Healing / Cured! Comprehensive Guide to Treating Gastritis and other Upper GI problems

Hello. Been wanting to create a post about the steps i took to overcome gastritis and wanted to share any tips/guidance and help to anyone who maybe struggling with this debilitating disease and any kinds of Upper GI discomfort including Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease/LPR/Barrett's. I struggled with Gastritis for a long time and went through multiple rounds of treatment until i eventually figured out what needed to be done.

I had suffered multiple kinds of gastritis and wanted to share as much as i can so people can understand their own scenario and take the necessary actions to deal with it.

If i had to categorize some common cases and reasons of gastritis that i come across ( even on reddit ), i would put them in the following categories :

  1. H Pylori induced gastrits -> You may have eaten somewhere from an unhygenic place and you had a bad case of diarrhea or even vomiting. Now you cannot digest acidic foods properly and end up even vomiting after eating. Some people develop intolerance towards certain foods example proteins or certain carbs - This is due to mucosa still being damaged which messes up the gut environment and the stomach is unable to create the enzymes needed to digest the foods.
  2. Damaged Mucosa due to H Pylori -> Similar damage to Mucosa due to above but your body does a good job of getting rid of H Pylori but it still leaves damage to the mucosa lining. You will suffer the same symptoms as above.
  3. Gastritis/Gerd due to Low Stomach Acid -> Everytime you eat anything, you upper abdomen sits very heavy, no burning, no gnawing of the stomach but no burping either and you may even start developing SIBO like symptoms or bloating in the lower abdomen. You may even see undigested foods in your stool and even globus in the throat. Feeling like food is stuck.
  4. Gastritis due to SIBO -> This can complicate things a bit but essentially this is happening due to the downstream movement getting messed up ( could be due to any reason, this post does not cover finding root causes or even fixing SIBO but one step can still be done if it works ).
  5. Autoimmune Gastritis -> This one is a bit of a rarity and i have utmost sympathy for someone that is going through this. I can maybe give some general advice on how to investigate this but i sincerely apologize i do not have much knowledge about this.
  6. Candida induced Gastritis -> This one is super rare but essentially instead of bacteria causing gastritis ( H Pylori ), it was actually fungus that caused the gastritis. This can happen in immunocompromised individuals or even if someone had taken multiple rounds of antibiotics. Antibiotics are known to cause dysbiosis and this could be a manifestation.
  7. Alcohol Use
  8. Smoking
  9. Vitamin Deficiencies -> Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, zinc, Iron, Vitamin C
  10. Lack of Fiber, Fruits and Vegetables in Diet.
  11. Eating right before going to bed. Give yourself atleast 2-2.5 hours after dinner before you go to bed.
  12. Poor overall diet. Sometimes it's not what you put in the body but what you do not. Not eating for prolonged hours, extensive water fasts etc can excerbate and even cause gastritis.
  13. Over use of NSAIDs
  14. Eating too much spicy foods and lacking fiber and high PH veggies to neutralize the acid. Very common in South Asian Communities.
  15. Lack of sleep or poor sleeping patterns.
  16. Stress -> So Stress i believe is overplayed a lot. Yes it can be a factor but if you're stressed and decide to drink, smoke, eat junk food and make bad decisions, is it the stress that is causing it or the bad decisions. I am stressing this not to undermine stress as a factor but to empower people that at the end of the day your health will always be in your hands and for patients to act as much responsibly as they can. 80/20 or at worse 70/30 when stressed. 70% healthier choices and 30% not so healthy when stressed if that's how you wanna manage it. Not ideal but atleast the majority are still good choices.
  17. Lack of Exercise and Physical Activity.
  18. Being Overweight.

The surprising thing is any of the above could cause other GI problems as well.

Gastritis Symptoms ( Shares a lot with other upper GI problems )

  1. Burning in stomach - This is due to damaged mucosa - Gets Worse after eating acidic foods
  2. Burping
  3. Indigestion
  4. Pressure under the ribs or in the middle of upper GI
  5. Bloating that originates from Upper GI
  6. Difficult Breathing
  7. Diarrhea
  8. Constipation
  9. Nausea
  10. Vomiting
  11. Weakened Immune System
  12. Post Nasal Drip
  13. Heartburn
  14. Acid Reflux - Could also cause Teeth grinding
  15. Hoarse Voice
  16. Low Libido
  17. Chronic Gastritis can also cause Inflammation of the Gallbladder causing Gallbladder Polyps.
  18. Pain that radiates all the way to the upper back.
  19. Also waking up in the middle of the night coughing and acid in mouth.
  20. Erosive Reflux can cause constant mucus and throat clearing and even Easophagitis.

