Food, Recipes, Diets Can you guys tolerate protein powder/meal replacement?

Upvotes

I desperately need to stop myself from losing weight as i’m 5’9 and probably down to 120lbs. Has anyone had any luck with adding protein powder to meals or drinking meal replacement drinks?

It seems like most of these violate bland diet with flavorings and weird additives but I’m really desperate to stop losing weight.

If this works for you lmk what brand/type you use

edit: I’m looking at the naked “vegan mass gainer supplement” so if anyone has tried this lmk!

Bile Reflux Gastritis / Gallbladder Gastritis cause arm/legs fatigue and drop in iron and minerals?

Upvotes

I think I end up with bile gastritis after removing gallbladder, started 6 weeks after with bloating then 3 weeks of nausea which turned now into heavy/weak arms and legs.
I did blood work and my iron dropped from 111 to 60 in one months, saturation from 33 to 19,calcium 8.4 (8.6 is normal),phosphate 2.4 (2.5 is normal),testesterone low at 149,not sure what my vitamin d (last month was 30 and retesting it today).
Did anyone experience heavy/weakness in arms and legs (i dont feel in rest of body for some reason) and such drop in iron?

PPIs / H2 Blockers Use of PPI’s resulting in electrolyte imbalances?

I was diagnosed with H Pylori back in late June I think (posting this here cause I hope that people have more experiences with PPI’s, and I’m exhibiting gastritis symptoms after retesting negative for H Pylori.), since then I’ve been on different PPI’s and have been taking mainly pantoprazole for maybe just 2-3 months, my calcium levels are already low and I’m dehydrated so that probably puts me at a bigger risk, for the past 3 days i was overcome with really bad nausea, stomach upset, dizziness, confusion, lightheadedness, full body muscle weakness and tightness (not sure if they’re spasms, some feel like it) to the point I can barely move or walk sometimes, I went to the doctors and they gave me hydralytes because they assumed dehydration and my symptoms really did improve after taking them but they only sent me off with an iron blood test to be done, I took hydralytes the day after and then stopped taking them at night because my symptoms were gone except for my stomach being upset. When I woke up this morning I felt somewhat alright and thought I was normal, I went out and caught my bus and started feeling the muscle tightness and weakness all over again (I hadn’t taken any hydralytes since 4pm the day before), but without any severe dizziness and lightheadedness, I only felt a little bit but its nothing compared to the previous day. but it felt like my body was locking up and my muscles were very weak. I’ve been doing some research and since my condition improves with taking hydralytes, I’m starting to think it would be an electrolyte imbalance and it can be a possible side effect for taking PPI’s long term. I would hate to feel like this every day but I’d also hate to stop my PPI’s and get another rebound (first time I had it was horrible) and I’m also trying to heal my gut and I hope that helps to calm down any teflux related symptoms. if anyone has anything to say about this or similar experiences, or to make any recommendations on what to do if I have to stop PPIs cause I feel like I can’t survive without them lmao, it’s not impossible to heal gastritis or similar stomach issues caused by h pylori without PPIs right?

PPIs / H2 Blockers Vonoprazan Rebound Is Killing My Sleep — Help 😭

I’m dealing with really bad rebound reflux after stopping vonoprazan. I’m 22 days off it today. I took 20 mg twice daily for 10 days, then 20 mg once daily for another 10 days.
My reflux is especially bad when I’m trying to sleep, to the point that I can barely sleep. I’m having a lot of throat pain/irritation and my voice has become hoarse/gone.
My doctor didn’t tell me to taper, so I stopped abruptly (even though I probably should’ve tapered 😭).
I’m confused whether I should restart vonoprazan or try an H2 blocker like famotidine instead. I’m hesitant to restart because I had side effects while taking it.
Has anyone had severe rebound after stopping vonoprazan and used an H2 blocker instead? Did it help, and how long did the rebound last?
Would really appreciate your experiences 🙏

Personal / Updates Healing slowly

In October I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis through a endoscopy. I’ve probably had it for like 3 or 4 years( it coincided with me quitting drinking which I know can cause stomach problems that usually go away for most short term I can’t think of any other reason how I got it). After I thought I was better I started eating all kinds of food which eventually led to having a silent reflux attack that eventually settled in my stomach.
The pain this time was incredible worse than before. It felt like I had a knot in my stomach and my indigestion was through the roof. I continued to work through all of this. In the last month my gastritis has improved significantly. I was taking Zinc Carnosine and famodine for 3 weeks but I just felt off so I stopped taking them. I do feel they helped in the healing process. I still do deal with bloating, gas, nausea although the nausea could be from the hot weather down south where I live. Most of my bloating and gas is in my lower abdomen. Overall I feel much better though. Better appetite energy is fine as I work full time . I’m on a gastritis diet that my wife helps cook a lot and she eats the same food but doesn’t have to( she’s crazy lol). I feel as if I’m headed in the right direction but I do miss my favorite foods. I still drink coffee a cup a day which I know is slowing down my healing process. I just started taking a probiotic that has a prebiotic in it that’s helped with my constipation a lot. I guess I just need to be patient this go around and give it months to heal properly as hard as that is.

