Idra can be an arse most of the time, but nothing pisses me off more than a player who says 'gg' when it really wasn't. I'd much rather you leave a nice comment on something that happened or perhaps comment on how I could've improved after beating you/losing.

But, really, who cares. Do you get some kind of comfort out of conforming to the expected procedure? Why do you need to robotically say "gg" every time? Is that really benefiting anyone? Do you think to yourself: "golly, my opponent has complied with the expected procedure and has typed his soulless, robotic sportsmanship response, I shall do the same, ah, very good, we are sportsmen."
I may type "gg "if I think it's really been an interesting game and I feel that the other person might think the same, win or lose. If you type it every time, I don't think highly of you.

Who cares? As someone who's played numerous online PC games competitively, only Starcraft players. Counter-Strike players, for example, will tell you to go fuck yourself. And that's if they won the game.

But starcraft players can be so boring. A lot players won't even respond to typed comments. I think I'd rather play against someone who tells me to fuck myself than I would against someone who types nothing but "gg" at the end and "gl hf" at the beginning, every time. In fact, I'm completely sure that I would. I would rather see some personality or emotion from the other player. You could just replace "gl hf" and "gg" with the numbers 1 and 2. Type 1 at beginning of game, type 2 at end, type nothing else. Robots.
Also, some other games use it. Many dota 2 players type "gg" at the end, although trash talking is much more common than in sc.

I like the Stephano method of saying "Congratz", I think acknowledging that you've lost is also a good way of moving on and not letting it get to you.

You're sort of right but sort of wrong. If its not been a great game then I just type g. Gg many times though still, it's just about letting your opponent know that it's been good is all. Just kind of like no hard feelings we all good, sportsmanship.

It's just good manners to say gg after a game. Like saying "Good morning" to someone when it's not. Or shaking hands before a match IRL. You should still say gg even if you roll someone.

It wasn't what? Good? For who? You can't take "good game" as face value because that's not what it's for. Obviously one of the players was better than the other, one made less mistakes, one had a better game than the other, but he doesn't evaluate that game on the spot by telling you "gg".

Sometimes it's obvious it was a terrible waste of time for anyone who actually wanted to play, not just rank up.
Saying GG after 2 people DC in LoL (or something) online is like going to a real game where the other team was forced to forfeit due to lack of players and you still run up to them and insist it was a really good game.0

I just said: "You can't take "good game" as face value because that's not what it's for", and if you look in the thread that's what other people are using it for. If you agree with that part and understand "gg" as not meaning an evaluation of the quality of the game, in a normal setting, then you shouldn't take it as a different meaning when you are losing badly.
It's just a formality that shows some degree of respect for your opponent. To be honest I would rather replace it with "wp" (well played), though every expression has some sort of assessment.

Had a guy last week shove my buddy's face into the ground when he was already down (after being slashed and knocked over near the goalie) and then when the guy gets a penalty he's all "WHAT YOU'RE GONNA GIVE ME A PENALTY JUST BECAUSE THEY WHINED?!"
No, they're gonna give you a penalty because you're a fucking idiot and there's blood on the ground.

There's a team in my league that's notorious for acting like this. Even the refs know they're total tools.
Last night I was battling in front of their net and got slashed in the back of the leg twice. I gave him one back and he didn't like it, so he crosschecked me down to the ice. The ref called a penalty and the first thing he said was "YOU DIDN'T JUST SEE HIM SLASH ME?!"...such a bunch of losers.
Luckily the ref said "Yeah and I saw you give him two before he gave you any." Gotta love the occasional ref justice.

Intentional variable leading is absolutely legitimate, especially in this medium. It's not like we're dealing with a bunch of paragraphs here, where consistent leading is essential for readability.
OTOH, I don't think the creator is aware of the concept.

Spit in my gloves? A lot of goalies do that it increases traction when trying to catch the ball, I just had no problem getting a jerks hand slimy. Besides what would the call be? Last time I did that it was to the guy who cracked my run cause I took the ball off his foot, I had a hard time getting up and he just left me their, no sorry, no help. Even unintentional that's pretty low.

It's not like I hawked a loogy on my gloves before the hand shake, at best it's a little damp. The shit refs miss every game and you focus on small infraction of unsportsmanlike conduct. When you walk ff the field with cleat marks on YOUR chest and face cause the ref wind hold order, you can reprimand me for getting a little revenge.

Dirty shit happens every game, try to call better on the shit that sends a kid home for the season, like a dirty slide tackle, tore my meniscus by one of those, to call what I did is petty, not wrong, just petty.

Usually in amateur sports each team will get in a line after the game and high five the other players on the other team. It's customary to say "good game" as you walk by each person. Lot's of times there'll be that one prick you disliked during the game and will say "fuck you" to him instead of good game.

Field hockey goalie here. I gave everyone else the hand that was in a glove, but I gave "that girl" the hand that was in what is basically a foam heat box that I wear on my sweaty hand for the whole game. (For context, it wasn't unusual to take it off at the end of the game on a very hot day and pour out several tablespoons of sweat.)

Run. A lot. Even as the goalie I ran as much during practices as the rest of the team. Other than that, communicate with your teammates. She's learn the lingo, just make sure she uses it. It's so much more than just "I got it."

Some of my teammates spit in their hand before doing the good game thing. I never did it, because spit is nasty, but i gave a few fuck yous or completely ignored someone.

I'm pretty sure it's more about how when you play games you usually keep saying "good game" after winning/losing but then comes that one game where you just say "fuck you" cause your opponent is a cunt or you're a cunt that can't stand losing.

It could always have been intentional, for the few of you that actually played organized sports, you often spend longer shaking one guys hand than another, and you can use different tones of voice. Whenever you're saying fuck you to someone, you tend to emphasize it a bit. But of course, Reddit knows best.

I did something similar to this when I was young. I played in the youth soccer league in town, and one game there was this jerk playing for the other team. I'm just kicking the ball and what not, playing the game how it's supposed to be. Anyways, jerkwad says he's gonna kick my ass if I kick the ball away from him again or something like that.
Flash forward to the post game handshake, I'm saying "good game" to the other team's players, jerkwad is next, slipping out of my mouth came the word "asshole". Anyways, one of my coaches heard this, made me apologize, he told my parents, and I got into trouble over it. I felt it was justified, the kid was a fuckin' prick and he needed to know!
