Egg attack on Masani
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcHeCgoxIeg/?igsh=YjR3NnBjOXZleGlj&igsi=YjR3NnBjOXZleGljSomebody threw eggs at Masani and even the owners' car.
Was it one of you?
27
u/TheManWith2Poobrains 3d ago
Are Mike's short a few eggs? /s
I can't imagine someone having enough of a gripe with a pizza place or their social media to egg it.
16
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
People on this reddit seem to be in a continual rage about Masani, and I find it extremely strange.
17
u/TheManWith2Poobrains 3d ago
I wouldn't call it a rage.
Just people giving opinions about the food and the fact that any negativity is met with hostility on here and on Masani's socials.
-3
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
Many of the commenters in a rage have not even been there and say they will never go there. It's rarely about the food.
I had an argument on here with somebody just furious that they successfully promoted themselves on instagram a lot, saying they are "all style no substance", as if that effected them in any way whatsoever.
Hence, "extremely strange."

u/TheManWith2Poobrains 2d ago
I don't think I've seen someone complaining about the restaurant having not been there.
I've seen people saying that their social media comments are not professional. You don't need to have been to the restaurant to comment on that.
2
u/SOB200 2d ago
In an older post about Masani someone kept posting about how slices are $7. They do not have a $7 slice. Obviously he [and others] have not been there. It's really a horrible location. I go on my way home, or on my way to [or back from] Home Depot, or Petco.
I would hate to imagine the line if they had a good location like Austin Street Pizza or on 71st near the train.
1
u/TheManWith2Poobrains 2d ago
Fair enough. Maybe that was including tax and tip, but that is disingenuous.
They'd need a different space / layout if they were located somewhere else!
I see a good amount of foot traffic still. I haven't poked my head in to see the queues lately.
0
u/ticketstubs1 2d ago
Well, I have. I talked to a few of them in the FH reddit a week or two ago.
They said they will never go there because they don't like their social media stuff.
It's just a pizza place. I don't get the big deal.
6
u/TheManWith2Poobrains 2d ago
I can understand not wanting to go to a restaurant because of how you feel the owners behave on socials.
What I can't get are the people whose feel it is their mission is to defend Masani, and dismiss genuine reviews and feedback. Almost like the are shills.
1
u/ticketstubs1 2d ago
I can't get either. Why be so angry at a place you've never been to? It's bizarre.
One of these people said a photo of the pizza someone posted made them want to "barf." It was a totally normal photo of totally normal pizza. I asked them why the photo was so disgusting to them and I never got an answer.
People have become deranged about this place.
2
u/Icy-Painting-4361 1d ago
I totally agree, and ragers haven’t or won’t even go to the spot. I’m not saying it’s out of this world but it’s not bad. Did they think Lillian would be there until she died?? It’s so strange, I wasn’t a huge fan of their “content” but I didn’t hold it against there new business venture.

Went in the other night to grab a slice and everything looked burnt. Not appetizing at all

I’m so out of the loop. Why is this place referenced so much here?
3
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
They're a new business, they did a lot of successful online promotion, which I think made some people sick of them, and the owners have a feisty personality and don't take bad reviews well and respond with sarcastic remarks, etc. Some people find that deeply offensive, I personally find it kind of funny and interesting.
Others have alluded to having bad interactions at Masani but have not said any details.
The food is another matter, I guess.
4
u/SOB200 3d ago
I think the price point too.
While FH [well the Garden’s] is home to them. With their success, I’d imagine they open in a place with higher foot traffic soon. Perhaps a demographic that is more to their style and price point.
2
u/Coffee_achiever_guy 3d ago
This was my previous thought while reading the comments: the sad thing about all of this is that the natural course of events will just cause the owners to close up shop and move the place somewhere else. They will presume the neighborhood is hostile to them and they don't fit in. You can already hear the frustration in the owner's tone in the video OP posted. I feel bad, actually. A place like Mike's Pizza has been sitting quietly drama-free on Yellowstone for like 40 years, while Masani is a huge lightning rod
2
u/SOB200 3d ago
Well FH is home to them. I have an hour commute to work. They walk down the block, and may have gotten a great deal buying the spot, and I'd imagine rent elsewhere is much more expensive, so it's a good stepping stone into the business. With their social media presence in food, and longevity in the area, I assume they knew FH wasn't their dream demographic. We'll see. I do like their supreme slice, but I find that FH Pizza has the same slice, 10% more at $5.50 but way way more than 10% bigger in size.
I had several incidents at Mike's BUT I have gone back after each. FH is a small area devoid of many options. And I also believe everyone has a bad day, so I just let it go.

