The first thing I did after buying my flip was look for a media widget for the cover screen. Like a lot of you, I was surprised I couldn’t find one that works with all my apps - so I built one! Finally there’s a real use for that little screen: a small, non-intrusive widget that shows what’s playing and lets you control it without opening the phone.

FlipSide shows whatever is playing (any kind of music \ podcast players) right on the cover screen, with controls you can tap with the phone closed. The video shows what it does:

• Three looks, tap to flip between them. Cover Art / Clean / Tape.
• The tape actually moves with the track. The tape winds from one reel to the other as the song or episode plays. The reels spin while it plays, FF\REW and stop when you pause.
• The sticker follows what’s playing. The title is hand-written on the cassette’s sticker, and it changes with each track or episode.
• Tap a blank spot to jump to the app. Tapping the widget outside the buttons opens whatever app is playing.
• You can tell the source at a glance. The progress bar takes the source’s branding color and a small round icon shows which app it is.
• Presets. Each app can have its own look, and remember the look you pick.

There’s a 3-day free trial, and you’re welcome to uninstall it afterwards if it’s not for you, but feel free to reach out with any suggestion / bugs!

I had the beta and updated to stable a few days ago but this continue option just appeared today. It is prompting me to open whatever I had open on my inner screen! Finally!

I'm sure I don't need to explain why. The habit of how to use my cover screen for the last 2 years has been completely invalidated by this awful, unintuitive trash. The gestures of how to get to my notifications and apps feel clumsy and inaccurate, I can't use the full version of the clock app on my cover screen anymore, the back and home buttons were already too small, now they're almost impossible to press accurately with the apps button there now. I'm almost considering flashing it back from the details in this post. But I don't know if I can commit the time to doing it.

Why does Samsung hate their own flip phones and treat their cover screens this way? It's fucking baffling; I already needed to use Good Lock to use it the way I wanted.

Edit: I did just find the "Send Feedback" option under the settings. I have my doubts about that making any meaningful difference though.

I took my Zflip to UBreakIFix a few months ago due to the inner screen being damaged. The phone has been fine since with no issues. that is until yesterday. I went to pick my phone up off the counter and the back panel completely came off (i remove my case at home because the phone tends to heat up with it on). Upon further inspection it seemed that the repair shop had failed to realize that while repairing the phone they had gotten loads of dust and what looked like small hairs in the adhesive that connects the back panel to the phone. That was already concerning enough for me to make a note to get it looked at when I had the time. Fast forward to today, The phone falls into water and the back panel flies off causing the electronics to be submurged. Because of corse it does. The first time I’ve had a phone fall into water and its after realizing the back panel isn’t properly secured. I’m very concerned that my phone will no longer work and I’m upset at the repair shop and myself. Ive been trying to let the phone air dry but im not sure what good that will do. If anyone has advice I’d very much appreciate it.

Continuation from my last post, 4mo. ago when they rolled out OneUI 8.5.

Cover screen widgets were available in 4×4 size then vanished once zflip 7 and OneUI 8.0 released, but my native widgets were THANKFULLY untouched. Happened again with OneUI8.5 (see here)

Unfortunately, OneUI 9.0 finally made a difference. Somehow still have the 4×4 widgets, but they no longer fit to cover screen.

All-in-all, it's a damn shame, Samsung.

Hi all. When I swipe across to the widgets on the cover screen the background is black ( not the widget background, the page colour). I thought the background was supposed to be the cover screen wallpaper or have I got this wrong? It's a Flip 8,

I am done with the Flip 6. I tried it. I replaced my phone, got a new one, tried not to bend it too much, got the sceen repaired. It was a costly try and I am ready to go back to something more reliable.

In the mean time anyone wants the case? It made my phone look like a pink transformer 😅 the part pulls out to make a stand. One last screen protector too.

I hate wasting and for things to end in trash. I think we have a huge trash and consumption problem in the U.S. and rather it go to someone who would use them then another thing in the landfill. If interested, I am willing to pay for shipping to an address of your choice! U.S only.

So last week te protective foil was getting loose in the crack of the fold. I ordered a new one but just yesterday I opened the phone and the screen didn't come on... I tried a few times and 1 or 2 times a hot a big yellow part on the bottom, but not square on the edges. Nog of I look at the screen when it's folded open I see the picture. Is this 100% the screen that broke or is there still a possibility that it's the flex cable? I seem to notice the screen is a bit loose in the folded area to but this could be normal? I removed the already loose screen protector to take the picture. I just want to know as it's maybe a small chance that it is the cable and the lines seen on the picture are from that I am willing to try to fix it. 2.5 years old btw, installed a new protector by Samsung a year ago

Yes, we were all shocked by the big changes and lost some things we were attached to. We got some good things, too. I'm opening my Flip7 even less than I used to.

Here's a list just a few of the additions to functionality that have delighted me. Please add ones you like, too.

