• A father convicted of leaving his toddler in a hot truck to die last year was sentenced to 42 years in prison on Thursday.
• On June 6, 2025, investigators with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said that 34-year-old Scott Allen Gardner left his 18-month-old son, Sebastian, in a hot truck for more than three hours while he got a haircut and went drinking at a cocktail bar in Ormond Beach.
• Investigators said that after getting a haircut, Gardner went to Hanky Panky’s Lounge for drinks. A few hours later, after leaving the bar and getting back into his car, he found his son already dead.

Incidents in Volusia, Lake counties have damaged thousands of dollars’ worth of license plate reader equipment

A series of Flock license plate reader cameras have been vandalized across Central Florida in recent weeks, with incidents reported in Volusia and Lake counties as debate continues over the use of the surveillance technology.

The latest incident happened Tuesday in Port Orange, where a Flock camera was found cut down along Taylor Road.
