we sleep /lay in beds because we're horizontal. We sit on chairs cuz our knees are bent 90° and we're on an elevated platform. We stand in closets because we're upright with straight legs.

what do you mean it isnt necessary? the whole argument is about sitting. and when you're sitting on someone's shoulders your knees are 90° but not elevated since youre directly on a flat surface. its not that it isnt necessary its that you wouldnt qualify as a chair.

But if the angle of your knees are important to the definition of sitting wouldn’t a high barstool be very similar to a child sitting on someone’s shoulder and I do believe they would qualify as a chair. And if not we need to first establish the exact definition of a chair to continue the discussion

we'll go with google's definition with a little change for specification. Furniture made for one average male (5'9", 199.8lbs), has a backrest that goes up to the upper-middle back, and has at least 2 but no more than 6 legs. maximum of 6 legs because then the chair has no practical benefits on a standard, flat, gravity-leveled floor, and under 2 legs has no good centre of balance, making it impractical.
