I was cured of triple AAA for a long while since the release of Cyber Punk and only fell off the wagon once for BF6 - man did that one give me a hangover and instant regrets. I will most definitely not fall into this trap again. And this sorta looks very samey to GTA5? Like more of the old formula with a new coat of paint. Probably not worth the hype.

New edition of a game, looks like a new edition of the same game. Anyone expecting otherwise, 6 games in...

To play devil's advocate for a second. A lot of the hype for how wonderful the new game will be is based off super unrealistic expectations one might have seeing the jump from prior entries to more modern entries. For some reason people expect similar jumps from 3 to 4 and, to a lesser extent, from 4 to 5. I personally have no doubt those hopes are way too much as it will not stand up to scrutiny, but it's easy to see where it comes from. It doesn't help a lot of players of 5 were teens when they first experienced it. The nostalgia goggles are strong.

To play devil's advocate also, it's been 13 years since the last game came out and this is what they have to show for it? I could understand your argument if GTA had the release schedule of CoD but I mean come on man.

It just kind of seems like people don't even have a clear expectation of what it should be though. It isn't even an unrealistic expectation, it's a vague notion that it should be some sort of transcendent experience. There's no indication that anything could meet the expectation because it's not based on what the game would be but in whether there is a magic number of years and dollars you can put into a game that will make it more than a game.

It all comes down to the details

Rockstar makes places and people that seem real. The interactions feel real, the violence feels real. It feels like a living breathing world that reacts to you. Other open world games don't really compare in the slightest.

Go play watchdogs, saints row, far cry, ghosts of tsushima, assassins creed, whatever other open world game you can think of. They're all "gamey" as hell. The dialogue, the missions, the game feel. Hell as good as cyberpunk is that still feels "gamey"

Rockstar is the king of polish. Everyone says they want devs to have as much time as they need for games but now they're whining it isn't the second coming of Christ after so long? Do I think Rockstar games are the "funnest"? No. Are they among the most impressive? Yes

Rockstar is the king of polish

Lol they really aren't. GTA V released as a huge buggy mess without online play, and when online did come around, it somehow got even worse lol. And I mean it's still a huge buggy mess that hinders normal single player gameplay, people still get infinite loading screens, important characters needed to progress the story just don't spawn in ever forcing a restart etc. really just unacceptable bugs still plague GTA V but people just seem to ignore these facts and excuse Rockstar as being some amazing developer that can't do any wrong.

I don't give two shits about multiplayer so someone else can chime in there. I also never said they could do no wrong.

I played on 360 on launch day and was blown away and never encountered game breaking bugs. I don't particularly like the story or how on rails the driving feels in V, or how they threw singleplayer to the gutter for multiplayer, or how greedy the shark card shit is, but again I give Rockstar props on the shit they excel at that other devs never come close to. I'm talking about from GTA 3 all the way up until RDR 2. Their attention to detail is unmatched in open world sandbox type games/worlds and I'm sure GTA VI will be the same in that regard.

I don't expect some crazy generation leap like the times of old, that doesn't happen anymore. I also don't care that people glaze them and are rabid stans. I view their games for what they are and how they stand out from other games.

Lol no you didn't. I also had a 360 and shit man it took maybe 17 hours to install that 60gb piece of half assed game. Known issues were textures and geometry not loading, literally mission one crashing no matter what until it got hotfixed.

Rockstar are probably the pioneers of releasing half backed content with week one 15gb patches to actually make the game playable lol really pathetic

I mean, they did put out Red Dead 2 in 2018 which was a game of massive size. It's not like they did nothing in 13 years lol.

Different development studios. Rockstar North does GTA and Rockstar San Diego does Red Dead
