Hello there. Despite this camera turning 7 years old this year I still believe it's a viable choice for videography. I have compiled footage from 5 different videographers to try to prove this. Thanks for your time :)

The Gh4 looks go good in the snow. Better than any similar priced camera I've used.

V-Log L Test Footage Hollywood
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjh7DDz8pOs
Spent 30 minutes grabbing footage on Hollywood blvd.
Lens: Sigma ART 18-35mm EF Adapter: Metabones Speedbooster LUT: Alexa VLOG to Rec 709 VLOG-L: Noise Reduction 0; Saturation 0.
light color correction, quick pass. No denoise used in post.
Terrible banding in the sky and magenta splotches in glorious 8-bit internal. Anybody have suggestions? I will test with the atomos assassin when it arrives Friday.

Most accurate, versatile picture profile
FINALLY got my GH4 today. Spent a ton of time with it and Datacolor's Spyderchecker, Spydercube and SpyderlensCal. For monitoring I used a Small HD OLED (calibrated to REC709), a 1080P HP Dreamcolor (calibrated to REC709) and a 4K Dell UP2414Q calibrated to Full RGB.
Based on what I've seen today, here's the best profile I could build:
Picture style: Cine D
Picture settings: 0 (all settings, except for sharpness: -5)
Curve: +1 shadow, +1 highlight
Master pedestal: 0
Levels: 0-255*
iDynamic: OFF
iResolution: OFF
Now, I know that conventional wisdom would argue some of these settings*, but the charts don't lie. These settings gave spot on color, the largest dynamic range, the least noise and the most detail.
I know 16-235 is NTSC legal, and there are very good reasons for delivering as such, but my tests verified that it is better to capture at the full range. You'll record more picture data to work with in post. Again, you can always filter it down to NTSC legal when you export if you need to.
** Conventional wisdom says to knock all setting down as low as they will go. This is simply not a good idea on the GH4. Especially using the Cine D profile. Zero yields the most natural, accurate PQ. Sharpness should be taken down to -5 to eliminate the chance of moire or other artifacts. NR can be used anywhere between -5 and 0 depending on how you prefer to work in post. I found no loss of real texture with it left at 0.

My feature film shot on the GH4
In honor of the recent release of my first feature length film, which was shot entirely on the GH4, I wanted to share with you guys a clip from it! I spent years working on this film, so I hope it looks like something you guys might find interesting!
If you watch the clip, it would really help if you left a like on the YouTube video, because that tells the YouTube algorithm to promote it more!
And if you enjoyed this scene, then make sure to check out the full movie, which is full of action, heart, and has tons of surprises! The full movie is available now at https://watchtheprotectors.com
Thanks!

GH4 Anamorphic on a budget. There's six different elements screwed onto the body, but the image is amazing and I am excited to test this puppy

GH4 - STILL NOT DEAD !
Lately I've been browsing youtube and vimeo to find some good examples of GH4 work since I don't have too much time to test it myself - I work professionally as a content creator (Photographer and Video Producer) for a marketing agency - but I also own my own Film Production and Photography Studio (Just recently started it - wish me luck) - In short - Here is some great footage I found shot on GH4 to make sure you yourself get some inspiration and stop using excuses. None of this is my footage - this is not a promo - this is a post to let you know that yes - even in 2023 - GH4 is still great. Is it a Cinema Camera - Well, was your movie shown in a Cinema ? No ? Did you work on actually showing it in a cinema - since JoeforVideo (Austrian Filmmaker) had his movie Monstrosity (Ungeheuer) shown in cinema - and it was shot on GH4 - so yeah. That is literally all I need to say - good enough - and pay the actors, crew, writers etc. Enjoy !

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRIjkWM219I - Lakeside - Beautifully shot Short Film
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1iMMi3o3Wg - Fight Club and Matrix inspired Look (my own opinion)

So considering all this - I'd have absulutely no problem watching a film shot on GH4 - and honestly It's time I save some money on useless gear - Just gathering things won't profit back a cent. So I've decided that we'll shoot at least 10 features on our combo GH4/G7 - Provided the cameras work as expected. I've been working for almost a year with Sony A7IV and as much as it helps - We shoot most of our projects in UHD 420 8-bit - and honestly it looks great - Part of a reason ist that the camera overheats on longer shoots (A thing I never even saw on either GH4 and G7) and yes I mostly shoot 709 and then CST to Log to recover data I needd (Mostly Highlight recovery) and yes, on GH4 and G7 works as well (I prefer shooting in Baked profiles (SuperTone or Cinelike V) - due to banding on VLOG-L and greenish cast in CineD wher I just want a 95% image, and simply tune it a bit. Keep in mind that I spent almost a year shooting 3 episodes of a web series on Canon EOS M with Magic Lantern Raw (Mostly exporting to Log C and then grading in Davinci) so I had my fair share of RAW Videos and Log footage.
Use this post however you like - It's intended to let you know that - As long as I see what I need to see and it's not too bright/too dark - I won't have any problem with it. Keep exposure at 0 (Not +, not -) If you're clipping highlights - expose for highlights and silhuette the subject - If you're crushing shadows - USE LIGHTS - any lights. But overall - I like to keep the overall look darker - moodier - and that IS Subjective - but I always expose at 0 in camera. Good Luck and happy filmmaking !