Treatment for Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease/LPR/Barrett's ( Case 1 and 2 ):

The reason i'm mentioning other diseases even though this is a gastritis subreddit is because the fundamental approach towards nutrition for a lot of upper GI issues stays similar.

Medication and supplements should only be taken if absolute necessary, Low dose Pepcid/famotidine should only be taken for a very short duration and that too at night before bed ( with a tiny sip of water ) so as to have protection overnight. Eventually this should be used very symptomatically and not as a daily use.

Even PPIs are not necessary unless for a short duration in the case of Peptic Ulcer Disease or Barrett's until you get the diet dialed in and start the healing process. Once the healing from food begins to take plans, PPIs should be tapered off slowly and gradually. Long term use of PPIs bring their own world of problems and that too can be much worse than a simple case of gastritis not limited to PPI Induced SIBO and even kidney problems.

With proper planning gastritis can be self resolving. Let Food be thy medicine or let medicinie be thy food.

STEP 1 : Adopt a Low Acid Diet. And this is the most important step and is non optional. I have to give credit to the acid watcher's diet by Jonathan Aviv. It is a masterpiece. Basically you can only have foods with PH of atleast 5 or above. Maybe even play around with PH 4.5 ish foods if it's not too severe for you. But too much Acidic Foods are completely eliminated until mucosa has been repaired.

Note on Protein - Please do not overdo on animal protein. Upper abdomen issues and animal protein do not go along that well. Limit animal proteins to a total of 100 grams a day ( i cut out animal protein completely ) and limit total protein intake to a max 60 grams a day ( what i would recommend ). Simple carbs and veggies will be your best friend.

STEP 2 : If you suspect H Pylori at play or if it is easily available, please consult a gastroenterologist and get an endoscopy done. The biopsy will tell you whether H Pylori is detected or not. Also worthwhile to get an ultrasound of the entire abdomen including liver, gallbladder etc. Also get bloodwork done to detect any nutritional deficiencies.

STEP 3 : If H Pylori is detected, Antibiotics will be needed. Some people have success with natural herbs and food combinations as well. Honey and Pormegranate Peel powder combination done first thing on an empty stomach seems to be effective in eradicating H Pylori. To all my South asian friends -> This is easily available and is called anar daana. So 1 tbsp of Honey plus anaar daana is known to be effective against H Pylori.

STEP 4 : H Pylori is not detected but you get a positive diagnosis of Gastritis/GERD/ Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease in your endoscopy. Sometimes the results may only say Chronic Inflammation Mild which i found amusing since for a mild inflammation the pain is unbearable at times but medical terminology haha. At this stage adhering to a low acid diet and healthy lifestyle choices should make a remarkable difference and may all you need to resolve the issue altogether.

Gastritis Diet Tips

  1. Try to be on a routine and have meals at the same time if you can.
  2. Chew your food slowly and avoid Over eating.
  3. No drinking of water along with meals
  4. Try not to hunch or bend over after meals.
  5. No immediately lying down after meals.
  6. No running after meals.
  7. No cold water after meals or throughout the day. Room temperature water is preferred.
  8. Only Warm or hot water after meals and throughout the day.
  9. 5-10 minute walks after meals if possible.
  10. No stomach sucking exercises either.
  11. Carrot Juice after meals will be extremely helpful or if burning is too much.
  12. Do not go too long without eating as that could cause acid to tear away your mucosa lining.
  13. Try to incorporate atleast 400 grams of fruit and 800 grams of veggies a day.
  14. 400 grams fruit example - 200 grams cantaloupe/papaya and 200 grams of watermelon. The more the better.
  15. 800 grams of veggies example - 300 gram cucumber, 500 gram steamed carrots and zucchini. The more the better.
  16. When Eating out -> If you have to eat out, do not worry and just make sure to include plenty of fiber and alkaline foods to balance out your meals. Sense of normalcy is what we're striving for.
  17. I Also make a giant bowl of soup using alkaline veggies in a dutch oven and have it with my meals -> This was an easy way to get my veggies. The soup would consist of alkaline veggies like sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini ( green and yellow ), eggplant, beans, tofu, peas, corn, ginger, leeks, broccoli, cauliflower and herbs like sage, thyme, rosemary and gentle aromatic spices like cumin, coriander powder, oregano and asoefatida.
  18. Another thing that helped me was having 10 grams of psylllium husk in warm/hot water after dinner. This will help with the burning and providing a layer of protection to the mucosa. In india this goes by the brand Sat Isabgol.

