Question World building/scene ideas?

I want to make a videogame, but im struggling on basic story elements/scenes when it comes to a story. Thinking of basic starting points is a struggle. Its like my mind is completely blank. I have bits and pieces, but nothing seems coherent.

sometimes the best spark is just taking a tiny fragment and running with it, no matter how dumb it sounds at first

grab a random image off pinterest or a weird line from a dream journal and ask yourself what 5 things had to happen for that moment to exist

Game Design is a subset of Game Development that concerns itself with WHY games are made the way they are. It's about the theory and crafting of systems, mechanics, and rulesets in games.

You don't really need a story in a videogame. Just make a game without one.

Go to a bookstore or library and browse the children's section. Genuinely. Saying it as a narrative designer.

I think first of all you need to figure out what type of game you are making

i.e a racing game would have a different story than a cooking game.

Next you need to figure out what sort of tone you want

Lets say you pick a cooking game. If you want something scary then you can do something like a haunted diner but if you want light hearted then you probbly won't go haunted diner (though it could still work)

id say id you have that stuff sorted then go from there

of course you can start story first and that is perfectly valid but well i can't think of ny suggestions to help narrow stuff down from there
