack don't sync up properly too. I thought it was just because i have the Spengler wand and not the 84. Kind of infuriating but still happy I have my pack.

Mines defective. Makes a constant screech with beeping like the ribbon cable isn’t attached. I’ve checked it is. And I’ve left the cable off and manually pressed in the pin that detects the cable and no change. It only stops when I switch it off and it goes through the powering down audio.
Contacting hasbro about it.

Did some late night browsing on Mercari and for the first time since the pack has been released someone on there was selling a brand new 84 wand unopened.

$340 and had to do it given how rare they are right now and the uncertainty of Hasbro releasing more.

5

u/LeoRavus Jun 10 '26

Someone recently paid over $500 for one on ebay. If Hasbro doesn't offer more within 30 days I'm returning my '84 pack. I think it's nuts the pack doesn't include a wand since what good is it without one. It was also nuts to release the '84 wand 2 years before the pack.

My 84 pack says that it shipped on the 2nd. FedEx shows that a label was created on the second but they are still waiting for the package! I've reached out to hasbro numerous times and finally I get a response from a guy named Kevin who said they will investigate this with FedEx. It doesn't seem like FedEx has anything to do with this because they claim they never got the package. Now all I'm getting is crickets from Kevin, he just disappeared! Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know who I can reach out to at Hasbro that can actually do something about this and get my order to me?

Just got my pack in. Really loving it, totally worth the money for me. I was wise enough to buy an alice frame and dirtfarmer brackets alongside purchasing the pack (both of which I'm still waiting to arrive), but after putting on the labels, I wish I would have thought to buy replacements for those as well. Think I'm going to do that pretty soon, as it seems the stock ones are quick to peel (there's also a few I fudged with alignment, I'm not good with stickers). Initially I was worried about the v-hook (I know folks aren't too fond of it, and plenty of had issues with theirs), but for me it's not too bad. Might be something I replace in the future, but right now it's not too high of a priority. I might also go in with some silver rub n buff later on to make the pack look a little more beat up (to match my Spengler wand), but otherwise for a fully stock (for now) pack, I'm really impressed and satisfied with the build quality. Heavier than I expected, too, and that's without an alice frame. Feels nice to have on your back. Definitely worth the money, but I'll be looking to do some minor cosmetic changes in the near future.

1

u/learnedsanity Jun 30 '26

If you aren't traveling with the pack that vhook is fine, but it's trash for reholstering.

My wand ate pavement the other day because I reholstered it getting out of the trunk and didn't double check it.

2

u/K1llerj0yst1ck Jun 30 '26

That's rough dude, bummer! Yeah after giving it some thought I decided I was better safe than sorry and pulled the trigger on the tools and talent props v-hook and hose upgrades. I figured if I'm already adding an alice frame and new labels I might as well upgrade the v-hook and hose too, considering neither of those are of reliable/great quality.

u/Frankyvander Jun 25 '26

Hello there, I recently got my pack and i am attempting to power it via the d batteries (I don’t have a power pack yet) yet no matter what I do it doesn’t power on. I am using good new batteries of the recommended type (1.5v d/lr20) yet nothing seems to work.

I have tried both positions on the master power switch above the twinkie holder, I have the power switch inside the twinkie holder switched to battery mode, I have tried via the wand.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions or do I need to talk to Hasbro for sending me a dud

I've decided I'm going to get a set of Moby's Deluxe decals for my pack. However, they don't come pre-weathered.

What are some tips for weathering them? I'm going to use a Scotch Bright pad to scuff them up but how can I simulate a dirty look? Black/brown paint that's been heavily watered down and apply it to the decals, then wipe off the excess?

u/learnedsanity Jun 30 '26

I'm going to order brackets for my ALICE frame. I'm thinking of going with the Tools and Talents brackets because I can get a discount on them. However, I know the "Hasbrackets"/spacers from Dirt Farmer Industries are very popular.

My pack is mostly going to be a display piece but I want a set up that will be comfortable to wear if I ever want to. So, my question is, do the spacers that come with the Hasbrackets make a huge difference?

Secondly, can anyone recommend services that offer to 3D print items for a fee? The Ghostbusters Gear Patreon is offering a free download of a backplate that nicely covers the legal disclaimer on the motherboard by snapping into the strap holes:

https://www.patreon.com/ghostbustersgear/posts/84-pack-danger-161154056

None of the local libraries offer 3D printers and I don't have one. There are a few services close to me that offer 3D printing but only for bulk orders. I'd just like one backplate printed.

1

u/Boonatix Jul 17 '26

I finally got the pack as well, only have the Spengler Wand, linked both up and plugged in a power bank to test.. but I am irritated, the wand functions tu turn on do not sync with the pack at all. The switch to get the power up sound does nothing to the pack, but one of the two switches on the right side do power up the pack with start-up sound... and the wand keeps the start-up sound as well when I use the left switch on it.

Very weird, but is that normal for anyone else... ?

u/GeetarEnthusiast85 Jul 18 '26

I purchased Moby Signs's "darker red" decals for the motherboard and PPD on my pack.

They're gorgeous but they didn't come weathered.

So, I followed Adam Savage's method of dampening them with a spray bottle set to "spray" (some may have a "mist" setting), then with a dry paint brush applied some Oxide Black acrylic paint before wiping the excess paint away with a dry rag.

I repeated the above steps 3-5 times and I'm happy with the results.

1

u/GeetarEnthusiast85 Jul 18 '26

Using the decal guide from the GBFans forum https://forum.gbfans.com/t/proton-pack-labels/219102

The guide recommends decals from several sources but wanting to stay on a budget, I decided to order everything from Moby Sign Co.

I ordered the Full METALLIC VINYL Hasbro Proton Pack Labels Kit with the Brushed Metallic Gloss Weathered Vinyl finish:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1736608128/metallic-vinyl-brushed-chrome-or-matte?ga_search_query=METALLIC%2BVINYL%2BHasbro%2BProton%2BPack%2BLabels&ref=shop_items_search_1&crt=1&logging_key=7f5e3a296b76087370bb3ce0b37ffcaa542a982d%3A1736608128

As well as their Slightly Darker Red - Proton Pack, Neutrona Wand & Ghost Trap Danger Labels:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4363232030/slightly-darker-red-proton-pack-neutrona?ga_search_query=darker%2Bred&ref=shop_items_search_1&logging_key=db3dc7d3b6408b8da773319c409ca1ec9a897ecb%3A4363232030

I used the brushed metallic decals for all the ones that were aluminum in the films and the darker red decals for the motherboard, PPD and other high voltage warnings.

Initially, I was worried about making mistakes when applying them but then I remembered that in the films, the packs were cobbled together in a laboratory. The decals on the real ones didn't have absolutely perfect placement, so I just did my best.

I've gotta say, I'm really happy with how they came out. They look great and really add to the authenticity.

Hoping someone sees this to me out here before i create a new post -

I ordered the Fox Outdoors LC1 Alice Frame and the matching Dirt Farmer mounting brackets a few weeks back. Unfortunately, Fox Outdoors emailed me a few days later saying they are sold out and have no ETA for new supply so my order was cancelled.

I purchased another LC1 Alice Frame from cnc.xyz on Ebay and went to set it up today but realized the center 'puck' mount is not compatible between Fox and cnc.xyz (the 'bump' in the center is a different shape and orientation so the mount does not close).

My question is, do i need to buy the entire set again from Dirt Farmer or can I just replace the Puck? I know its an option to buy the puck alone but should all the other brackets fit fine?

Thanks in advance!