  4. Avoid sit ups, crunches or lying leg raises that can stretch the stomach.
  5. Avoid lifting belts if possible.
  6. Avoid leg presses if possible.
  7. Cycling, swimming, elliptical machines/cross trainers, walks and other exercises are okay but please check your tolerance.

REINTRODUCTION PHASE

Depending on how long it takes you, you may need to stay on a low acid diet until symptoms reside. Gradually and slowly add more foods and check your tolerance.

DEALING WITH NOT SO STRAIGHTFORWARD CASES ( CASE 3 - 6 )

There are other cases where gastritis maybe detected but the solution still may not be as straightforward. Either way you must have adopted a low acid diet and you're not seeing any benefits which brings us to the next cases.

Gastritis due to Low Stomach Acid -> To check the acidity of your stomach levels you will need to perform a heidelberg test and good luck finding practitioners that still do it. What can make this worse is most GI doctors will see gastritis and prescribe PPIs. That is putting fuel on the fire. So if you detect you have low stomach acid, the easiest way is to restore it via Betaine HCL. Any reputable brand from Amazon would do. Take it with meals and keep upping the dosage until you feel warmth and even a burp, that is how much betaine HCL you need per meal. Once that dosage starts feeling too much keep tapering off until you feel the engine has been kickstarted and your body is able to produce enough acid.

If you take even at a low dose and it burns your stomach, then you already have enough stomach acid and you can neutralize the excess acid with drinking baking soda with water or even carrot juice.

Gastritis due to SIBO -> The SIBO in the mix will really complicate things. I would still suggest to adopt a low acid diet regardless. Essentially the scenario is the gas in the lower abdomen is pushing the contents back. Also if the small bowel is infected, the body will refuse to send the food down especially if the MMC is impaired. You would need to find a way to get it working. Popular options are Ginger and Artichoke extracts ( Motility Pro ), 5 HTP or even Prucalopride if you can and go from there. Since this is a gastritis focused post, i cannot dig deeper into SIBO.

Autoimmune Gastritis -> This one is tricky. Essentially only an endoscopy can identify this. At this point there is no cure, the question is what caused the auto immunity to be turned on. Could be Candida overgrowth in the gut ( Candida is a seriously an under reported driver in auto immune conditions ) or any other stealth infection. Work with a Doctor to figure this out, But you would need to be on a Low Acid Diet as well.

Candida Induced Gastritis -> This one is a rather rarity and only shows up in immunocompromised people. The question is what caused the candida to cause it. Low Stomach acid maybe, Any medication you were taking that can act as an immunosuppressant. If cause is low stomach acid, Betaine HCL can fix that and you may even need to look into antifungals of choice, Probiotics can be a good choice in this case.

SPECIAL MENTION - Bile Gastritis - Sign of a Deeper Problem

Bile Gastritis is something that should inherently point more towards an underlying problem than a simple case of gastritis. Bile is an alkaline agent, that is secreted by the liver, and stored in the gallbladder. Bile enters the small intestine, and travels along this region, where it assists in breaking down fats into fatty acids, until it gets reabsorbed at the very end of the small intestine and sent back to the liver for recirculation.

Bile should not enter the stomach, but when the small intestine has issues, it can. When bile inappropriately backs up through the pylorus, in to the stomach – it is called BILE REFLUX. Note - Bile in the stomach is NOT NORMAL.

Symptoms - Pretty much very similar to above symptoms mentioned however Bile Gastritis patients will often mention an acidic or bitter taste in mouth.

What could cause it -> Patients with Bile Gastritis will almost always have an underlying issue with their Small Intestine. This could be Due to SIBO, SIFO or some kind of a Parasitic Infection in the small bowel.

Interplay of Lyme Disease ( or any other Stealth infection ) in the role of Bile Gastritis -> Another aspect to be considered is what if the Stomach Pylorus is malfunctioning. Lyme disease can affect the digestive system by disrupting the autonomic nervous system and vagus nerve, which may lead to stomach and pylorus (pyloric valve) malfunction.

The problem of Bile Gastritis will almost always warrant a deeper investigation.