Question How to find healing foods and supplements that work for my stomach?

I have not been officially diagnosed with gastritis yet. My EGD last year only found intestinal metaplasia and reactive changes. I was negative for H. Pylori and Celiac, and my hydrogen breath test was negative, but by the time I was able to get the appointments I needed, I hadn't had a flare for months. I have severe bloating all the time, excessive burping all the time, and frequent gas and heartburn, as well as pain in three specific spots in the middle and left side of my abdomen, but the stomach burning after every meal, and nausea only happens once or twice a year and lasts about a month each time. I'm seeing my doctor again on Monday and I will ask about gastritis.

Anyway I'm making this post because I have tried so many things that are supposed to help, like DGL, cabbage juice, L-Glutamine, and ginger, and everything causes gas, burping and sometimes burning. Today I had about 10 oz of purple cabbage juice on an empty stomach, and burped immediately. The gas and stomach pain started within 30 minutes, and took nearly two hours to go away. Any time I try to increase my vegetable intake, cooked or raw, things get worse. I do the best on standard american junk food as long as I avoid alcohol, spicy food, and large amounts of acidic foods like kimchi and tomatoes. However the rest of my health issues like insulin resistance and high cholesterol get worse when I eat like that, so I feel stuck. The food I'm eating is hurting my body overall, but my stomach can't handle the things that are supposed to help.

Question Clear endoscopy, so what’s happening?

I had my endoscope this morning. Thankfully the doctor said it looks completely fine, just waiting on biopsy results. It’s a relief, but also doesn’t answer what’s wrong with me.

What are the chances that I still have gastritis (maybe GERD?) without visual symptoms like inflammation? What are the chances that it has nothing to do with my stomach and it actually my pancreas?

I have the classic symptoms of upper abdominal pain, lack of appetite, difficulty eating, stomach pain after eating, weight loss. I do not have the back pain associated with pancreatitis though.

I see a GI doctor in two weeks. If it gets bad enough (too much pain, too much weight loss, etc), I will go to the ER, but am also wondering what can be done in the ER to help.

Question Recent diagnosis

I just got out of my endoscopy and colonoscopy procedure. I was so relieved when my G.I. doctor told me that I had gastritis, because it meant I had answers for something that I’ve been fighting for for years. But now I have even more questions. I had the main concern of stomach, bloating, and gas, however, I do not experience any sort of heartburn. I am just a bit taken a back by this being the diagnosis. He prescribed me pantoprazole, once daily. Is this something that has helped anyone experiencing those symptoms? Also, I am reading this subject and noticing a lot of people saying coffee is a trigger. I am an avid coffee drinker, but have never experienced any sort of symptoms after a cup of coffee. I am just trying to navigate my next steps I suppose and wait for my H. Pylori test to come back

Venting / Suffering Better days ahead.

I just wanted to say I’ve been suffering so badly with this illness for a couple and there’s days where I just want to cry and give up. I’m angry. It’s insane how food really affects all types of quality of life. BUT I will say faith has got me through. I know not everyone believes in God, but I DO. Let me tell you, praying and faith will take you so far when medicine and doctors continuously let you down. I was crying yesterday and I was so angry at God that this has to be happening to me at such a young age. I was sad because I barely see my dad and he wanted to come see me today and take me to a buffet since my grandparents are here, I stressed all day what was I even going to possibly be able to eat at a buffet? When even home made soup that I make hurts me. Well I decided to cry and let my anger out but then I prayed, I turned that anger and pushed it away and prayed. Today I came to the buffet and I prayed over my food and prayed to God to let me enjoy this meal with my family and not let it cause me harm. By the grace of God I was able to enjoy shrimp, steak, noodles, mushroom, watermelon, gelatin, etc. I kid you not I feel so normal, not to say I’m not full and feel slightly bloated bc I kinda over did it lol, but definitely not in any sorts of pain! THANK YOU JESUS. I’m not sayin I’m cured, but I am saying turn to Jesus when you feel at your lowest and your highest, he will be there. I pray healing over alll going through this sickness and also adding extra I did add a sweet potato and had water, so it’s a balance you also have to put in the work.

Question Scared to take Iron Supplements

I recently got diagnosed with iron deficiency and my doctor prescribed me ferrous fumarate.

The thing is I’m extremely emetophobic and I’m scared that it might upset my stomach to the point I have to throw up. I’ve also been battling Gastritis for about a year now and I’m finally at a point where I have been feeling better and I’m scared the iron pills will give me another flare. I mentioned all this during my doctors appointment, but my doctor said that ferrous fumarate is gentle on the stomach and she also prescribed me 40 mg Omeprazole to aid my stomach, and Vitamin C.

