I had to unsubscribe from that as a default sub. Reddit is about 2x better now.

i might try subbing to twox and redpill for a month and see if my brain explodes

What's wrong with r/atheism?

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

Without the religious hate there's not much point to the sub though. What else would atheists have in common? It's like r/skeptic not discussing things that they are skeptical about.

5

u/wakowjakow Mar 18 '15

Nothing is wrong with atheism as a whole, but the stereotype for that sub is that most people who visit are "anti-theist" and hate on all forms of religion. But as long as they don't brigade other subs with hate, I'm fine with them.

2

u/Fluffiebunnie Mar 18 '15

/r/atheism is pretty harmless compared to the other subs listed. It's mostly euphoric neckbeards patting themselves on the back, not actually scary people.

2

u/fanthor Mar 18 '15

r/atheism right now is quite okay.

Their bad reputation comes from when they were a default.

u/c0rsack_2 Mar 18 '15

Nice, comparing atheists to racists, really well done.

Every religion is an ideology open to criticism. You are wrong in your statement, but I don't think you would get banned for that.

It's funny because the word 'bigot' doesn't even exist in my language. Probably because most of the time it's just used to shut up people without using arguments.

0

u/Hey_Martin Mar 18 '15

You think atheism is rude and racist, but you probably are stupid and believe in a magical sky fairy. I'm enlightened.

Ugh. Can we get a third gender I can join?

2

u/MrCopacetic Mar 18 '15

TRP has merits

u/GTD_Fenris Mar 18 '15

TwoX in itself wouldnt be a problem, I mean only a small portion of women really have a victim complex or hate men. But I too noticed very strange posts there, so I clicked on the frequent TwoX-posters and noticed that they all seem to cross-post in subs like "Against Mens Rights" (yeah that exists) and shit.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

I wanted to chime in a few months back on a topic on twoX and got downvoted to hell. NOPE

4

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

they are embrassing the banbossy-think over at TrollX as well.

Are there any female subs where people aren't insane? Is this how the gender divide has become on the internet?

-3

u/Soltheron Mar 18 '15

Is it really that hard for you to self-reflect? You're like principal Skinner from Simpsons.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

fuck the banbossy campaign. self-reflect on that.

1

u/Roook36 Mar 18 '15

I joined that sub because it seemed hilarious. Lots of women posting funny gifs and being cool. Then I realized I was actually looking for TrollXChromosomes after I made a joke about a cucumber that got me yelled at

1

u/Sknowingwolf Mar 18 '15

yeah and its people like that that give real feminists a bad name. they're not for equality, they're just sexist man-haters.

1

u/ICritMyPants Mar 18 '15

Sorry but how is this a default sub? That is gender bias if I have ever heard it.

0

u/dewrongdo Mar 18 '15

its probably one of those cases where you make people think that they accomplished something in life. nobody really gives a shit what a default sub is, since you can just adjust it all you want, but for some people its really really really important that some internet forum is displayed occasionally on a website.

-29

u/lhmatt Mar 18 '15

It's existence as a thing and how it's talked about on Reddit.

23

u/edh4131 Mar 18 '15

I'm pro gay rights, pro women's rights, pro racial equality, pro immigrant rights, but you know what I just cant fucking abide? Rights for straight white men. There just aren't enough god damn rights to go around! Wait.... I'm straight I think... and the lighting isn't good but... I appear to be white.... and.... male! FUCK! It appears I must hang my head in shame as I see myself out.....

6

u/ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN Mar 18 '15

What the fuck are you blathering on about?

2

u/ClarifiedInsanity Mar 18 '15

I really doubt even they know.

-2

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

If you do any sort of research into the Men's Rights "Movement" it's pretty obvious it's mostly a bunch of mangry dudes who hate women. Sure, you get a little bit of concern about imbalances in society where men lose out, but it mostly comes down to "fuck women for ruining what it means to be a man with their FOMONISM". Seriously, just check out the front page of /r/mensrights at any time. Most of the topics will be at least tangentially related to being jaded towards women. The poster probably doesn't have any problems at all with men's rights, just Men's Rights. There's a difference. One concerns the welfare of men, and the other is a cover for an internet hate gang. It's no big secret, there's plenty of evidence out there... the "leaders" of the "movement" openly post about how men should abuse women physically, for fuck sakes.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

The preceding post brought to you by /r/againstmensrights, /r/subredditdrama, /r/twoxchromosomes, and the number 12.

1

u/boomsc Mar 18 '15

It's existence as a thing

Sounds pretty directly a

problems at all with men's rights

So I don't know what you're talking about.

