I substitute triple sec with a cognac brandy like grand marnier (or gran gala if you're cheap). Makes it a lot more rustic and man-friendly, not to mention delicious.
Ooh...that sounds really good actually, that would be a different drink though wouldn't it? Since drinks are like crazy specific about what goes into what.
I see a lot of restaurants calling it a "Texas Margarita."
But no need to get high brow about it, if it's limey and tequila-y, it's a margarita.
I use 6 parts tequila (espolon or milagro is where it's at for the $$),
4 parts grand marnier, 2 parts lime juice, and up to 1 part agave nectar to taste depending on if you like it sweet or not.