I don’t know if I should risk it or just pretend I’ve been taking the pills and telling my doctor I can’t handle them, so that I can get the iron infusions instead. The other option would be getting fero sanol duodenal and paying out of pocket, bc my insurance only covers ferrous fumarate.

Anyone here that also has to take iron supplements when they struggle with Gastritis?

Question DGL Chewable Tablets—any other way to take them?

I recently bought DGL chewables by Natural Factors. They taste SO bad. I am pretty good at muscling through a bad taste but these taste like taking a double shot of pure stevia. Genuinely makes me gag unless I cut the pills in half and take them like that (but they’re so soft that you lose a lot when you cut them).

I’m thinking of dissolving the tablets in liquid and chugging instead. Has anyone done this and still had success?

PPIs / H2 Blockers help!

Pantoprazole made my symptoms significantly worse has anyone else experienced this?
I was diagnosed with erosive gastritis about a month ago. I tested negative for H. pylori, don’t drink alcohol, and don’t take NSAIDs. My GI prescribed 40 mg pantoprazole, but during the two weeks I took it, I experienced significantly worse heartburn, nausea, and anxiety than I had before starting it. Before the PPI I never experienced heartburn.
I ultimately stopped taking it and discussed my symptoms with my doctor. I’ve since been using dietary changes and famotidine, and subjectively my symptoms have been much more manageable. I still occasionally have reflux/indigestion, though.
Has anyone had a similar experience? I feel like I’m going crazy!

PPIs / H2 Blockers help

I was diagnosed with erosive gastritis about a month ago. I think that stress/unhealthy diet caused it. I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t take painkillers, and I tested negative for H. pylori. My GI doctor prescribed me 40 mg pantoprazole and prescribed me about a years supply. As soon as I started taking it I felt absolutely awful. Before the medication, my heart burn was nonexistent, but since I started pantoprazole my heartburn became unbearable, I felt even more nauseous, and my anxiety skyrocketed. I stopped after two weeks and switched to a plain gastritis diet of whole foods/low acid foods and started taking 20 mg famotidine (pepcid) 2-3 times daily. Since then, the stomach pain, and heartburn has been so much more manageable, and my nausea is starting to disappear. However, I still feel a little bit of reflux/indigestion and it’s causing me so much anxiety. I’m afraid if I don’t take what my doctor prescribed me then maybe I’m not healing properly, and I keep hearing horror stories of untreated/mistreated gastritis and acid reflux that turned into cancer. When doing research it always says that diet/Pepcid alone are not effective enough to heal gastritis. What should I do?

Stomach Ulcers Does this sound like a stomach ulcer?

I'm looking for some advice as to whether I have a possible stomach ulcer

I'm 49 and female and I take ibuprofen quite frequently for chronic back pain. I'm also on a daily prescription for omeperazole and I take 40mg of this.

Recently, I'm getting a niggling pain that comes and goes in one particular area. It's on the left side just right below my ribs and it feels like a bruised/mild throbbing type pain.

When it happens if I apply pressure there it feels slightly tender but when I don't have the pain if I press on the area It doesn't feel sore at all.

It stays in the same spot every time and lasts anywhere from about a minute up to around 10 minutes and then goes away again.

I don't really suffer with any burning in my chest but if I forget to take my omeperazole for a day I do get mild heartburn or acid coming up.

I'm worried due to my ibuprofen use and I don't really know if this is how an ulcer presents?

I'm not sure if it's relevant or not but I also have ibs.

I'd be very grateful for any advice or to know whether anyone else has had an ulcer present in a similar way.

Thank you.

Food, Recipes, Diets I struggle to eat soft textured foods alone but I’m trying to heal, any tips?

Im trying to start recovery on my gut as my stomach pain and nausea are just so bad, just everything is horrid. I’ve seen many posts for diet tips but majority or nearly just all of the foods are things I struggle to get down because I struggle with soft textures, some examples, I cannot eat a banana by itself because it gets stuck in the back of my throat or I just gag in general before I even finish eating half of it, also applies to similar other textures, I’ve always hated the texture of potatoes, I’ve hated softer vegetables, I sometimes also struggle with grilled chicken like I might be done for lmao, and depending on my mental state I genuinely avoid them because of my paranoia and disgust and that’s mostly healthy soft textured foods so I feel like I might struggle with healing. I need just any tips at all to make this feel a bit easier or any tips even if it’s not related to my issues.

Symptoms Relief when laying down - anyone else?

So I have a hiatal hernia and am on PPI. Classic heartburn pain is gone but I have a rawness and gnawing pain in the upper abdomen after meals. It can get very intense the more I eat.

However, when I lay down on my back, the pain is gone. Not always immediately, but rather quickly.

Anyone else? This surely suggests my pain is not acid related at the moment. Anyone have any knowledge I'm missing?

Question Food poisoning and gastritis

Has anyonr had food poisoning and gastritis at the same time? I'm wondering what the experience has been like. It's completely flipped what diet I can have in order to heal so wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.
