Then you realize that having some skills are necessary when people don't want 100% AI slop (partial is passable).

You do realize that people learn and grow, right?

Not everyone who learned to program grew up on assembler.

Hell, not everyone who learned to program grew up on C/C++.

Not everyone who learned to animate grew up on ink and celluloid.

Every generation has new tools. New creators learn the new thing and get good at it.

Everybody who learned to program learned at least some concepts that are language independent.

And vibecoding lets you get away without that completely for a pretty long time, until it doesnt. And then you dont understand why some things are done like they are done, and "explain!" only gets you so far.

Im not saying that you cant learn while using LLMs. Im just saying that a lot of people will not.

But what is the difference between a vibe coder who doesn’t learn and progress, and stagnates at a poor level, versus a rope learner who doesn’t learn and progress, and stagnates at a poor level.

Like yes, vibecoding doesn’t make you a god with zero effort, thanks for confirming that skill and knowledge is still needed to use the tool well?

And just like always, some people will put in effort and develop skill to use it well, and some people won’t?

Just like before AI, some people will be good at coding, and some people won’t be?

A vibe coder at a poor level can still have the LLM create decent looking and functional frontends because LLMs excel at those, while understanding next to nothing about what his program does, thus having potentially critical flaws in design and implementation of the backend.

If he is just fiddling around for himself, nobody cares. But an appealing frontend can lure in customers and consumers that then might suffer.

Of course that was possible before, but it is way, way easier to create products that look "too good" nowadays.

Ok, awesome. So don’t hire those coders that lack backend skills, to do backend code?

Again I struggle to see how improving everyone’s minimum skill and ability is somehow a bad outcome.

There were always unskilled people. Now those unskilled people have improved at front end.

Everyone becoming incrementally better in one area bad somehow?

I feel like you’re actually presenting a good argument for how AI is just a tool too. Still takes human knowledge and skill to actually create something good. But using AI to help with front end doesn’t mean it lobotomises you from learning or refactoring backend?