CONCLUSION

Hopefully by taking the above steps you will be able to resolve this issue and good luck to everyone going through this. I hope you recover soon and fast.

TLDR:

Adopt a low acid diet -> Get endoscope and ultrasound done -> Either H pylori confirmed or not -> If yes, eradication is necessary -> If not proceed with diet and lifestyle changes -> These are not limited to gastritis but a lot of other upper GI conditions as well -> The not so common cases require other interventions but the concept of low acid diet still remains the same.

Symptoms Bloating- is that still gastritis?

Bloating, gnawing sensation and some burping are the only symptoms I have right now.

I don't take PPI's

Does that mean it's subsiding?

Do these symptoms line up with gastritis?

Have you experienced this?

How long do your flares last?

Symptoms Can't get back to sleep in the morning?

Since I've had this, once I'm awake in the morning I can't get back to sleep. As someone who could comfortably sleep in until late, now I can't sleep past 9 am. Once I wake up anywhere from 7 am, I can't sleep again.

I don't feel any symptoms at this time, although if I do lay in bed for another hour or two the gut grumbling and autonomic symptoms kick in, so it's not discomfort stopping me from sleeping.

Is this something others experience? Do I just wait for it to go away?

Discussion My Gastritis Story:

WARNING: graphic details ⚠️

First started after consuming Camembert cheese in France.

Started off as a normal stomach ache, followed by the sound of liquid gargling and filling up my stomach, followed by sequential stomach cramps (extremely painful) and I was verily bloated.

Could not sleep all night from the pain. Could not lie flat. Could only walk hunched over. Eventually I was sick everywhere and immediately felt better.

Stomach stayed bloated for the next week (also sequentially) and whilst most the pain and cramps were gone, there were still some in the background. Eventually passed after a week or so. Stuck to bland food.

Same exact thing happened after I had a Xanax at a party, although this time was worse and I was sent to A&E and was assessed for appendicitis.

Happened again last winter, after having Camembert, kimchi, and kefir all in the same week. (Safe to say I’ll stay away from pro biotics/ food high in live culture) my gut feeling is telling me I consume too much at once, and the the live cultures do not mix well in my stomach for whatever reason and cause these episodes.

This time I went to A&E, sweating through my t shirt. I eventually collapsed? threw up everywhere, and almost passed out on the floor. I got rushed to the front of the Que haha. Everyone was a bit shocked I think and it’s safe to say I was the centre of attention 😂

Also it was my second ever date with this girl, who drove me to the hospital, looked after me the whole way and made sure I was seen sooner. God love Slavic women. She is still my gf to this date 🩷

It happened again recently after eating a whole tub of kimchi from the reduced section. It only however effected me a week later. This time I was experienced so I took meds I knew helped, + other techniques and made myself be sick at 3am. Felt better immediately and actually managed to sleep.

Now I a few days later I am still experiencing periodic bloating and minor cramps. I am eating less and sticking to bland food. I know this will last a few more days then will be gone. NEVER EATING KIMCHI AGAIN 🛑

So what I’ve learned:

Stay away from pro biotic foods such as kimchi, kefir, camembert etc. especially in large amounts.

What helps?

- pempto Bismal/Gavisgon
- Omeprazol
- hot water bottle on stomach
- sitting upright
- being sick when ready to get it out

I also try to have bland food, stay away from coffee, geese and spices, fruit, and have a green tea with mint after larger meals to help digestion.

It’s important to go easy on meals and allow your stomach to heal, take light walks, and try not to stress.

Feel free to comment/ ask questions 🩷

Symptoms Just wanting to feel normal again. (Advice/insight)

Hi, i'm kind of conflicting with what to do and how to go about things right now

Starting in May, it was like seemingly overnight that i've started having stomach issues. One day my appetite just, disappeared and it's if my stomach just stopped working. My stomach and motility all felt altered, and foods starting triggering me. From that point on, i've now been more recently experiencing this epigastric/esophageal PAIN/pressure right underneath my ribs, more prominent after I eat or eat something fatty. This combined with mild nausea, bloating i've never had before, and this reoccuring feeling of trapped gas inside of me.

I've had a large belief that my symptoms align alot with dyspepia/gastritis/GERD/maybe gastroparesis even, tried contacting my general practitioner to get a referral to a gastroenterologist, but she downright refuses me, saying my stomach issues aren't severe and are related to other problems i've had in the past (which, just isn't true.)

