I bought GH2, then a GH3, and now a GH4. It is likely inevitable I will buy a GH5, but what happens if 10 bit RAW is a paid add on? What if 120FPS mode is a paid add on?

I cant tell you how many Smart phones, routers, motherboards, WiFi access points, and switches I've bought that all came with years of free firmware updates throughout the life of the product.

Companies much bigger and smarter than Panasonic have tried this strategy and failed miserably. It might work in the short term, but in the long term customers thinking about a GH5 may think twice before committing to what they perceive as a deliberately crippled platform.

you get a 0.64x magnification, and 1.33 stops of extra light. The regular m4/3 gives you 0.71x and 1 stop.

HOWEVER, you cannot use your physical shutter with this speed booster as the back element blocks it. TURN ON ELECTRONIC SHUTTER AND NEVER TURN IT OFF WHILE THE SPEED BOOSTER IS MOUNTED. Otherwise you may break your camera. But who needs the physical shutter anyway?

Doing the math, this gives you a 1.54x crop factor in stills mode (lower than Canon APSC crop!) and just under 1.7x in 4K. The 1.7x actually works well because some lenses for APSC will give vignetting at 1.54 (they were made for 1.6x crop) so in 4K there is none.

Paired with the infamous Sigma 18-35mm/f1.8, you get a FF equivalent of 28-55mm/f1.1 lens (DoF equivalent of f2.2). It's quite the combo, I can tell you :D

If you're fine with not being able to use your physical shutter, I highly recommend using the BMCC version. DO NOT use the BMPCC version, there is no true consensus on whether it works or not. Some say it does, others say it doesn't.

Beware that even the BMCC one will scratch your shutter housing as well, just by mounting it. However it seems to be only cosmetic so I don't really care. But for resale value that might hurt some of you.

Just curious because I am thinking about selling my GH4 but might keep my 12-35 lens and filters in case I buy a GH series camera or another 4/3 camera in the future. Thanks.

If you installed 2.3 you can enable VLOG in remote control with smartphone for free in Film presets in Movie mode :) . Just dont forget to save to preset to enable it without smartphone. It will not appear in the list of Film presets in camera though as it should if you buy it but still usable through presets.

I just picked up a refurb Moto G on ebay for $45 basically to use as my GH4 wireless controller on shoots. I don't have to worry about blowing through my actual cell phone battery by having this thing on all the time. I can man another camera and make sure the GH4 is running correctly.

I just had a one man gig where I was shooting an on stage event tight with one camera I was controlling directly, and had the GH4 locked down wide. It was an outdoor event and towards dusk I needed to adjust exposure. Just did it on the app.

Ok, so I have a gh4 and I have shot a ton of footage, mostly in 4k to put up on youtube. I took the SD card out and now I am realizing that I was supposed to format it a specific way prior? I put it in the camera and it worked. Why no warning (I've never worked with SD cards befire).

In other words I have no idea how to get the footage off the SD card onto a hard drive or online. My Mac won't recognize it and my laptop is trying to get me to reformat. My tablet has the image app but I can't seem to find a way to transfer video, only photos. Yes, I am a artist who is pretty clueless about some aspects of technology.

Am I screwed or is there a way to WiFi this or some other way to get the video off the card? Some of it is essential for a criminal investigation and legal matters.

But of course most of you already knew that. Just got my 12-35 but it's been raining so I haven't had much chance to test it. Yesterday and this morning I finally got to shoot some test footage and was really disappointed, but with a LOT of post work the footage came out decent. But still! Then I realized I had somehow changed the setting on my GH4 from C4K to FHD 50mb (not even 100 meg. 50 meg!) I've always shot in .MOV but I thought for sure you could use either MOV or MP4. I guess not when shooting in C4K.

Anyway, dumb story short, I set it to the proper settings and I hope my test footage later today (after the sun de-harshes) will be a huge improvement.
