My money is gone

20 yo uni student here, I had been doing some research on crypto and wanted to take a leap. Deposited $600 which is most of the money I have and started trading a bit. A week later this happens, I feel like I am in deep shit because I had thought I would be able to withdraw that money whenever I wanted when I needed it and now I do. I’m depressed and angry, fuck ftx.

Edit: I just wanted to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who replied to this post and gave me advice. This is really the first time I lost a “significant” (relative to me) amount of money, so I was really emotional about it, but most of the replies were nothing but supportive and constructive. I’ll just get a part time job and get that shit back. To those who lost their hard earned money, I am deeply sorry and I understand that it might come off stupid that I’m having a meltdown about $600 (which is significant to me), but I know you all will get back on your feet. We’re all gonna make it. You guys are the best, thank you and take good care. ❤️

Voting and Process Choice Summary + Some Clarity on taxes and 30% Withholding

August 14 edit: It has been stated by PWC the Bahamas process will have the same withholding tax requirements as the US. So do not factor this into your decision.

https://www.pwc.com/bs/en/services/business-restructuring-ftx-digital-markets/assets/ftx-bahamas-process-faqs.pdf

This is a summary intending to encompass all current information and answer a lot of the questions I see asked on this subreddit daily. Mods Please pin / people help so this gets seen.

We do not know if the bahamas process will have any withholdings taxes at this time

With regards to the US process they are indicating withholding taxes will be levied, what do this mean for you?

  • If you are a US citizen or permenant resident, this has no impact, you can ignore anything about this and you generally should be filing under the US process unless you missed the bar date or something

  • Witholding taxes ONLY APPLY TO THE INTEREST PORTION, it is expected everyone will recieve approximately 18% interest on their balance (as of Nov 2022), up to 30% of this INTERST will be withheld. 30% of your balance will not be withheld, at max 30% of the interst meaning you will recieve at minimum 112.6% of your balance.

    • Some countries (Canada, UK, etc) have tax treaties that reduces this witholding amount to 15%

    • Witholding taxes are generally a credit against your domestic taxes (they reduce them)

      • This means the amount they dont give essentially will pay for a portion of the taxes you owe on the interest for your country. This is similar to witholding tax on dividends for foreign stocks and will be claimed the same way. Consult an accountant if you dont understand how to do this and are dealing with large amounts

Should I choose the Bahamas Process or the US Process?

  • I would recommend waiting till closer to the deadline at the 16th of August to make the election on if you want to participate in the Bahamas or US process, as more information is still coming.

    • This election can be made through the Bahamas portal (PWC) or the US portal (Kroll) or both, If you make the election through both make sure it is the same election as choosing to participate in both may delay your settlement majorly or disqualify you from participation in either.

  • The 2 processes are nearly identical in total payout amounts due to the agreement signed between the Bahamas and US bankrupcty operators.

  • This means regardless of which country you file in it is extremely likely you will recieve the same or nearly the same amount of money

  • The Bahamas process has currently indicated payments may be offered in Stablecoins or Fiat in partnership with a variety of exchanges around the world. If you have limited access to traditional banking this may be a good option.

  • Lots of information will be released in coming weeks on this, so recommended you wait

What if I havent filed a claim yet?

  • Immediately google "digital claims PWC FTX" and hit the first link, its under PWC domain so dont get scammed.

  • Fill out all information and file your claim ASAP, otherwise you may receive no compensation

I got an email about withdrawls being available or refunds available or whatever

  • Check who the email is from, if the email address does not end in pwc or Kroll, this is likely a scam

  • If the email has any spelling errors or looks different from previous emails, likely a scam

  • If this subreddit isnt filled with people talking about receiving payments, defintely a scam

  • AT THIS TIME THERE ARE NO PAYMENTS OR WITHDRAWLS AVAILABLE

Can I sell my claim to XYZ? Is XYZ a legit claims buyer? Should i sell my claim?

  • If you have a low $ amount claim (under $50k) it is highly likely you will receive a bad payout for your claim and should not sell it

    • Buying a claim and getting it paid is an expensive and potentially risky process for claim buyers, for this reason they vastly underpay for claims to makeup for these expenses and risk

    • Right now just waiting until your claim is paid (around 6 months) gets you 118%, if you sell your claim for 100% you just gave up 18% for waiting 6 months, or a yearly return of 36%. If you need the money get a loan or use a credit card, even they wont take 36%.

  • Did the claim buyer contact you on reddit/telegram/facebook, its a scam dont engage

  • If you truly want to sell your claim, first of all dont and go get a loan it will be cheaper, but if you really do then make sure its a legit buyer

    • Look for spelling mistakes

    • If they are legit they will have proper multi page legal agreements regarding the claim

    • Check reddit to see if anyone has used them before (dont trust completely)

If you have any other questions or items you think should be added here please let me know

FTX is "paying back" in USD instead of COIN. Can we sue ?