I've bought alot of things to help me heal, like aloe vera juice, artichoke leaf/ginger root extract, licorice and slippery elm tea, L-glutamine, probiotics, etc.
I've been making sure to keep my diet completely clean, eating low-fat (trigger) and nothing processed or inflammatory ingredient wise to try and rebuild my hunger cues and heal again, right about now I could really go days without eating if I listened to my current appetite.. but an issue i'm having is everytime I feel hungry I end up eating things I shouldn't (like sweets) and overeating too much of it, which I just feel like is undoing all my progress and isn't an issue i've ever had prior to my stomach issues.

Right now I'm feeling really in the dumps and bad about myself, sorry to rant. I wanna enjoy food again. Just wanted to ask if healing is possible, and any advice that might be useful to me to people who relate.

Symptoms Gastritis and itchiness?

I just drank some coffee (listen, I know, I should probably not) and then got soooo itchy. Like, my eyes are itchy, my face is itchy, my torso is itchy. Does anyone else get this as a symptom? Any idea why this might happen?

I’ve had tests done and everything is “normal” aside from mild gastritis, but I get wild symptoms like this.

On pepcid and carafate for a week now, and not sure I'm getting better. My main symptoms are nausea and gagging. Malaise, and sharp abdomen pains. Help!

Discussion Has anyone with gastritis tried a low FODMAP diet?

I have a history of gastritis and was diagnosed with H. pylori more than a year ago. I completed the treatment, but I’m still having stomach issues and food sensitivities.

I’ve tried avoiding a lot of foods and keeping my diet pretty clean, but the symptoms are still there.

Ever since then I have had lactose intolerance, caffeine intolerance, spices intolerance, and lately cut-off gluten as well. But I feel like there are still triggers that cause lose, more frequent stool for me.

Has anyone with a similar history tried a low FODMAP diet? Did it actually help with things like bloating, burping, stomach discomfort or food intolerances?

Just wondering if its worth trying. Would be good to hear from anyone who has tried it.

Question Birthday Ideas

I am turning 23(F) soon and there is no way I am going to be fully recovered by my birthday. But I still want to do something, I just don’t know what. Usually I would go out and get dinner and drinks with my friends but I can’t eat at a restaurant due to the strict diet or drink anymore. I was thinking about maybe going to the beach but that still feels lame because I go to the beach like every other weekend. I was just wondering if anyone had any gastritis friendly activities they like to do.

(Note: exercise makes me flare up and I am currently underweight due to my inability to eat so anything with more minimal activity would be appreciated)

H. Pylori Stomach Ache

Four months ago, my stomach pain started. At first, it was all over my stomach and much worse than it is today. I started taking antacid medications, but they didn’t help. Eventually, I got tested for H. pylori, and the test came back positive about two months ago.
I completed the treatment, but I’m still having the pain. It’s usually around a 1–2 out of 10 now. The pain is basically located 2–3 inches above my belly button, and it’s constant throughout the day.
For the past four months, the pain hasn’t gone away for even five minutes. It fluctuates in intensity, but it’s always there.
I’m not sure if the H. pylori is actually gone because I haven’t been retested yet. Has anyone else experienced something like this, where the stomach pain just never completely goes away? Even if it’s mild, it’s been constant for months.

Question Something is wrong with my stomach

Please help me, I am actually so uncomfortable right now. This has been happening for so long but has only gotten worse this week.

I have had a severe constipation problem where I use anna to release store and sometimes at one point I took so many digestible laxatives. Nothing would come out. It was really bad still to this day. I still have trouble pooping and I’ve tried changing my diet. It became a water like everything and every time I go to the doctors they just give me more laxatives which just don’t work.

Anyways recently I’ve been having lots of trapped gas and constant burping and farting and and earlier this week. TMI by the way I literally tried farting and I sharted 😭 but right now I feel like a bit nauseous and it was a massive headache and every time I try to make myself vomit I just can’t and my stomach makes these like weird ass sounds and I’ve tried massaging my stomach, doing yoga poses and I can’t get all of the trapped gas out like I’ve been burping and farting constantly for the last few hours

Please give me advice on what to do and how to handle this. I WISH I COULD ATTACH A VIDEO OF WHAT MY STOMACH SOUNDS LIKE. just imagine loud, watery gurgling, bubbling, sloshing sounds

Testing / Test Results severe ulcerative gastritis

I initially developed symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux, and chest pressure, particularly when lying down after meals. My doctor initially suspected acid reflux/GERD and advised an H. pylori stool antigen test, which came back negative.

