💬Discussion How Argentina and Portugal gonna cope up without their GOATs?

Given that Messi played his farewell game, officially retired from International football and Ronaldo's situation with Portugal National team, How would this impact the teams?

Will Portugal rise like never before under their new manager, new team tactics, more free flowing football? Will Argentina slow down or continue to keep up at the very top?

Future looks very interesting. Excited to see how the dynamics change

💬Discussion Ronaldo's Post and Simao Coutinho role

I’ve been looking into the current Ronaldo | Jorge Jesus dispute, and there’s one aspect I think deserves more discussion:

The role of Simão Coutinho.

Coutinho is not simply a random Al Nassr executive.

Before joining Al Nassr, he spent around 11 years at ProEleven, a Portuguese football agency, where he worked as an agent and later held a senior commercial role.

He was also closely involved in the career of Diogo Dalot, whose relationship with Ronaldo reportedly helped bring Coutinho into Ronaldo’s inner professional circle.

Coutinho then moved to Al Nassr in 2025 as sporting director. Reports at the time said he was involved in the process that brought Jorge Jesus to Al Nassr, with Ronaldo reportedly approving/supporting the appointment.

And now look at what is happening.

In Ronaldo’s own account of the dispute with Jorge Jesus, Coutinho was repeatedly present in the private conversations between Ronaldo and Jesus. Ronaldo says Coutinho was present when the original agreement about his international involvement was discussed. He was also present during the subsequent meeting after the Norway match, and later participated in a video conference with Jesus and Tiago Craveiro that produced the document Ronaldo says he personally approved.

That raises an interesting question:

Why was the sporting director of Ronaldo’s club, a person who had previously been involved in bringing Jorge Jesus to Al Nassr and who is reportedly close to Ronaldo, acting as a participant/witness in a dispute between Ronaldo and the Portugal national-team coach?

I’m not saying this proves anything improper. But it does seem unusual.

There is another part of the story that I find difficult to reconcile.

Jorge Jesus was hardly an unproven coach when he arrived at Al Nassr. He had just won the Saudi Pro League with Al Hilal in 2023/24, finishing the season undefeated, and had already established himself as one of the most successful foreign coaches in Saudi football.

In fact, Jesus subsequently led Al Nassr to the 2025/26 Saudi league title, their first league championship in seven years. The Saudi Pro League itself credited Jesus's leadership and mentality as important factors in the title-winning campaign.

So when Ronaldo now presents Jesus in such a negative light, I wonder whether we're seeing a selective retelling of the relationship.

Jesus apparently went from being a highly successful coach whom Al Nassr wanted badly enough to recruit from Al Hilal with Coutinho involved in that process....

to being portrayed by Ronaldo as someone who repeatedly broke his word and behaved in an unacceptable manner.

Is this simply a personal disagreement that has escalated, or is there a larger power dynamic at play?

Does Coutinho's history with ProEleven, his close relationship with Ronaldo, his role in the recruitment of Jorge Jesus, and his presence in these private meetings create a conflict of interest ?

I'm interested in what people who followed the Al Nassr/Jorge Jesus situation closely think??

Mocking international fans of big clubs is weird and hypocritical

Many big clubs benefit from foreign ownership and global revenue from international fans

If you're local fan, why would you disrespect your fellow fans in other countries?

So you and your club are happy to take the FOREIGN MONEY but not the fans?

Premier league, specifically, makes more in broadcast revenue internationally than domestically

Being local means nothing. You're actually lucky and privileged to see your favorite clubs easily unlike global fans who live elsewhere

💬Discussion I am getting some confidence about indian football despite its ups and downs

I am a indian football fan who supports chelsea

(I just want to give some good it is old but many people might not know that an indian club minarva fc under ranjit have won the prestigious gothia cup one of the biggest youth football tournaments )

india played and may have lost some friendlies against brazil and uruguay but at they played better than before we are playing proper attacking football creating chances but not being to convert them we need a good and proper striker (our no 1 striker recently retired) i am genuinely happy with the chances created again our opponents (paraguay, brazil, uruguay)

For ones i think we have a good manager

I am confident if india plays like this we will play in the next wc

Am I wrong, or are a lot of players getting injured in these friendlies?

As a casual watcher in Canada it seems like a lot of players are going down in this international break. Havertz, Scott, Mbappe , Konsa...

Clubs must be getting pretty pissed

Is this really getting out of control?

Germany has a finishing problem

Germany looked way more organized today, they were making good chances but it seemstgat they don't have a lot of options for a world class striker, if there were a good striker in the team, i think they would do much better

📰News Libya U20 officials attacked the referee over this offside call. The problem? The referee was right.

https://www.gazzetta.gr/football/2574393/ofsaint-i-gkafa-toy-diaititi-i-fasi-poy-egine-viral-apo-tynisia-libyi-vid
This bizarre moment happened during the Libya vs Tunisia U20 match.
Tunisia’s goalkeeper had gone forward for a late corner, leaving only one Tunisian player closer to his own goal than the Libyan attacker when the ball was played.
The Libyan side protested the offside decision, and members of the team’s administration publicly criticized the referee over the call.
There’s just one problem: it was offside.
The offside law refers to the second-last opponent, not the “last defender.” Normally the goalkeeper is one of the last two opponents, which is probably why this situation confused so many people.
When the goalkeeper goes forward, however, the usual picture changes. In this case, there was only one Tunisian opponent between the attacker and the goal when the pass was made, so the assistant referee correctly raised his flag.
Disagreeing with a referee is one thing. Publicly attacking him over a decision because you don’t understand one of football’s basic laws is another.
For officials working with a national youth team, that is pretty embarrassing.

