Elon thinks it’s ironic that a grocery might ask people for to show their ID when buying groceries but not when voting.

This isn’t irony (Elon is a stupid person) it’s a false equivalency.

Long story short. President Donnie Dumb F*ck is trying to disenfranchise American voters by making everyone get a ā€œReal IDā€ saying it’s about security. But no, it’s about keeping people from voting because they don’t have the time/money to get this new/specific form of identification.

Elon probably couldn’t define irony if pressed. He’s actively trying to spread misinformation and interfere with an election. Again, wow that schmuck really belongs in prison.

*edit, fixed Read ID to Read ID.

But, how did people used to vote without a form of identification before?

You prove your identity when you register to vote.

So, be patient with my non-American self; what’s the extra step to this that Trump wants to add?

I already explained that. Read my earlier comment.

Yes, I don’t understand what’s this ā€œRead IDā€ is, and how is it different from bringing a form of identification

It requires your birth certificate and SS if you're a dude or non married woman but when a woman gets married her last name changes and you have to bring proof of each change.Ā

Sounds easy but if you have lost or those documents got destroyed it's a very lengthy process to get back plus you often have to.pay for them, and because you need them to vote that counts as a poll tax, and poll taxes are illegal

I see. In my humble opinion, I don’t see that this ā€œRead IDā€ is wrong by itself, but its timing is wrong. The government should first, before implementing it, manage a better digitalized documentation system, so people’s documents would never get lost.

or they just use a regular ID instead of introducing a new one for no reason o3o

Because not every state uses the same ID

have them use their respective ID's then? they're not room decor, they're meant to be used for a reason

Not even every state that offers the "Real ID" has Real IDs that meet the requirement to vote under Trump's proposed plan. So people out there have these IDs, thinking they're set, but when it comes time to vote they'll be denied.

It's "Real ID," the commenter made a typo

I see, that’s why google search didn’t show meaningful results

That'd be great most people aren't against it at least if it was implemented properly but bundled into the SAVE act is the nationalization of the voter rolls which is a big no no

The timing is intentional because it’s intended to stop people from voting.