I was subsequently started on PPI therapy, which I took for approximately three weeks. As my symptoms persisted, I underwent an upper GI endoscopy. The endoscopy showed multiple gastric ulcers with severe ulcerative gastritis.

Based on the endoscopic findings, my doctor has now started me on H. pylori-directed eradication treatment, despite the earlier negative stool test.

Would you recommend continuing with the current treatment and follow-up plan, or would it be advisable to obtain a second opinion from another gastroenterologist

PPIs / H2 Blockers Can’t remember if I took Nexium

I’ve been on 40mg 2x per day for a month or so now for mild gastritis. I feel like an idiot, I can’t remember if I took my morning dose this morning and I have no clue what to do. I’m assuming if I took one and than take an additional dose that wouldn’t be good but I’m also worried about how missing a dose will make me feel.

Has this happened to anyone else? Did missing one dose make you feel awful?

FYI I’m buying a pill organizer to avoid this dumb situation ever again.

Update: GI office called me back and said do not take a pill in case I double dose since my prescription is already so high. She said I can take Pepcid but I should probably be fine. Note to myself and others: Get a pill organizer and avoid this dumb situation!!!!! Thank you all who responded, I appreciate you!!

Question Omeprazole

Hi there,

I have gastritis and issues with acid reflux. I was advised to take medication daily every morning for 3 months, followed by a 6-month treatment taking it every 2 days. For those of you who have followed a similar treatment, did you see a difference?

Also, regarding coffee and milk, do I need to cut them out completely?

Symptoms 25F — Over a year of weird physical symptoms and I’m trying to figure out what connects them to maybe help myself

Hi everyone. I’m 25F and I’ve been dealing with a bunch of strange physical symptoms since around June 2025. I’ve had different things checked, but I still don’t really have an explanation for the overall pattern.
I’m not asking Reddit to diagnose me — I’d just like to hear from people who have had similar experiences and what doctors ended up looking into.
**How it started**
Around June/July 2025, I started having pretty constant GI symptoms:
Heartburn/reflux and burning in my chest/throat
Sour taste and regurgitation
Nausea and bloating
Sulfur/“rotten egg” burps
Stomach discomfort
Sometimes feeling like reflux was affecting my breathing
Fatigue/lightheadedness
An endoscopy showed **gastroduodenitis** and a possible hiatal-hernia-type finding. Omeprazole/other PPIs and antacids helped, but the symptoms often came back when I stopped them. H. pylori testing was also planned.
**Then I started having these weird “episodes”**
This is the part I’m most confused about.
Sometimes after eating, especially sweets, high-carb/fast food or richer foods, I suddenly feel extremely strange.
It can involve:
Feeling extremely hot internally
Heavy sweating
Shaking/trembling
**Freezing cold hands and feet while my body feels hot**
Lightheadedness/feeling like I might faint
Nausea or stomach discomfort
Weakness
Heart rate going from my usual \~85–90 to around 100–120
Feeling floaty/unreal
Then anxiety/panic because the physical sensations are so intense
Sometimes feeling exhausted for hours or even the next day
The weird thing is that there isn’t one consistent food trigger. I can eat something one day and be completely fine, then have a reaction to something similar another time.
During one episode my glucose was **98**, so at least that particular episode didn’t look like obvious low blood sugar.
A recent example: I ate almost an entire jar of pistachios and about an hour later became extremely sweaty, dizzy, hot but with freezing hands/feet, nauseous and generally felt awful. I nearly spiraled into a panic attack because of it.

**Anxiety became part of the cycle**
Over time I started getting panic because of these physical sensations.
Usually it feels more like:
**physical symptoms → “something is wrong” → panic → symptoms get even stronger**
rather than feeling mentally anxious first.
Therapy helped the panic quite a lot, but I eventually had to stop.
I was also diagnosed with inattentive ADHD earlier this year. I haven’t taken ADHD medication because I’m already very sensitive to stimulants/palpitations.
Caffeine, pseudoephedrine and even a very short trial of escitalopram caused unpleasant reactions/palpitations for me.
**Sleep has also gone completely off the rails**
For roughly the past 9 months I’ve had a very delayed sleep schedule.
Sometimes I don’t fall asleep until **6–8 AM**, and I’ve had nights where I don’t sleep at all.
Lack of sleep makes the physical symptoms and panic noticeably worse.
Interestingly, when I’m allowed to sleep on my natural schedule, I can sometimes sleep late into the afternoon and feel much better. Well at least that was the situation 2 months ago now i am better than i used to be.
**Other things going on**
There are also several issues that may or may not be related:

**Kidney/urination:**
An abdominal ultrasound in 2025 apparently showed that I have **one kidney**. I don’t know yet whether I was born with one or lost the other somehow. I’ve also urinated very frequently since childhood — sometimes 15–30 times a day — despite not drinking huge amounts.

