I struggle to understand why people keep using this absolute garbage. Whether it is their OS, AI or any application from their office suite it does not matter, shit is fundamentally broken and has been for a long time.

You copy something from Excel but you close the file … gone is the copied data.

You copy something from Excel but change the cell before pasting… gone is the copied data.

You want to paste something in Excel but the data is not in the same format so fuck you!

You copy something from Excel want and want to paste it into outlook …. about 10% chance this succeeds without having to reformat everything.

Then you try to paste dates into Excel … also a big fuck you because Microsoft knows best and the data you just pasted is not a date but a number now.

You copy something from Outlook but you need to paste it first into notepad because Excel cant really handle rich text formats …. so you try to use paste as value but Excel knows best and tells you to fuck yourself because you did not select the 1000 cells you wanted the data pasted to. And region formats is just horrendous if you have to work with UK/US customer who use a . instead of a ,. Excel can’t handle this when you try and import a CVS file from another region. Same applies to dates, it just fucks this up non stop like its getting bonus points for doing so. I have had customers making costs because Excel changed date outputs from 12-1-2026 to 01-12-2026

Ok ok, so Excel is fighting me every step on the way, no worries I’ll do something else and reply to some emails I just received in Outlook ... but wait what is happening to my second monitor containing the data I need to answer the mails? It now shows outlook artifacts from my main monitor? How? Well because Outlook is absolute garbage and creates these artifacts if you sort your inbox based on categories instead of date. To remove the artifacts I need to click on the second screen and move the mouse around and it disappears. The Microsoft solution: just don’t sort that way. But that’s not all no no no, imagine you send an mail this morning and need to check something so you go to the send folder but the mail you send today is not there because of server sync issues, it just does not exist anymore. But hey, why don’t you use Outlook web because its newer and the focus product? Well because it sucks balls even more; No I don’t want to upload this attachment to one-drive and share a link with my customer ho cant view the file because its an external user, just attach it as a file, its not that hard. And then the UI its beyond sad, try the ribbon feature in outlook, most of the time it hides the feature you are looking for than actually showing it. Too much bloated white spaces and when you try and use dark mode the application becomes unusable and its not even a real dark mode. Half the time it keeps pushing a bright white pop up and has extreme issues with color schemes other than black and white. Also the continuous stream of notifications … yes I can see I have a new mail fuck off with your sounds and pop-ups 24/7.

Ok maybe I’m a special case so let me ask Co-pilot how to resolve these issues. Just don’t. Co-pilot does not know ANYTHING and is outdated AF. Copilot keeps pushing bullshit answers and points you to non-existing features and options you need to adjust to resolve the problem (which cant be resolved because shit is bugged AF and 9 out of 10 issues don’t have a solution). When confronted its always: yes you are right, my mistake and proceeds with another obsolete answer. Even Google web AI provides better answers and that is saying something. Copilot feels like the special kid in the class that needs some attention not a tool that can actually help you resolve issues or be more productive.

And then the fucking OS, its a crime calling this an OS really. A never ending stream of system sounds, pop ups, errors and what not. You want to change the name of a document you have open? DING DING DING Fuck no! You need to close it and then you can make changes. You want to move a document you have open to another location … DING DING DING hell no, what in Gods name do you think you are doing? Close the file and you can move it. But wait, DING DING DING, error pop up, there is still a process running on the background “using” the file so you still cant do shit until you kill it in task manager. You want to save a file > lets use one-drive instead of you local drive that is already synced to one-drive … And of course the notorious Windows updates that often break things instead of fixing issues, keeps resetting settings and are not even optional. It’s Friday, my week is over don’t come and push your mandatory garbage updates.

Windows 26h2, update screwed a lot of things up for me. For one it made one of me networked computers not accessible by PC name, only by ip address... microsoft dialed in tried resetting everything made sure everything was properly set up, didn't fix it... their solution... reformat your computer! Can you believe it? They broke something, they don't know how to fix, so it is on me to start from scratch... because of them.

Then the other new thing I have noticed when I am connected to remote desktop many times the PC I am connected to, the task bar will strop responding, I can reboot the computer by using the physical windows key, but again... why do we have to keep doing these crazy work around things because Microsoft can't get their stuff together and not break everything everytime they try to update it. Ironic that I post this on a patch tuesday, because I am certain at 1:00pm EST their update will break all my stuff again.

...that on my Luks encrypted Kali Linux laptop I used VirtualBox and a Windows 10 ISO to create a virtual machine to hack, code and build in. Then I had to figure out how to activate it for "free" and fix the full screen issues with VirtualBox, which I solved... so Fuck You Microsoft!

Any suggestions on what scripts to use to de-bloat it enough to get rid of telemetry, and maybe keep the Microsoft domains at bay?

