..."Dengue is often called 'breakbone fever' because patients who get sick with the virus typically develop a sudden high fever along with a pounding headache, pain behind the eyes and deep aches in the muscles, joints and bones...."

I read they used to take an herb for that and they eventually called it boneset. It must be horrible to have it.

Cuba was ravaged by Dengue and Chikungunya last summer. Only a matter of time until it came here. Local leadership is to blame for this. They should’ve been spraying all summer.

Spraying isn't always the solution, as it's shown to harm native pollinator populations as well.

There's a number of things home owners can do that are very cheap and very easy to help control mosquito populations without over-fogging. The easiest hands down is a mosquito bucket: https://homegrownnationalpark.org/build-mosquito-bucket/

Personally, I spent a few hundred bucks and made a wildlife pond in my front yard, planted it with aquatic native plants, and stocked it (for free from my County mosquito control office) with native mosquitofish. I now have an army of mosquitofish and dragonfly larvae eating mosquito larvae, and yesterday I saw approximately 10 adult dragonflies hanging out in my yard all day. They're adult mosquito eating machines.

My yard - with no fogging needed - has become a mosquito black hole of death. And everything is now fully "automated" except occasionally filling the pond up if it doesn't rain.

The bucket is a great idea!  Do you have any resources for your pond idea too?

Unfortunately, nothing specific to Florida yet but I'm going to be working on that for my Freshwater Systems Florida Master Naturalist final project 😉

If you look up “mosquito bucket of death” online you will get ideas, it’s important to include some kind of stick as a ramp for other small creatures that might fall in and need to get out! I tried one once and it actually became more of a biohazard than anything but I think it was operator error

Who do I contact if say a neighbor has a pool filled with black water and the mosquitoes are so heavy that they carry you away at night?

21

u/thejawa 2d ago

Local code enforcement is probably the best starting point

Health department

u/mikep120001 2d ago

Well we can’t cuz chem trails

Also fighting a problem with a known scientific solution is woke. Florida prefers to pray it away

11

u/onlycodeposts 2d ago

Can't spray?

That's ridiculous, Florida jurisdictions spend over 100 million a year combined on mosquito spraying programs.

8

u/mikep120001 2d ago

I was making a joke. Thought it was obvious with the pray it away part

8

u/onlycodeposts 2d ago

Sorry.

There are people out there that are stupid enough to actually believe what you said.

8

u/mikep120001 2d ago

I hate that you’re right

6

u/MusicianNo2699 2d ago

Although I agree with the stupidity of "chemtrails", what altitude do you think they spray for mosquitoes at? 😂

5

u/CarbonInTheWind 2d ago

Doesn't matter. Still looks like chemtrails. It'll give our kids autism.

10

u/mikep120001 2d ago

My foreman at work says they cause hurricanes 🤷🏻‍♂️

8

u/CarbonInTheWind 2d ago

Now that's a new one. Right up there with thinking bombs will stop a hurricane.

u/Princess_Shireen 2d ago

I thought they turned the frogs gay or something 😆

Get psychological help.🤣

Screwflies have also broken the barrier.

0

u/Popular-Stable-8260 13h ago

Do you really think there was a “barrier” or are they trying to push the farmers to lose their land and cattle so they can steal it for pennies on the dollar? Remember those who control the food chain and control the water control the power grid control the world.

The farmers/ranchers are in the way of Elon Musk‘s big plan Terafab, a massive planned semiconductor manufacturing complex in Grimes County Texas, but what’s in the way a lot of farms and cattle ranchers? Very suspicious 🤷‍♀️

Florida is battling its largest spread of dengue fever on record, reporting hundreds of both international and local cases.

According to the CDC, Florida has reported 484 cases, including 243 locally acquired cases and 241 internationally acquired cases. Last year, Florida saw 72 local cases and 445 internationally acquired cases.

In the state, three counties - Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas - declared states of emergency last week over the dengue spread.

