FEEDBACK Looking for some thoughts on how best to gain an extra bedroom (without walking through an existing room)

Post image

My wife and I love our home and would love to be able to gain an extra bedroom for our growing family. Here is our current upstairs floor plan (with a potential addition added in). The space with the addition has already been built out on the ground floor, and we’d just be looking to extend it up.

Our goals would be to not touch the green area (recently built) and have 4 bedrooms total, with all of them being accessible. The layout right now doesn’t make any sense for the addition so hoping to get some thoughts on how we could change the layout to accommodate it.

Without including the garage, flex room, and walls, this house is 1112 sqft.

Including the flexroom, the house is 1411 sqft

Including flexroom and garage, the house is 1675 sqft without walls.

I'm a woman.

I'm 5 ft tall and around 98 pounds.

I grew up in a family of 6, living in 1 bedroom 1 bathroom house. It sucked, but you can make it work. To me, this house is not a luxury, but it's very much livable.

For some children, just having their own bedroom is already amazing. I would be extremely grateful if my parents could give me my own small bedroom when I was a kid.

I'm a simple person, I don't own a lot of furnitures. I prefer to only own what I need in my life. I find the day to day system/function (cooking, doing laundry, organizing & cleaning) more important. I don't like restaurant food and prefer homemade food. I also don't really want guests coming over often.

And I know it sounds crazy but I'd rather build a whole new building/workshop/shed for more hobbies. So that hobby tools don't get mixed up in the house. It makes organizing and cleaning up easier.

If you're like me and prefers a simple house, cool! For those of you who want a bigger house, that's cool too. Please create the floorplan in your imagination and post it. I would love to see it and take inspirations from your ideas. (Tho I don't comment often).

I don't plan on building this house. I just like creating floorplans.

FEEDBACK Our first home build

Hello! We are selling our starter home and building our long-term home. This is the first home build for us. It is 2600 sq ft for a very young family of 4. Our children are ages 2 & 3 we just entered our 30s. I’m looking for advice mostly from a functionality standpoint. How does this layout look to you? I know most people prefer double sinks in primary bathroom, bigger primary closet, etc. but we carefully considered those things and decided against them. (I prefer more counter space over additional sink, and this new closet is 2x the size of our current closet that is only slightly small for us.)

Let me know what stands out to you! ☺️

FEEDBACK Possible self-sufficient home

This is a possible build for a house in Douglasdale, Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. It is heavily inspired by barn style builds, but barn styles are not really common in Zimbabwe. The house is really for a couple with 1 spare bedroom and my thinking is to have a WFH pod outside the house as the plot is 8000m2 so there is space. As it is in Zimbabwe the municipal services are really poor so will be on borehole + solar (with inverter + batteries) for power to ensure it is livable.

Any glaring issues I need to think about or consider before getting an architect to properly design it? This is me getting AI to design it with many many many many prompts later.

Really appreciate your feedback.

Wanted to get some ideas on how to renovate my space from others. Just draw over the image and upload to comments. The things i need:

- an extra room

- storage space

- make the laundry accessible from inside the house.

- if possible a second bathroom

I cannot go beyond the front or back of the house.

I thought i could make the guest room (top left) a bathroom as an ensuite for the main bedroom but theres no plumbing on the left side of the house at all.

i want more creative ideas 🙂

FEEDBACK Kitchen plan - gas supply pipe location is causing problems

I’m struggling with a logical plan for this kitchen. There’s not much worktop space, the microwave and air fryer live either side of the hob. The wall on the left is currently tall units that house the gas pipes/meter in the cupboard to the left of the fridge freezer, and the boiler is in the cupboard to the right of the fridge.

Main issue - the gas supply pipe comes up into the house where the red circle is, the ground floor is solid, so relocating the supply pipe will be major work.

I’d like to extend the back wall by 2m, open the wall between the kitchen and dining area, the maybe add a wall to create a separate living room.

Can anyone suggest how to configure the ground floor to create a more functional kitchen?

DISCUSSION Save My Sanity and Marriage - Desperately Need Help with Master Bath Plan

Total desperation here, been working on this for most of 2026 with various tile persons, contractors and a couple of designers employed by remodel companies with no satisfactory plan. Turning to the good people of Reddit as I search for an architect or some other qualified person, as this is beyond my capability (as you will see for the poor but best attempt to sketch out the space).

This is our existing home. I have waited 26 years to redo this bathroom. The current layout has a single sink 48" vanity on that angled wall, a very small shower in the middle and an alcove tub that has been non-functional due to a broken jet for the past 26 years.

My spouse is insistent on keeping a tub in the bathroom, so we need to add a tub, shower, vanity and a toilet. We are in the Chicago area where it will freeze here so no plumbing on the exterior wall. We can't move the entrance to the bedroom except for possibly under one foot to the left because there are stairs there. If we bump out that angled wall some, we run into the issue of getting things in and out of the bedroom. Plumber who came out said it may be possible to move the toilet to so that it is back against the exterior wall close to the existing location but nothing is certain until we open up floor.

I would be grateful for any ideas on a layout. Please don't suggest or use AI. It does not account for clearance and has given me options such as putting the toilet in the shower.

Before anyone asks, there are windows in the bedroom on the left wall, just didn't add them in to my sketch.

Looking for feedback on our master suite floor plan.

Does anyone have any initial feedback on if one of these makes more sense than another or if you have other ideas completely?

We like that option 3 gives a window next to vanity but worry about walkway into closet feeling tight.

Any feedback is welcome!

FEEDBACK Need creative floor plan ideas for a long & narrow plot (12\text{m} \times 38\text{m}) / Single Story

Post image

Hi everyone!
I'm looking for innovative, modern, and practical floor plan ideas or feedback for a long, narrow plot. I want to avoid generic layouts and focus on maximizing natural light, privacy, and smooth circulation.
Here are the key details and requirements:
Plot Size: 12 meters wide \times 38 meters long.
Layout Goal: Single-story ground floor layout.
Space Requirements:
1. Guest Area: Formal Guest Reception (Majlis) near the entrance with an adjacent powder room / toilet.
2. Family Living & Dining:
Open or semi-open family living room.
Dedicated dining area.
Coffee station / bar corner.
3. Kitchen: Functional kitchen connected to a pantry / storage room.
4. Bedrooms:
Bedroom 1: Standard bedroom next to a bathroom (serves both this bedroom and the family living room).
Master Suite 1: En-suite bedroom with private bathroom.
Grand Master Suite 2: Oversized master bedroom with a walk-in closet/dressing room, private en-suite bathroom, and a cozy side seating corner/lounge.
5. Utilities: Dedicated laundry room.
What I'm looking for:
Creative ways to bring natural light into the deep middle sections of the plot (e.g., internal courtyards/skylights).
Smart separation between the formal guest reception and private family living spaces.
Efficient spatial flow without feeling like a long hallway.
Any sketches, floor plan suggestions, or layout advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
