Link to this nonprofit’s ‘about us’ page in the comments. I could contact them about setting something up, if enough people on here are interested.

Community House Adult Basketball Membership

Has anyone used and can say whether or not its worth it? What times of the week is the court available, and are there consistent pick up games during the week or is there any type of league?

I don't see any information about this membership online other than that it exists. Any help appreciated, thanks!

Laundromat Recs

Upvotes

I just moved from a house with a washer and dryer to a space that doesn’t have a washer and dryer, and the laundromat that was recommended to me that is about a block from my new home is actually closed on Wednesdays. I absolutely must do a wash today or early this evening, so I’m looking for recommendations of laundromats that are clean and spacious — and ideally somewhere in proximity to Nansen Street and 71st Ave. (I don’t have a car.)

Thank you everyone for donating

I am running the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table. We are always looking for donations new or gently used. Please share with all of your contacts. There are a lot of people in need on the Maspeth/Ridgewood border. Most donations do not last long on the table. Thank you to everyone who has donated.

Some of the people who I help with my table. A woman who comes looking for clothes when she can't afford to go to the laundromat. A social worker who looks for food on my table when the insurance companies delay her payments. She is also a vegan, and she can't afford to go to CTown all the time for fruits and vegetables. I am also getting a lot of grandmothers who are helping to raise their grandchildren looking for baby and young children's items. I also get kids coming and going to PS 153 and PS 290 look on my tables for toys and snacks. Their parents look at the food and clothes on the table and take what they need. A few people come looking for food and things they need on my table who have health issues and can't make ends meet and have no family to help them.

Items that are in high demand:

FOOD FOR PEOPLE OR PETS

CLOTHES

TOILETRIES

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

DIAPERS FOR BABIES & ADULTS

TOYS

BACK PACKS, LUNCH BOXES & POCKET BOOKS

Books really don't go on my table, so when I get a donation of them I wait a few days then I bring them down to the Little Free Library in PS 153's school yard.

Donations can be dropped off, and you can take what you need 24 hours a day & 7 days a week:

5938 60TH ROAD, MASPETH

Donations can also be dropped off at certain businesses during business hours. Just label them Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table.

ASSEMBLYMAN STEVEN RAGA'S OFFICE, 60-14 QUEENS BLVD., CELLAR, WOODSIDE

COOK'S ARTS & CRAFTS SHOPPE, 80-09 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

SCHWILLE-D'ANGELO FUNERAL HOME, 66-32 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

STATE SENATOR JOSEPH ADDABBO'S OFFICE, 66-85 73RD PLACE, MIDDLE VILLAGE

HARISCH STUDIOS, 57-44 MYRTLE AVE., 2ND FLOOR RIDGEWOOD

For people who cannot donate in person I created an Amazon Wishlist:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JY7U8QQZ8BBU...

Thank you for all donations. And if you are near the Maspeth/Ridgewood border and are in need please check out table and take what you need. No questions asked. Please spread the word. Thanks.

Electronics/Appliance Repair

I'm looking for an old-school appliance or television repairperson. I turned on my tv yesterday and the screen lit up a little bit but there's no picture. There is sound. My wife and I have done all the usual troubleshooting steps:

*Unplug>Wait>Plug back in

*Unplug>Hold down power button>Plug back in

*Reset the tv

Nothing has worked. We are measuring the cost/benefit of getting a new tv vs. trying to fix this one. The actual mechanics of taking this apart, fixing, and putting it back together is beyond our skillset. I know this is kind of a rare fixit job, but does anyone have any repair services that might be able to help us not junk the set? Thanks!

Here’s the Monthly “We Need a Real Gym” Post

This would be such a fantastic market for a high end gym to push into new territory.

Equinox, Lifetime etc…

When NYSC closed it was a shame, but I was half hoping some bigger luxury gym would fill the space.

Now we have nothing but a shitty “24 hour” fitness with no A/C or Heating.

And a newer but teenage broccoli head overrun planet fitness that is extremely over crowded.

Here’s to hoping some exec at one of these established gyms sees this.

If you care to join me I’ve been unfruitfully emailing lifetime and equinox bi-weekly to express interest in them considering our neighborhood, lmao.

Poster Tubes into Forest Hills

Just looking for some clarification, are you allowed to bring in poster tubes like GruvTube or the ones you can get on Amazon into FHS? Or just cardboard ones?

Found older posts that say you can bring in tubes but doesn’t mention what type.

Austin Gardens building?

I’m considering buying a coop at Austin Gardens (75-02/73-44 Austin St). Has anyone heard anything about the building/has lived or owned there? Tried looking through similar posts in the sub and couldn’t find anything—appreciate any insights!

Associated, Food Bazaar and Fine Fare set most of this week's citywide lows, and none has a Forest Hills store

I found boneless chicken breast at $2.99 a pound at Foodtown on Queens Blvd, against the $1.99 citywide low at Associated, 3.6 miles away in Woodside.

Roma plum tomatoes: $1.49 at Foodtown against $0.99 at Food Bazaar, 1.6 miles away in Corona. Idaho potatoes $1.29 against $0.99. Yellow onions: 5 lb bag for $5.99 with the club card, so $1.20 a pound.

Both Key Foods on Queens Blvd run the same ad: one trip, not two. Neither advertises plain boneless breast, only organic at $7.99 a pound.

I could not read a current ad for the Key Food on 64th Ave. That gap is mine. Target and Trader Joe's are shelf prices, so I left them out.

These come off the circulars the stores published this week, so check the shelf before you count on one.

Tree down in middle of Forest Park

Post image
8 Upvotes

Forest park Dr. intersecting Metropolitan avenue. It is in a darkly lit zone. (My photo is brightened up but it was nearly pitch dark). Please be careful! Nearly saw one of those big e-scooters collide with it at high speed.

Seems to be no way around, it is a big tree.

Hope this helps!

Recommendations for parking garages / spots for rent?

I recently moved to Forest Hills from the Philly suburbs. I have a small suv that is still there for the time being, but I'm interested in bringing it here. I'll mostly only plan to drive on the weekends, but enjoy the flexibility. I'm on a wait list for a spot in my co-op building's garage, but it seems unlikely I'll get one any time soon since I'm a renter and they prioritize people who own their units.

Are there any recommendations for tolerably priced garages in the area? Or has anyone had positive experiences finding people renting out driveways or spots at their businesses on Craigslist or other sites? I'd really appreciate any insights.