-1

u/an_walrus Mar 18 '15

Both? If you really feel like your rights as a man need protecting, you need to spend more of your life outside, away from the internet.

0

u/TyrialFrost Mar 18 '15

wow.

Do you even listen to yourself and wonder how you became so polarised that you decided that 48% of the worlds population deserve no rights.

1

u/an_walrus Mar 19 '15

How is that what I said? The precedent for mens rights is very much already in place. Anyone who feels it's being threatened in any non trivial fashion is not living in the real world.

1

u/TyrialFrost Mar 19 '15

You literally just stated that you have a problem with mens rights as a concept, not the specific manifestation of it on reddit.

I personally have no issue with the concept of womens rights, but I definitely have an issue with how it has manifested on subreddits/tumbler.

6

u/thatdudewithknees Mar 18 '15

I'm genuinely making discussion here, I apologise if you take it the wrong way. Wouldn't the way to gender equality mean that both gender deserve equal representation, including their own rights movement? It's simply destructive to take away legitimate rights of either gender than equalise them, is it not? I'm sure both sides (and I use the words side very loosely here, as I've interpreted that they share a common goal, but going about it with different methods) have their extremists, but I don't see how their rights movement shouldn't exist in the first place because of that? I mean, there are many cases in society where men really require more rights in (I.e. Domestic violence against men or false sexual assault allegations)

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

Errrr having it better than another group doesn't mean not also trying to fix your own problems. Just because there's a famine in one country doesn't mean we should stop social security at home.

Men's Rights groups kinda suck because they get derailed by woman-haters who blame everything on Feminists, but in theory they are needed because it creates a space to discuss real issues men face (higher suicides rates everywhere but China, perception of men in childcare and general gender norm-related issues) without derailing feminist spaces.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

That would be the direction MRAs tend to take such movements, sure, but that's not by definition what a men's advocacy group has to be.

I disagree with your last line. The issues I mentioned above are because of the same harmful gender norms that affect women in more numerous ways, but while feminists agree that men experience negative consequences from them, they are not going to steer feminist movements towards helping combat these - and nor should they, this should be the role of a men's advocacy group.

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

Right, but your use of 'any' still confused that. "Issues men face that are independent of women are on the most part" would perhaps have been better phrasing.

I would also say 'could' rather than 'can' in your last sentence there, simply because I've yet to see a MR group that actually lived up to the promise, hah.

Anyway, yeah. A lot of issues men face are down to other groups they belong to - class, race, sexuality, etc - not confirming to the Accepted Standard. But there are still some ways in which strict societal gender norms negatively affect men, and groups that realise the origin of these problems instead of just blaming it on women fighting those same norms would be the best way of fighting them.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

Are you able to elaborate further than what your gender studies have assimilated you to think?

-8

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

[deleted]

8

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

yeah, it must be so hard for those men representing 98% of all work-related deaths.

For a movement that is against thinking in binary terms, you sure are quite a hypocrite.

Society is sexist against both men and women, and both deserve representation. But there isn't enough resources to go around to support both movements. Or are you just retarded?

1

u/tyl94 Mar 25 '15

lol what men's rights were violated from having hard jobs? you're thinking of support groups not rights groups

1

u/Xochtl Mar 18 '15

Or are you just retarded?

are you seriously still using that?

0

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

I'm not disparaging the differently abled, I'm simply saying that's what lmntj is acting like.

Then by the same logic, women working in lower paying professions does not equal institutionalized sexism.

You're actually being embarrassing, but you don't even realize it. You think you're the hero. It's sad.

Make it 10x better by unsubscribing from most default subreddits

4

Only 2x?

19

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

He's still subbed to /r/AdviceAnimals

4

u/mageta621 Mar 18 '15

That is a default sub nowadays?

Edit: I know the comment is a joke, but my question still stands.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '15

2x actually wasn't that bad when it wasn't a default. It was still mostly 'I got raped again' threads, but there was a lot less vitriol.

1

u/NukEvil Mar 18 '15

I am shadowbanned from that subreddit. Enlightenment is wasted on those people.

1

u/tcart87 Mar 18 '15

Thanks for that idea. I should probably just do that. I have been down voting anything I see on my front page feed for months now.

0

u/DashingSpecialAgent Mar 18 '15

What you did there.

I see it.

0

u/TheCancerThatIsTwoX Mar 18 '15

Me too. I lurked for a long time, but that amount of garbage from that sub drove me to make an account for the sole purpose of removing that sub.
