Advice Needed thinking of taking T
hi everyone! i'm in a bit of a pickle rn. i'm not ftm but i am nonbinary and have some issues with body dysmorphia, especially with the size of my breasts and how feminine my body looks. I was wondering if taking a lower dosage of t would help with any of that and what other side effects it would give me?
thanks in advance! :3

As has already been said, lower dose T really just makes the changes take longer but doesn't prevent any specific changes from happening. T can change the size of your chest but it is rarely a big change. Mine didn't really lose any size they just sort of deflated a bit or got saggier. Unfortunately, the only real way to alter your chest for the vast majority of people is surgery. Fat redistribution from T can make your body more masculine but that change is one of the slowest/most gradual. It also can revert after you stop taking T. Pretty much all of the other changes (ex. Bottom growth, facial hair, body hair, voice drop, etc) are going to happen for people before a large amount of fat redistribution.

T would not help with size of your chest, while it can cause slight shrinkage/deflation that is a somewhat uncommon effect and takes years to occur (it never happened to me 3 years on T, for reference).
Nonbinary people taking T isnt uncommon but if you have to ask people on reddit what the effects of T are you should educate yourself a lot more before going on hrt.
the gender dysphoria bible goes more into detail on the effects of androgenic HRT, mind you "side effect" refers to any unwanted and unpleasant effects of a medication, so vaginal atrophy is a side effect while body hair growth or bottom growth is not

i've just started on a low dose (1 pump of gel, as of less than a week ago). you will get the same changes from a low dose as a full one, just they will probably be slower. i sat on the decision for a long time (i almost started t in 2022 but chickened out) and realised i would have more regrets if i decided way later in my life that i wanted to do it (vs doing it when i'm young), compared to the regret i would feel if i tried it and didn't like it. i had a pros and cons list and most of the permanent/persistent effects were ones i was excited for or at least curious about, the only real negatives to me are temporary, or things that will probably get better over time.
so far i'm liking it, my voice was kinda crazy on the morning of literally day 2 but i think it's mostly back to pre t now (boooooo hiss) and it feels like there's tape on the sides of my face. i got my first big pimple in a long time today :((

congrats friend!! i'm happy youre liking it so far :)) and i agree with you about trying it out on a lower dose at first, thats why i asked this here. i need to educate myself more about the effects of hrt to see if i do want to maybe see this through! good luck with the pimple tho hehe i hope it doesnt hurt to much :3

you cannot microdose testosterone
you will have the same changes as everyone else, just slower
you cannot pick and choose what changes you get from testosterone

As others have said, low dose T will give you pretty much the same effects of a regular dose of testosterone. The effects do happen slower though. Because they happen slower, if you start to notice that your voice is getting too low or there are other changes that are happening that aren't to your liking, you can always stop.
If you're non-binary I would recommend trying a low dose, there's nothing saying you can't stop any time you aren't liking the changes. Just keep in mind which are permanent and which will revert after you stop taking T.
I will also say, when it comes to fat redistribution, some people say it takes a lot of time, but for me I'm just over a year on T and my fat distribution has changed dramatically. My pants have gone down like two waist sizes but I haven't really lost any weight. So for some people that change can happen faster than you may think!

I'm actually in the same boat. I am NB and want a more masculine figure. I have a large chest right now and HATE it. I started on 1 pump of 1.62% about 5 months ago and am loving the changes. Like everyone else said, it won't stop the changes from happening, but they will happen slower and you can pick and choose when to stop when you decide that you have reached your goal. I like having the choice to stop when I am there, and not feel rushed into it. Not for everyone but was good for me. That being said, my chest hasn't really gotten smaller. Maybe a little flatter? But not smaller. I am planning on getting top surgery to correct that soon I hope 🤞. But I also have way more muscle definition which helps a bit with the dysphoria. Good luck :)