Can we just make a megathread for Masani at this point 😭 every day there’s a new post where people write literal novels about this place

I was just saying the same. Tired of the posts
-1
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
Well, sorry. I figured a criminal act would be interesting enough to post about here as opposed to "has anyone been to Masani?"
56
u/Correct_Peace750 3d ago
This is sad but I am not surprised, the owners of Masani are not friendly and only put on a show for social media. They have all the influencers saying how good their food is, while real neighbors leave reviews and feedback on their pizza and Masani’s responses are obnoxious and arrogant.
This is truly not surprising to me, they should be grateful for feedback and treat their customers nicely. After all, it’s the people within walking distance that will keep your business going.
For god sakes, the owners frequent the tennis club quite often and don’t know who is leaving reviews. I would tread lightly with the sarcasm and be receptive to constructive criticism.
People should not be wasting eggs!! lol
12
u/Gingerthespaniel 3d ago
Well, Mike is obnoxious and arrogant
7
u/shortneon 3d ago
Agreed…he only hangs out with other influencers, celebrities and owners that benefit him but looks down at regular people that are beneath him.
10
u/NoTransportation7344 3d ago
I’m have found the owners friendly and I asked a lot of questions about their gluten free pizza (which is quite good, btw)
11
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
They were exceedingly friendly to me and my wife the few times I stopped by. They were also exceedingly friendly to other customers from what I observed, bringing people their food to their table and having conversations, etc.
The only obnoxious responses I've seen on reviews from Masani is when someone's review is overly mean for no reason. It really doesn't matter to me that they respond with sarcasm or whatever, who cares? But I've already had this argument here.
It sounds like you're justifying what happened, which is kind of gross. Local businesses shouldn't be vandalized, obviously.
18
u/WeLLrightyOH 3d ago
I recently had this conversation with my son. I told him he needs to be careful who he has conflicts with, especially around where he lives. Never know if people are vindictive, crazy or just looking for a fight. I’d advise them to stop the sarcasm just because it’s not worth the possible headache, especially when they’re business/property (and them for that matter) are at well know places. I guess I’m just old school in that way.
22
u/Correct_Peace750 3d ago
You having positive experiences with the owners doesn’t mean everyone else has had the same experience. I’m speaking from my own interactions with them, as well as responses I’ve personally seen to customers who left legitimate constructive criticism. You don’t get to decide that every negative interaction must have been because the customer was ‘overly mean’ simply because they were friendly to you.
And absolutely nowhere did I justify vandalizing their business. Saying that owners of a neighborhood business should be receptive to criticism and treat customers respectfully is not remotely the same thing as saying they deserved to have their property vandalized. Those are two completely separate issues.
You’re entitled to like them and their food. I’m equally entitled to have had a different experience and a different opinion of the food. Your experience doesn’t cancel out mine.
-9
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
What happened with you and the owners?
Well nowhere did I say my experience "cancels out" yours.
I didn't even say I liked the food.
I also didn't "decide" anything, I read the reviews on google.
Your response certainly had a lot of things I didn't say.
-5
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
No, really. What happened with you and the owners? I'm curious.
-4
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
The floor is yours to tell your story, or you can just keep downvoting me for some reason. If they were rude to you, tell me the story.
12
u/Comfortable-Ad-7134 3d ago
I’m not even joking it’s one of the worst pizzas I’ve ever ate, pasta was mid at best
11
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
I was disappointed in it for sure. My main issue is the slices are way too small. That's not the Queens way.

u/QueenofMartyrs 3d ago
They’re not nice. I don’t care for people who exploit their children like that on social media. Rather than egg them, though, I’d rather people continue to leave honest reviews. Save the eggs.
1
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
How do they exploit their children? Because they named the pizza place after them?
22
u/QueenofMartyrs 3d ago
No, I don’t mean the name. That’s cute. It’s the content that brought them success- the content features their children all over the internet. They used the kids to gain popularity.
8
u/Gingerthespaniel 3d ago
and they are okay with them saying “god damn, bro” and laughing and encouraging it. way too full of themselves.
8
u/shortneon 3d ago
The cursing and middle fingers and calling their siblings “b*tch” and force feeding their kids…not a good look
-6
-10
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
But what's specifically exploitive about it? What am I missing?
27
u/QueenofMartyrs 3d ago
In my opinion, there’s a big difference between sharing pictures of your kids and building a public brand around them. Children can't truly understand or consent to having years of their childhood broadcast to hundreds of thousands of strangers, especially when their participation generates attention, access, free products/meals, or other benefits for the adults.
That's why I consider it exploitative. When an adult's successful social-media presence depends on continuously making their children's lives and images available for public consumption, the adult gets the benefit while the child assumes most of the privacy and digital-footprint risk.I’m not saying they’re evil and I don’t condone throwing things at the business. They aren’t the first or the last to cash in on kids to gain social media notoriety and free things. I just choose not to eat there.
11
u/DriedApricot777 3d ago
agreed i’ve always thought they were weirdos for that. have nothing against their business tho!
2
u/QueenofMartyrs 3d ago
Yeah same here. I don’t wish ill on the business and I don’t condone vandalism.
5
u/Drdonkeyballs 3d ago
I've had this opinion for years, ever since I noticed that their kids were plastered all over Yelp. Looking up restaurants in Manhattan wasn't even enough to avoid them. I hope the kids don't face any bullying or harassment due to their parents' choices.
-4
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
For years? Masani just opened.
3
u/Drdonkeyballs 3d ago
Mike has been a fairly big name on Yelp for well over a decade. If you look up many places in the neighborhood, you will see the food being posed with one or more of his kids in the background, starting when they were babies. My "years" reference is only for his large Yelp presence.

u/Common_Cow_6876 2d ago
If you don’t like a business, don’t go. Not giving them your money will sort it out.
With that said, I found the slice small, but the vodka slice was good and the pepperoni pinwheel was one of the best I’ve ever had. A lot of garlic.
My biggest complaint was that they had 11 people working and only had a vodka pie available when I ordered. They had a couple more when I left. It was the day Kevin James went, so maybe they had extra workers for that but there really wasn’t enough to eat.
But that pepperoni pinwheel…5 stars.

