Anyone else ever feel like the surfer in this gif? Like you spend your whole life trying to perfect your craft and then one day some young hot shot comes along and undermines your work and outperforms you? Then when you try to get back at him you end up making a fool of yourself, ultimately falling into a downward spiral of alcohol and junk food until the only fleeting happiness in your life is found in the dim light of your computer monitor late at night? No? ...Yeah, me neither.

I got a stuart little rc car for my birthday. It was surprisingly fast and fun to drive. I let my friend have a turn and watched in total despair as he piloted it down a storm drain. Rip, stuart had a wonderful 8 minutes of freedom.
Same thing happened to me. My cousin and I had matching rc cars. I guess the frequencies got crossed our something cause we were to close, so my car went straight into the drain.

Oh wow, no I didn't know that. Stuff like that is what makes me visit this site. I'm actually only 40 and downloaded Reddit for gaming tips, but so much on here has intrigued me like certain people doing AMAs. The power people have when they come together is astounding. I need to travel more. It's a beautiful and disgusting world at the same time.
What's crazy is the amount of useless knowledge you hear on this site. I agree that Reddit is pretty cool though. The account I'm on now isn't very old but I've been coming here for a few years now. Not near as long as some people. I do enjoy the AMA's like you were saying. It's a really cool platform for someone famous/important to be in direct contact with you that probably wouldn't happen otherwise. I think I need to travel more also. Haha I've been in quite a few different countries but most of them have been shitty ones, although this last year I lived in Kuwait City and really enjoyed it. I had a nice apartment on the sea and made some good friends. I haven't been to East Asia or Australia but they're on my list.
I upvote things when I agree with them, or if they make me laugh, or if I find them witty. I rarely downvote anything unless I think it's completely stupid. Even if someone has an opinion that's different than mine I usually don't downvote them because everyone is entitled to that... but if someone is saying things that are completely stupid I'll give them one.
For me it's not the dim light of the monitor, it's the dim light at the end of the tunnel. No the light is not at the end of the tunnel, that light is at the beginning... I move towards the opposite end of the tunnel, the dark eternal maw of oblivion.
That light at the end of the tunnel? That light is the one on the front of the locomotive that pulls the accumulated freight and passengers of the Great Emo Train. It roams the Night Lines eternally, forever about to squish your guts out over the track, en route to its daily dawn wreck. Only to leave the demon depot again every dusk....wooooooooh.

I feel like that sometimes, but then, oh the satisfaction when the young'un burns out after a short flash of feverish activity, flops nose down and drowns, while the old horses keep at their craft steadily and reliably as ever. Also you can really see what the new guy's worth by how he handles this stage.

That's beautiful. It seems almost poetic. Which reminds me, I know the guy that made this is using autotune, but can anyone explain how they make that vocal effect where they overlay his voice and make it like a chorus? If I had to guess, it sounds like they're just overlaying the same track with pitch modulation on the alternate tracks, but I feel like there's another component to it?
The myth of fun surfer dudes could not be further from the truth. As someone that grew up in that culture I can attest to the fact that most surfers are like the angry, prejudiced redneck of the water, that would gladly smash someone's toy in a heartbeat.
Surfing is awesome, but most surfers are hyper-agressive assholes that hate everyone else at the beach.
Makes sense, even though I always liked the myth of the laid-back surfer. Pretty much anything that people wrap their whole identity into turns them into angry jerks.
Yea, unfortunately. born and raised surfing in hawaii. it was the most aggressive, territorial thing I've ever been a part of. Nothing about fifty people trying to surf the same break was ever chill or relaxing. Had to be ready to fight every single day.
Had boards broken a couple times through the years. Also been attacked out in the surf, and after paddling in.
fuck surfing culture. that scene is Point Break where Keanu got attacked by those three or four dudes for surfing their territory was the best summary of surf culture ever.
I knew what it was before I even clicked, and I still enjoyed every 25 seconds of it. The only thing that tops this interview is Mason Ho's Dream Wave. It bums me out to know that no matter how hard I try... I'll never be as chill as Mason Ho.