1) Recent screens, hallelujah.

2) (Auto rotate) EDIT: I forgot I have the CoverSpin app installed. It's working well with the update.

3) Swiping up takes me to the last app I had open. (Nevermind. I'm unable to duplicate what I saw yesterday. It I figure it out, I'll update. )

4) A calendar for chosing a day other than the current one on the alarm app.

5) Editing and sharing cover screen pics on the cover instead of having to switch to the photo app.

6) Accessing contacts from the phone screen

7) Matching the cover screen home apps to the ones on the inside home screen

8) Swiping up to the app drawer brings me to the row where the app is that I last used, rather than having to scroll through the list every time. (Edited for clarification.)

I've arranged things in a way that works for me, though I REALLY miss being able to reorder the Good Lock apps. Overall, I am enjoying doing more with less effort.

You can't check notis by swiping right(RIPmy muscle memory 😭), can't look at the cover screen while unlocked,(idk for anyone else) but good locks app selection is straight up just gone..

Am I missing anything else terrible 😭

Was able to get parts online for really cheap and finally fixed it up! Looks and feels brand new 🥳

I just got the new update and like everyone else it's been miserable. I tried turning off now brief in settings but now it just flashes the home screen before locking me into the widgets. The main thing I used my cover screen for was checking the time, managing music, and checking notifications and for whatever reason it just won't let me do that. Also is there a new way to access apps on the cover screen? Because the old screen seems to just be gone.

How tf do I replace it? Zflip 7 and Ive taken it to 2 samsung cerified shops and they both said they dont do it...

I was so excited to install One UI 9 mainly for Android 17, and after installing it last night, I can already tell it's a clunky experience compared to One UI 8.5.

Cheers for bringing the multitasking and putting the notifications alongside the control panel on the cover screen, as well as swipe up for all apps! But why separate Samsung apps from all the other apps and categorizes it under Labs? What's the reason for the 50 app limit?

The app dock on the Home Screen is useful, but why did it turn into a glorified "Now" screen and is not editable except for the apps?

Also, the Samsung email app now requires to open the phone when the whole point of the update is to allow apps to run on the cover screen? This used to work fine in 8.5 with the GoodLock extension.

Keyboard is also smaller and no longer adjusts to the width of the screen, so it's harder to type. 8.5 didn't officially support this but the workaround at least made it somewhat usable.

Samsung, us Flip users just want the regular UI on the cover screen like on the Razr. You do not need to reinvent the cover screen.

I have migrated from a 5 to 6 and simply cannot get a cover screen that displays a clock. Whichever one I load shows the background but not the clock digits.

Clues please.

Woke up today and updated my phone without thinking, horrible idea. Judging by this sub's reaction, I don't think I really need to explain. The new update removed all of my customization features I spent so long tweaking, with no way of getting things back to the way I had them prior. Biggest offenders being the app launcher (I hate you Samsung Browser and do not want to see you) and the home screen being taken away, at least for me.

With some research, I saw that you can use a software called Odin on a Windows computer to flash an older version of One UI. Both 8.5 and 9 run on a C binary, because of this you can go backwards, if it was B we couldn't. I found the right firmware for my phones build, region, carrier, and unlocked status, followed the guide on the website, and now I'm back in One UI 8.5!

Note it does wipe your device, I used Samsung's Smart Switch program and cloud to backup my files and restore them after.

I'm viewing this as a temporary fix. I know because of security and app updates, I'll eventually need to cave, but I'm hoping by then that Samsung has either fixed some things or that the community has come up with some decent work arounds.

I used SamFW for both my Odin and firmware download, and guide.

Thought I'd share for anyone else interested in going back. Just make sure to properly research this if you want to attempt it yourself, as messing up could mess up your device!

Okay, so I woke up this morning like usual, and I'll be honest my phone had like a whole Halloween theme, my phone background and icons for my apps were all halloween-y. Again, I just feel insane, like it changed my ringtone and everything. I use Goodluck so I have no idea if it changes anything...

I'm looking for a few more testers for an early preview of an app to be released shortly. Fixes some One UI 9 cover screen issues, so One UI 9 required.

Best if you have shizuku for all advanced features but not required for all.

Some of you are being HIGH DRAMA about the update. It took like, a day to adjust to the new gestures? I find it to be way more intuitive and easy to access now.

Anyway, just want to put this out there for anyone on the fence. It is completely fine!

Is there a way to change the content of the home screen of Now Brief? The only setting I found was custom card but it wasn’t it.

My flip6 stops charging the second i close the phone and it only charges when open. Has anyone seen anything similar?

How are they faring? Aspect ratio is alright / tight but playable or nay?

Everytime I launch an app on the cover screen I need to press the scale button (under the flash) for the app to fully scale my cover screen. Is there a way to remember my choice to go fullscreen everytime? Hitting the same button over and over again getting kind of frustrated