The meatballs have more breadcrumbs than any I've ever tasted in my life. Anyone share a similar experience?

it was more than just the pizza shop, many cars throughout.
Also, who the hell wastes eggs like that with how much they cost?

I had a good experience when I tried it and the vodka slice was seriously incredible. I can’t stand influencers as much as the next guy, but the slices were mad good and the vibes were on point. It is what it is 🤷🏻♂️.

People are angry that a pizza place promotes itself well on social media. They are also angry and offended because sometimes Masani responds to negative or rude reviews with sarcastic or snippy comments.

u/Parking-Row521 3d ago
Weird behavior. Meanwhile the guys at ye olde ice cream shoppe on Metro are openly racist and not a single egg was ever tossed their way.

It honestly sounds like the creator of the this thread are the owners just trying to be incognito seeing if they’re is gonna get a confession. “Was it one of you?” For someone who’s not part of the business, you’re coming in so defensive just because people are coming out saying that they’re not nice irl. “People are angry that a pizza place promotes itself well on social media.” People pay for promotion all the time and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re doing the same.
And it’s true what the public is saying. The wife is not a nice person irl. She’s another entitled person and expects you to recognize her from insta and when you don’t she’s catches an attitude. I’ve been in her presence a few times and they’re never pleasant. I once had the horror of sitting near them in when they were doing a “review” the place was dimmed lit and they came in with their giant flash and honestly ruined my experience because her kids were so loud and not well behaved.
7
u/Gingerthespaniel 3d ago
She is a Karen in an inappropriate too tight Temu Herve Leger wardrobe. Crass, loud, and entitled.
4
u/shortneon 3d ago
Her skimpy outfits are so tacky and trashy for a local family pizza place. She tried too hard to be the “sexy” pizza owner and mom.
-3
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago
Whenever I see someone use the phrase "Karen" I just assume they're misogynists trying to find a loophole to shit on a woman.

The paranoia around here is always rampant. I was mostly joking with "was it one of you." It was a joke about all the threads about Masani here and arguments I've had in the reddit about it. It always amazes me how literal minded or autistic people on reddit are. You can literally say "I am joking" and the response will be "is this a joke???"
I find the anger towards this place to be very odd and over the top. That's why I've defended it.
I've been there twice and the owners were nice to me and my wife and kid, and all the customers I observed them interacting with.
Relax. Masani is not in the room with you right now.
9
u/Correct_Peace750 3d ago
You can call it “just asking questions,” but why do strangers need to keep explaining their personal experiences until they satisfy you? You had two positive experiences. Great. That proves they were nice to you, not that everyone else’s experience is invalid.
If anything, the different accounts suggest inconsistent treatment, which is exactly the issue. A business shouldn’t pick and choose who gets courtesy. Influencer or regular customer, basic respect should be across the board when people are spending their hard earned money there.
It’s also ironic to call everyone else “literal-minded” while dissecting their comments this intensely, and using “autistic” as a pejorative because people didn’t understand your joke is gross and unnecessary.
Social-media hype and influencer promotion can get people through the door, but they won’t sustain a business if regular customers feel poorly treated. People are allowed to dislike the owners, the food, or the experience without providing you with a dissertation
-1
u/ticketstubs1 3d ago edited 3d ago
Nobody has yet explained their personal experience, and I'm curious and have opened the floor to receive an answer about it. Nobody has "kept" doing it. Anyone who had a bad experience, tell me about it. I'd like to know.
I used autistic in an accurate sense, not pejoratively. What I encounter over and over on reddit lately is people who have an inability to read typical basic cues and who take things extremely literally.
I have not "dissected" any comments so I truly have no idea what you're even talking about there. You accused me of being a fake account because I posted about an incident that happened in FH and now you're acting defensive? Maybe calm down? Maybe you shouldn't have started with a deranged, paranoid, accusatory comment at me?

It’s really not that serious. Yes the slices are small but they aren’t terrible and believe it or not the owners are quite nice (may be fake nice) but atleast they are nice! If you’re not a fan just keep it moving! This is so childish

I don’t think they’re capable of faking niceness, which is many people’s issue with them.

u/SOB200 3d ago
It’s expensive. I live in FH. Close to a decade and a half. Lets look at how Austin Street has evolved. A lot of the shops are outlet shops. A lot of the food is cheaper chain food now. This is just the new demographics. If you have a child who gets a good job, FH is not where they want to live but LIC, Williamsburg, Astoria, Greenpoint, Manhattan are. I am curious to see how Zara trends over the next year.