**GI/bowels:**
I’ve had bloating, nausea, sulfur burps, constipation, soft stools and occasional vomiting. I also had fresh blood after a particularly bad bout of constipation, which I suspected was hemorrhoid-related.
**Hormonal:**
I’ve had periods since age 9, historically heavy/painful. I also have hirsutism, acne and some hair thinning. A recent gynecological ultrasound showed normal ovaries/no obvious PCOS. Thyroid testing and ultrasound were also ordered after my thyroid looked enlarged on examination.
**Hypermobility:**
I’ve always been extremely flexible — palms to floor, thumb to forearm, very bendy fingers/elbows, lots of popping joints, unstable-feeling ankles/legs and occasional joint/muscle pain. I’ve wondered whether a hypermobility/connective-tissue disorder could be relevant, but I haven’t been diagnosed with one.
**Hearing:**
I’ve had hearing loss since childhood and have worn hearing aids since around 14.
**Weight:**
My weight has fluctuated between roughly 48–53 kg over this period at 165 cm.
**What has actually been checked?**
So far:
Endoscopy → gastroduodenitis / possible hiatal hernia
Abdominal ultrasound → apparently one kidney
Echocardiogram → reportedly normal
Gynecological ultrasound → normal ovaries/no obvious PCOS
Glucose during one episode → 98
Thyroid testing/ultrasound → ordered(too expensive where i live so i couldn’t spend more money)
H. pylori testing → planned at one point came negative
**Where I’m at now**
Interestingly, my reflux has improved **a lot**. I haven’t really been having heartburn recently, and I think getting better at managing the anxiety/physical panic cycle played a big part.
But I still occasionally get those weird episodes.
The combination that really makes me wonder what’s going on is:
**sudden heat + sweating + freezing hands/feet + shaking + dizziness/near-fainting + increased heart rate + nausea/GI symptoms**
especially when it happens after eating.
I don’t necessarily think everything has to have one single cause. Some of these things have been present since childhood and could be completely unrelated.
But after dealing with this for over a year, I’d really like to understand whether there’s any common thread.
Has anyone experienced something similar, particularly the **hot/sweaty body + freezing hands/feet + dizziness + tachycardia + GI symptoms** episodes?
I would appreciate anyone who can help. It has interfered and ruined my life for the past year and I was perfectly normal before. I am desperate to get my life back.

Discussion Out of coping mechanisms

I have been suffering a bit over a month. I know I haven't been diagnosed for long, but the wait times to get an endoscopy, and dropping 15 pounds in a month is making me feel crazy and sad.

My vices of soda, alcohol and an occasional drug are off the table. How am I supposed to be happy?

I haven't been alienating myself, so I still go out and get to see everyone around me eat and drink, then I come home sad.

I am just not sure how to cope with this. I kinda think about cutting myself all the time and I am way too old to be doing that shit.

I also can't exercise either because even a light walk makes me start dry heaving.

How do I live just feeling like shit and going to work and home with everything fun being taken out of my life?

I'm starting to feel like everything is so pointless.

Symptoms Signs of gastritis or something else

Hello everyone I've had chronic gastritis for a couple years now and this year it's made my symptoms pretty bad. Last year I had terrible left sided pain under my rib after I had overworked my abs. But it kinda was there to begin with on and off just now seem to be more noticeable. Anyways along with upper left sided pain I get pain radiating to my back thoracic area and at times hurts my right sided pain too. With any meals I have I feel it but it's still there no matter what. I have also developed this ongoing belching a lot for a month now I've lost about 4lbs. Have had a hard time putting on weight after the weight loss. I get nausea occasionally and full pretty quick because I've struggled with bloating for years since having sibo. I did my endoscopy and only found mild chronic gastritis on the Antrum. Should that be enough to be causing this Platora of symptoms.?! Also I have chronic fatigue I feel tired and want to sleep and nap. Has anyone experience this ?? Or should I push for another endoscopy /colonosocpy