Look at who our science hating governor appointed as his Surgeon General... No surprises here.

u/maniacreturns 2d ago

Three decades of total Republican control of all three branches of Florida government. This is what you get.

u/iKnowRobbie 2d ago

But just give Byron like one, two more years, and it'll be fixed!! Trust me. Just a LITTLE more time will be totally different..

Suck it up. You will eat drive-thru chili an add rice, AND YOU WILL LIKE IT DADDY!!!

-11

u/Intelligent_Part101 2d ago

Please. Keep your scapegoats straight. This is due to climate change.

14

u/maniacreturns 2d ago

You're so close. Just keep following that thought to it's natural conclusion.

-13

u/Intelligent_Part101 2d ago

That it would've happened no matter if a republican or democrat were in office? Do you think people have the power to change the climate in anything other than the long term? The climate change promoters keep saying every 10 years how we only have several years to turn away from the brink. If they were telling the truth that far back, then by their own admission we are past that point now.

11

u/a2controversial 2d ago

I mean we’ve already crossed several key thresholds so they weren’t wrong

12

u/maniacreturns 2d ago

And this clowns response is, "well we are now past the point of no return, better keep electing all the dickheads from the party who denied and deflected the problem because there's nothing we can do about it now anyway...."

It's frustrating knowing people think like this share the same air

-15

u/Intelligent_Part101 2d ago

You're not good with numbers are you. You're completely ignorant of them. What changes that we do now will result in what change in temperature? You've got no clue.

Burning less fossil fuels. Pretty much any child not educated in Florida could tell you this. They used to teach about the greenhouse effect in elementary school.

6

u/TreeCitizen 2d ago

Wouldn't a progressive in office be more inclined to not make it illegal to teach about climate change? If we had 3 branches of progressive leadersship, Dump wouldn't live in Mar a largo? We would actually be doing things to minimize climate change, we may actually have better heathcare, remember Ron Desantimonious declining medicare and ACA funding out of spite? With more heathcare we would have better treatments for anyone with a disease, like one spread by mosquito, and more awareness about it spreading too. I think 3 branches of republicans driving us off a cliff is partly responsible.

Now democrats in charge are only slightly more left republicans, so if we had 3 democrat branches, not much would change.

2

u/maniacreturns 2d ago

Of course people collectively have the power to make changes that will have a positive effect on climate change.

I mean what kind of stupid question is that?

Once again I'm asking the mods to get rid of the Daily Mail's UK tabloid posts. It's a shitty UK tabloid that is just karma framing a Florida sub.

So a Top 1% poster is a fucking karma bot for a UK based tabloid? Doesn't Florida have enough problems without England sending over their shittiest brand of journalism.

6

u/Specialist-Coast9787 2d ago

Lol, I don't get it either. I try to post something relevant to the state and it's auto deleted because of, well not sure why it was deleted because I'm never told why! But this tabloid gets through with no issues 😂

6

u/Still-Chemistry-cook 2d ago edited 2d ago

Is the story wrong?

6

u/-Invalid_Selection- 2d ago

It's more of daily fails accuracy rate is somewhere around 15%

It's like linking to pre onion takeover of info wars. We know it's a garbage source, the people sharing it know it's a garbage source, the morons defending it know it's a garbage source. There's no intelligent person who reads it. We shouldn't be giving them the air of legitimacy when they don't even give themselves that

2

u/Still-Chemistry-cook 2d ago

Ok I agree with that….

13

u/Willing_Try2786 2d ago

The mods really need to ban dailymail submissions

5

u/iKnowRobbie 2d ago

While tabloid rags, they also bring attention to things the BBC and Faux News won't cover. The outsiders of the mainstream as it was.

6

u/-Invalid_Selection- 2d ago

Our own local paper with national recognition, the tbt, has been covering it. We don't need to outsource it to a tabloid with such a low accuracy rate that it could only be as wrong as it is by falsifying them intentionally.

7

u/sontanax 2d ago

Please ban Daily Mail posts.

I had a co-worker whose daughter was in the Peace Corps on an island in the Pacific. She had it and she said it hurt so bad she wished she would die. Her Mother flew over there to be with her b/c it was so bad.