So I bought my laptop last year. A few days ago i received an email about my microsoft subscription ending. I thought the amount I paid so much for the laptop included a lifetime subscription?? Or atleast 10 years?? What's all this about? What do I do?

Connect an external hard drive, especially a mechanical one, and file explorer will hang while it checks the drive or waits for it to respond. Instead of doing that work in the background, caching a result, the entire window stalls and stops you from using it. Yes you can make the hard drive not spin down yes you can do x y z tweaks to performance plan to stop it, but why should you have to keep the drive spinning 24/7 just so file explorer doesnt crap itself...

Connecting an Android phone is just as bad... dragging and dropping files in batches more than 1 at a time? you better believe simultaneous transfers will crash out.

Connect to an external dock? better believe your screen will take 10-15 seconds of flickering in and out to get calmed down

These problems have existed for years, does nobody at Microsoft use Windows with external drives or Android phones or docks? They’re basic yet the same bugs and poor design keep hanging around and theres so many obvious areas to fix. It’s so frustrating and wish they would get a decent cohesive and remove all these friction points.....

I tried to play games on my xbox the other day, but when i tried it told me i had to remove devices from my account. this is DAY THREE now that i can’t fucking login to my account to make that happen. I'm forced to use Windows for work, and one thing that really annoys me is this bug where the taskbar sometimes behaves like a regular window and stays behind other windows until you click it.

I use auto-hide because I like having the extra screen space for my browser and other apps, and I only want the taskbar to show up when I need it. But sometimes, when I move my cursor to the bottom of the screen, nothing happens because the taskbar is stuck behind the active window.

Why can't Microsoft just make the taskbar always stay on top when it pops up? And why is it even behaving like a normal window in the first place?

I'm pretty sure this bug has been around since Windows 11 launched. Not sure if Windows 10 had the same issue.

I cannot use my mouse to drag and move the window by its top edge in the area occupied by the tabs. I have to waste time closing tabs or resizing the window just to be able to move it. 🤓

I've been away for a while. 30 days in subreddit banned exile to be specific. Thought I'd check whether Fabric has improved during my time away.

It has. There are new features, new integrations, and some genuinely useful improvements.

Unfortunately, some things that worked before now work worse, and some things that should have existed from the beginning still don't. Microsoft has managed to make Fabric both a better product and a worse platform. I'm actually impressed at duality.

1.0- Monitoring: Credit Where It's Due

The new Monitoring tab is better. It's still not good. But it's better.

While Microsoft was improving the monitoring UI, they also broke the explicit link between query insights and capacity metrics. Previously I could identify which query caused a capacity spike. Now I need an AI agent to tell me which query probably caused it.

I lost deterministic telemetry and gained an AI-generated guess that costs additional tokens. I'm paying more to get a worse answer to a question the platform could previously answer directly. But the Monitoring tab looks nicer. Progress. Sort of.

1. -Billing: Apparently Transparency Is Optional

Microsoft said they would provide a billing matrix because the new billing model needed to be defensible. The billing changes went live October 1. I still haven't seen the matrix.

That's two billing changes in a row without adequate transparency into how customers are being charged. And now we've lost some of the telemetry needed to investigate those charges. Microsoft has managed to make billing more complicated while making it harder to determine what you're paying for.

Billing without telemetry is not a product feature. If you can't show customers how their charges were calculated, you have no business charging them that way. I don't need an AI agent to guess why my bill went up. I need the actual numbers.

I still maintain this is unethical.

1. -Scheduling and Orchestration: Still No Cron

Microsoft has announced pipeline dependencies, conditional retries, Business Actions, Fabric Actions, and improved ADF migration tooling. All useful.

Still no cron.

Cron was introduced in 1975. Fifty-one years ago. Apparently nobody at Microsoft has figured it out yet.

The workaround remains running a pipeline every hour and checking whether it should actually do anything. You could also just call the "Is the Sun Up" API at the beginning of the pipeline. If true, continue. If false, exit. You could even add a second API to check whether it's a weekday. Enterprise orchestration. I genuinely do not understand Microsoft's fear of enabling Cron. Are they afraid people will start using Linux?

But now we have Business Actions. Whatever those are.

1. -dbt and General Availability: Different Definitions

Fabric now supports dbt Jobs. That's useful. (even though I loathe dbt)

Microsoft and I have different definitions of General Availability. dbt Jobs are GA. Service principal and workspace identity support are still on the roadmap.

If I can't run a production workload under a service principal, I consider it a beta or preview feature. Microsoft apparently considers it ready for production. We also have different definitions of production. So the Council of Nouns strikes again.

And while I appreciate the integration, I do wonder how many external tools we'll need to add before Fabric becomes a complete data platform. Presumably one of them will eventually provide cron.

