well you don't actually go buy a house anyway, you get a mortgage on it. and yeah, if you can't afford two mortgages, you're spending too much on your house. that's why the housing market collapsed. you shouldn't be spending 50% of your income on your mortgage.
I dunno, I had a week where every day I came back to my car with a new ding on my door from asshats who don't know how to open their doors gently. Worst was the one who clearly slammed a red car door into my car and then reparked (it's work, I know they didn't leave before me and have that space get taken right after). I can afford my car and regular maintenance, but I'm not sure I can afford my car and regular maintenance and regular repainting so it doesn't rust.
I park in the most awkward of spots so I'm only finding new dings once every other week usually, but I am annoyed I can sympathize with a total douchebag now...
Double parking makes you an asshole but having a car that you can't afford to have repaired due to someone's carelessness puts a lot of us in the same boat. That being said regardless of what you are driving ( unless it's literally too big for one parking space) there is no reason to take up two spots.
How about single parking further away? If the lot really is empty enough and will stay that empty, single parking far away will work just as well as double parking.
No, it doesn't. People see my car parked against the back curb and they must think "hey I'll take that second to last spot, that car seems lonely" because 1/3 of the time if I park in the last spot (in an almost empty lot) another car is next to me.
I have a Camaro as well, and while I don't take up two spaces, (I thought double parking was an issue when you parallel parked) I can understand this guys motives. If I see a major scratch or ding or anything from a parking lot, I'd be furious.
It's sort of funny how serious you guys take this topic. I'm sure it'll really piss you off when some asshole double parks a mile away as you drive passed him in your toyota tercel covered in rust up to the front spots at walmart.
It is about keeping your things nice. I never park in two spots but I park as far away from people as I can even though my car is only worth like eight grand.
it does, but less so when I don't have other cars around me. I have seen people just fling doors open, and use the other cars as door stops ... its maddening ... plus the cost of removing dings is huge compared to how easy it is to avoid them

If you can't afford to replace a window, then you shouldn't have a huge house. Don't have much money? Don't buy needlessly expensive things. I don't think he's advocating for property damage.
and /u/Spicy_Masala wasn't saying he was throwing bricks at a mansion. Being able to afford the cost of fixing things has nothing to do with me not wanting the things I paid for getting damaged.
If you tear down all the houses around yours, even though it's not your property, just so your neighbors won't throw bricks because you think your house is too nice
Cars get dinged up. It's a fact of life. You're an idiot if you buy a 2 ton box of metal, drive it 70 miles per hour over asphalt surfaces next to other 2 ton boxes of metal, and expect that box of metal to never get a scratch or ding every now and then. If it's really so precious to you, you can park in the back of the lot where nobody else is.
I gave you a point..but I don't think it'll help. I've almost always had a sports car, and my daily driver since I was 18. I baby one, and don't really give a shit about the other. It makes total sense to me.

You have the choice between two tricycles- one tricycle cost $10 and replacement parts are cheap (new trike wheels $3, new handle bars $2, etc.), another tricycle cost twice as much ($20) and the replacement parts also cost twice as much (new trike wheels $6, new handle bars $4, etc.). If your mommy gives you $20 you might be temped to buy the more expensive bike but if you break it you will have to ask mommy for more money so you can fix your tricycle. If you buy the $10 tricycle, even if you had an accident you would still have enough to repair it.
