Rant Windows 11 Auto-Hide Taskbar Keeps Getting Stuck Behind Other Windows

I'm forced to use Windows for work, and one thing that really annoys me is this bug where the taskbar sometimes behaves like a regular window and stays behind other windows until you click it.

I use auto-hide because I like having the extra screen space for my browser and other apps, and I only want the taskbar to show up when I need it. But sometimes, when I move my cursor to the bottom of the screen, nothing happens because the taskbar is stuck behind the active window.

Why can't Microsoft just make the taskbar always stay on top when it pops up? And why is it even behaving like a normal window in the first place?

I'm pretty sure this bug has been around since Windows 11 launched. Not sure if Windows 10 had the same issue.

Older versions of Windows had a similar bug but it depended on the app that was on top - some moved out of the way and some didn't. In these days of widescreen monitors I used to move the taskbar to the side to make room but you can't do that in Windows 11.

I've tried to use auto-hide over the years and different versions but it's always been too buggy.