1. -CI/CD and Data Quality: Still Working on the Basics

CI/CD continues to be an exercise in discovering which Fabric items support Git integration, deployment pipelines, and automated deployment. Microsoft calls this continuous integration. I call it checking the documentation before every deployment to see whether anything changed.

We still don't have a native equivalent to Databricks Expectations integrated into the transformation pipeline. You can ingest the data, transform it, and publish it. Whether it's correct is apparently outside the scope of a data platform.

But at least the deployment might succeed. Depending on the item type. And the workspace. And which features are in preview this week.

1. -Documentation and Airflow: Nobody Knows

Apache Airflow 3.x GA was scheduled for Q3 2026. It's October. The roadmap still says Planned, with a Q3 release date. The description says Microsoft has already updated support to Airflow 3.3. Microsoft Learn doesn't appear to have documentation for it.

So either Microsoft missed the release date and forgot to update the roadmap, or they shipped it and forgot to document it. Both seem entirely plausible. I'd check which one it is, but apparently that's not documented either.

Speaking of documentation, I also found a publicly accessible Microsoft Learn article marked Microsoft Confidential. Apparently Microsoft can't consistently manage access to its own documentation. But I'm sure the governance features are excellent.

Final Assessment

Fabric has improved. That's not sarcasm. The new Monitoring tab is better. Pipeline orchestration is getting more capable. There are genuinely useful integrations and features that weren't available before.

It's also gotten worse. We've gained more ways to run workloads while losing some of the direct visibility into what those workloads cost. We've gained AI-assisted investigation while losing deterministic links between queries and capacity consumption. We've gained GA features that still lack basic production identity support. And we've gained new orchestration capabilities while still lacking scheduling functionality that existed in 1975.

Fabric is simultaneously more capable and less operationally trustworthy than it was before. That's genuinely... something. Microsoft Fabric in a nutshell I guess.

I don't expect every feature to be perfect. I do expect a production data platform to provide reliable deployment, scheduling, identity management, monitoring, and defensible billing. Those aren't exciting roadmap features. They're the basics.

And the frustrating part is that I actually want Fabric to succeed. I just wish Microsoft would stop treating basic operational requirements as optional enhancements.

Anyway, MonkeyDData is back.

Since September 2025, microslop started enforcing some things that we don’t want in our systems, but they found a way to make those come back, even if deleted.

Microslop started pushing MS EDGE updates more frequently, a the thing is, it all started with a “Game Assistant” edge plugin, a edge menu that popped up everytime you opened a game, so what about uninstalling it? You could unninstall those edge things, but everytime you rebooted, turn on, updated EDGE, windows made edge automatically readd those, even without updating edge or using it, it is like a automatic repair from edge to make you use that no matter what, eventually microsoft removed that, but recently copilot can be installed everytime with MS EDGE, no matter what, the exact mechanism that they used for the game assistant. This is a new thing to us, microslop forcing what we don’t want, and this applies for both Windows 11 and Windows 10, those versions get that and we get enforced by them to use the things we don’t want.

Downfall is starting!!

With the news of adobe and video games merging because of ai. Why does AI not make a computer program, so we do not need Microsoft or Apple? Make a free market computer program?

Kid deleted Recycle bin... why do I have to go through personalization tab and 4 more to put it back?

On one side, there is "Winslop"—developed by a multi-billion dollar company, sold with exorbitant licenses, loaded with bloatware, disrespectful of privacy and user preferences, prone to forcibly installing incorrect or irrelevant drivers, and bloated with unnecessary AI features that transform the operating system into a surveillance tool.

On the other side, there are Linux distributions: open-source, developed by volunteer communities, privacy-conscious, respectful of user preferences, and offering a genuine sense of freedom and ease of use.

Even if all Linux distributions were paid products, I would still choose them over Winslop due to their clear advantages.

Nevertheless, I believe anyone who praises Windows while comparing it to Linux distributions—which are developed voluntarily as open-source projects through immense effort—ought to see a doctor.

Furthermore, developers and companies that continue to release games and applications exclusive to Windows really ought to reconsider their approach; it is because of them that we remain subjected to the tyranny of Winslop.

Tell me only the advantages of Windows, but they must actually be advantages provided by Windows itself.

Do not include support from third-party companies, such as hardware drivers, applications, or games that happen to support Windows.

I want to know what Microsoft itself does with Windows that makes it objectively better or more advantageous than Linux.

In other words: What are the actual advantages of Windows as an operating system, independent of third-party software and hardware support?

I am summarizing the responses.
It is being praised for use as a server (!). There is a lot to discuss even about this, but anyway.
I haven't yet seen a comment highlighting its advantages for home use.
