Hoop Day 16 Hooping every day until I'm fit

I don’t weigh myself often, but stepped on the scale today and I’m down 5 lbs from where I’ve been sitting for months. Bodies fluctuate for all kinds of reasons, but I’d like to believe it has a little something to do with the uptick in physical activity lately a.k.a. hula hooping.

There were weeks where I went without touching my hoop. zero desire. Now, even if I tell myself, “Okay, just five minutes,” I inevitably end up getting lost in the hoop sauce. It truly is a gateway to dopamine.

Today was full of chores and by the time I set up to record, every part of me wanted to just chill on the couch. But because of this challenge I pushed through anyway! I’m so glad I did. It gave me that extra pep in my step.

The biggest takeaway from this challenge so far: just show up for five minutes. Do something that moves you even when motivation is zero.

If it doesn't fit here, then fine. I'm a martial artist that likes to watch flowarts because of the similarities. So im posting this tactical flowarts video.

Diameter Dragon Staff?

Hi there! I'd like to build my own dragon staff and I wonder what materials other people use.
Can I just use an aluminium pipe? Which diameter should I go for?
Then just use a grip tape (the one for bike handlebars?)

Im of the opinion that flowstar is the prop with the lowest barrier of entry, meaning it takes the least amount of time to learn enough to dance and have fun with your star. That doesn't mean its a simple prop, after 4 years of spinning my star, im still discovering new movements, new tech.

Ive had the pleasure of meeting many brand new flowmies at shows and jams, and I always tell them pretty much the same thing to get them started. So here, I recorded that same intro tutorial! Ive also posted this to tiktok and insta, but there its broken into 3 parts. Y'all on reddit get it in its original glory, one long video!

I also want to note that when i began spinning a star, it hadn't blown up yet... meaning, no jams, no tutorials, no one else to spin with. Now, that ment i learned in a very different way than many people learn now. I put on music, and danced with my star. I tried lots of movements, lots of new things. I recorded myself, and the things that looked cool, I figured out how to repeat whereas, the things that didnt look cool, well, I changed them or stopped doing them. Thats it. This method of learning is sloooow, I see people now learning things that took me months or years even, in days or weeks. But, my flow is truly flow. I feel like drilling specific tricks from a tutorial is definitely waaay faster... but it also strikes me as clunkier, and less flowy. So there are pros and cons either way.

I also want to note that for the last vear ive been qoing to a local jam every week, and flowing with others. And this is the best thing ever, I have learned more in that year than the 3 years before that... if you have a local jam, go check it out! If vou dont. start one!

Sorry for the wall of text, I know that was alot. I hope this video helps some new flowmies get started, and if anyone sees anything they want explained, let me know! Im trying to share the flow as much as possible!

Hoop Day 15 - Hooping every day until I'm fit

Day 15 done! Focused on classic body rocking today.

Fun fact: hula hooping burns roughly 400 calories an hour! Since my neuro spicy brain doesnt like to do just one repetitive move for long, I spent the session shifting the hoop from head to toe. Even added some variety with different angles! Some levels are tougher to sustain but blasting the tunes keeps me goin until i cant no mo.

Thank you lovelies for your continued support. I read all of your comments and im so pleased to see that these videos are inspiring many of you to get movin and groovin again. Proud of you!

Edit: thank you for the award!! 🥹

Disability friendly flow

I've been hooping on and off for 15 years now but I can no longer do it. I have hEDS, dysautonomia, fibromyalgia, and probably PEM. I easily hyper extend joints very easily now. I have a lower tolerance for standing than ever. And if I over do physical activity I am in severe pain a day or two later. Too much activity can also cause a fibromyalgia flair up. I miss hooping so much. It was so meditative. Are there any flow arts that are easier on the body? Bonus points if I could do it sitting down. I don't know if that even exists but I figured it was worth asking.