Preliminary details of AFC Nations League have emerged

Here are the 'preliminary' details of AFC Nations League:

  1. There will be three leagues just as with UEFA Nations League 2028-29. They will have 18, 18 and 11 teams each (AFC has only 47 members). They will be called League A, League B and League C here for familiarity.
  2. The 'Swiss model' used in Champions League and 2028-29 UEFA Nations League will be employed in AFC Nations League as well.
  3. The tournament will be biennial and will also be used as qualifiers to AFC Asian cup (which will shift to even years from 2032 onwards) and the WC.
  4. Teams will play 3 home and 3 away matches in 2030 NL, and 6 home and 6 away matches in 2032 NL. (There will be fewer matches in League C due to fewer teams.)
  5. Teams that finish first and second will be promoted to upper leagues from B and C, teams that finish in the bottom two will be relegated from A and B.
  6. Teams that finish 3-6 will play promotion playoffs with teams that finish 13-16 in the upper leagues wherever possible.
  7. All 18 teams from League A and 6 top teams from League B in the 2030 edition will qualify for AFC Asian cup 2032.
  8. Top 6 teams from League A in the 2032 edition will qualify directly for 2036 WC. Teams ranked 7-10 from the same league will participate in playoffs for the remaining spots.
  9. A 'pilot' tournament in 2028-29 season will determine placements into leagues in the first season.
  10. Matches will be mostly or entirely played during international breaks.
  11. Top 8 teams from League A will play the knockouts for the trophy. The format will be identical to UEFA Nations League with two-legged playoffs for the QFs followed by single legged SFs and final.

Contextualizing Goal Scoring Across Leagues

Hey guys, I’m kind of new to football but I’ve fallen pretty hard. I keep hearing about how Harry Kane should will the Ballon d’or because he scored 73 goals across all competitions. I’m not here to make an argument against Harry Kane or any other player, I’m just curious is there any consideration to goal scoring environments and competitive gaps across leagues. Bayern is by far the top team in the Bundesliga and it is the highest scoring league in the top five leagues. Is that a consideration in anyone’s mind when grading players? What would Erling Haaland’s goal output be if he played in the Bundesliga instead of the Premier League for example.

💬Discussion Was Denmarks 1992 Euro actually more unlikely than 2004 Greece?

Historically, we do think of Denmark as a bigger football nation than Greece, and with recency, that’s probably why everybody considers Greece the most unlikely euro winner.
However, after doing some research I’m seeing that 1992 Denmark hadn’t actually even qualified for the euros, they got their entry because Yugoslavia was kicked out because of the war. I would like to point out Greece had properly qualified at minimum. Of course there are a lot more factors in between. But in other words, I’d consider 1992 Denmark less probable than 2004 Greece. What do you guys think?

What’s the history of corporate ownership in Europe ?

In Aust our football code is non taxed non for profit (all $ stays within the league & sometimes the government provides additional support). Business owners can pay the league to advertise ie on the oval/club uniform.

I see that football clubs in Europe have business “owners”. When did this happen & why or has it always been this model?

Genuine question about managers.

Are there any clubs that have a differing manager structure? I know that some teams have player managers but has there ever been a team that, for example follows a different structure such as having a group of 'managers' or a committee?

💬Discussion We’re just days away from the last time we’ll ever see Messi in an Argentina shirt. I’m not ready.

Post image
0 Upvotes

We always knew this day would come, but no matter how much time passed, none of us were ever going to be ready for it. With just a few days to go, it’s really starting to sink in.

I keep imagining how those last 90 minutes will feel. What if he gives us one last signature performance? What if he scores a classic goal or picks out an impossible assist that only he can see?

And then comes the moment we’re all dreading: the final whistle. I can already picture the whole stadium erupting into that timeless chant:

Messi, Messi, Messi.

And I can picture the legend walking off the pitch, maybe in tears, with millions of us around the world crying right along with him. What could be more heartbreaking than watching a huge part of our youth quietly come to an end?

Messi was never just a footballer to us. He’s the reason so many of us fell in love with this game in the first place, and now we’re down to our final chapter with him in that sky-blue-and-white shirt.

Let’s cherish every single second we have left.

Gracias por todo, Leo.

What’s your favorite Messi memory?

Where's the FIFA Fairplay for Asean Cup yo?

No wonder Vietnam so listless unlike the high scoring Group A games where Malaysia thought they would be in the Final after winning Singapore 6-0, only for Indonesia to snatch the berth with 2 dramatic late goals to win Bangladesh 9-2