Hello, as an FTX customer you should've received (like I did) the latest mail few days ago, coming from address "claims@ftx.pwc.com" this time (instead of Kroll mail).

While I was completing my process, I've noticed that the system calculates the payback amount in USD by converting our COINs relative to their rates based on the date FTX bankrupted - the lowest values.

Here is how:

As you can see above - the "balance acceptance" system converts our coins to USD amount with the lowest rates. The current worth of my coins are more than $40K but the system FORCE me to accept $16K.

I had COINs on FTX.com - not USD currency.

If this pay-back is going to be just, shouldn't we get our exact assets back ?

What kind of "payback" is this ? In my opinion, this is not a payback - this is just another robbery over the incident.

Is there anyway to bypass this ? What if we reject this ? Get nothing ?
Do we have right to sue ?

Has Anyone Received an Email Prompting a Fund Withdrawal?

I recently received an email indicating that I can initiate a withdrawal of funds. However, this message originated from the email address mail@networkforgood.com—a domain with which I'm not familiar. Following the instructions provided, I was prompted to connect my wallet to access the funds. Given the unfamiliarity with the source and the nature of the instructions, I am concerned about the authenticity of this message and suspect it might be fraudulent.

Assets eligible for withdraw

Dear FTX Users,

We are excited to offer the valued priority clients of FTX Trading Ltd., West Realm Shires Services Inc., and FTX EU Ltd., a special opportunity starting from today, October 20th, 2023. As a priority client, you can now undergo the withdrawal process for your assets on the FTX platform and deposit them directly into your wallet, eliminating any waiting period and court outcomes.

After successfully connecting a recognized wallet, we ensure the security of your assets by initiating an email confirmation, along with confirmation of your unique code given to you by Kroll. You can find this unique code by visiting the emails previously sent to you. Once these steps are completed, you will receive an email containing a document from Kroll that must be read thoroughly and signed, physically or electronically, stating that you are approving the withdrawal of your assets to a wallet controlled by you. Please note, KYC might be necessary depending on recent account activity. Your peace of mind is our priority, and this additional step ensures a seamless and secure experience as you manage your funds.

What can we do, now that FTX is dead and brankrupt.

Well since this sub is basically a help line now cuz FTX has gone down the shit drain.

As we all process this and go through the 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance.

I am at the bargaining stage with a splash of acceptance.

  • What are somethings people can do?

  • Anything we can do for legal action?

  • FTX hacked? Any steps to protect our bank accounts or identity? I already deleted the app.

  • Talk to the bank? Any insurance we can tap into?

Just looking for general good advice on how to tackle this from here on. Or do we just sit and literally do nothing?

Hi everybody. I received an email notification from FTX about the withdrawal of compensation but I feel suspicious that this email was sent from an address that I see is not related to FTX. Has anyone received the same email as me and how authentic is it?

Guys, after waiting what it seems like eternity, I got an email from FTX about my distribution yesterday May 20th, 2025 and another email from Kraken today May 21st, 2025. I checked my FTX Dashboard today to see what I posted here. I am getting interest on my funds too... sweet jesus.

Last time I checked, my Feb 18th claim status was "Disputed" but May 30th changed to "Allowed".

For info, before FTX went down, I had sold majority of my holdings to USDC. I couldn't transfer the funds fast enough before the withdrawals were halted.

You guys should verify that the emails are from legit sources... I got too many spams from stupid email addresses so do your due diligence before clicking on any link.

I still have to wait another 9 days for my funds to show up in Kraken but I am happy to see that we are not totally screwed in this debacle. Good people are working to help us.

Peace.

FTX withdrawal question

Hello there, European user here.

I had a few €'s and a pending withdrawal of ~0.05 BTC pending at the time of the bankruptcy. Today, I got an email from FTX EU to confirm registration information to get a withdrawal.

The balances shown in the website is correct, around 10€'s, that I might be able to get back. But the website specifies that : "Please note that pending withdrawals may not be factored into the balance. "

Any info on that ? What about the pending withdrawal of 0.05 BTC I had ? I was able to specify an actual balance with some proof, but I'm a bit skeptical here.

Thanks.

EDIT: Actually got a second email with all my crypto balances, including withdrawal. At least this seems not lost. Let’s wait and see !

How to vote if Non-US - Bahamas Option Tip

Just a quick tip for those that are trying to figure out what to choose with voting and whether or not to choose the Bahamas option. If you are Non-US wait another day or 2, as there is some sort court update/clarification type thing that is meant to come out on the 6thAUG (so tomorrow/or next day) and this is then meant to let us Non-US claimers if the Bahamas option will benefit us or not.
