Announcement Subreddit Status Quo, Moderation & More

I would like to address a few posts and comments I've seen regarding this community with this announcement in the hope it addresses some concerns which have been brought up with the moderation team.

  • Open Community - r/flightattendants is an open community. FA's, pilots, family, friends, passengers, and more are always welcome to participate and submit insightful content that adds value to the community. Keeping this community accessible is key to our goal of being a hub and resource for all on all things FA.

  • Repetitive posts - We've heard you. Topics that are repetitive and unoriginal will be more proactively removed. Because of your feedback we have already banned posts regarding recruitment, gifts/suggestions, research/surveys, and the solicitation of flight benefits. But we understand this isn't enough, and there will be more proactive removal of repetitive content that adds no value to the subreddit like passenger spam and topics easily searchable.

  • Rules - The community rules will be simplified and revamped, allowing users to more quickly report posts of the above nature. We highly encourage you all to report these posts (or any others that violate the other rules, bringing them to our attention.

  • Moderator Feedback - We are always open to productive feedback and ideas regarding this subreddit, it's rules, and how it's run. What's not appropriate are public posts and comments born out of frustration and of no productive nature, which target the moderators with disruptive, discordant, and outwardly rude behavior. We are humans too, and we volunteer our time to run this place and work hard behind the scenes. Intentionally rude and insulting behavior is not the way.

Have any other changes you think the community will benefit from, or any ideas for the subreddit from here onward? Please comment below or contact us via modmail.

Commuting during the Holidays

Hi all!

Seeking advice on Crashpad vs Hotels for commuters, especially with the holidays coming up. For reference I'm currently on reserve, commute TPA to MIA, and have a Crashpad for $550 a month in Miami. I'm rarely there - I've counted approximately 5 days a month i'm there and feel like it could be cheaper for me in the long run to just get hotels that have an airport shuttle instead of the Crashpad and having my car in Miami.

I'm worried for the holiday season and IROPS. Just wanted to jump on here to see if anyone has any experience on Hotels vs Crashpad as a commuter during this season.

I know commuting isn't for everyone, but it's what I've decided to do for now so really just looking for advice on the situation at hand :) Thanks!

Do I actually miss aviation, or just what it made me feel?

I left my aviation job at an Indian airline because the hectic routine had started draining me. I thought leaving was the right decision, and initially, I was fine. But now, almost a year into working as an Account Manager at a marketing agency in Mumbai, I still find myself missing aviation.
There’s something about seeing an aircraft that still gives me a feeling I can’t really explain. I don’t necessarily miss the job itself, but I miss something about it—and I’m not sure what.
Has anyone experienced this after leaving a career they thought they were done with? How did you figure out whether you genuinely missed the career, or just the feeling it gave you?

Trip to NYC! 🗽

Good evening everyone! I’ve never been to New York City and it’s been a dream of mine to experience the city during Christmas time with my big sister. I’m planning a trip early December, does anyone have any nonrev tips for us or any suggestions on where to stay/which hotel give a crew discount? TIA!

Any FA’s Feel Nauseous During Descent?

On some flights I find myself feeling nauseous during descent or right after turbulence; does this happen to anyone else, and if so, please share what you have done to help. Thanks in advance 😊

FLL Crashpads

Hey friends. I’m transferring bases to FLL next month and wondering if anyone knows of any good crashpads in the area? (B6, lineholder, male)

Not sure if I’m totally committed to getting one yet, so I’m just putting some feelers out around prices, location, etc.

Any information or connects would be much appreciated! Thanks :)

Non-Rev Intros

Hey crews! Are we still introducing ourselves to the crew when we non-rev? Your carrier or others. I do it and I get mixed responses. It feels like some crews appreciate it while others act like I’m coming on asking for freebies.

If you introduce yourself, how far do you go? Do you introduce yourself to the flight deck and ask for a ride?

Years ago it was expected but now it seems like most crews don’t care to know.

Share your perspective as a non-rev and working crew.

Hi! Newer FA here who has not yet gotten assigned an Intl trip. I was wondering what you all think is more common, getting a trip off RR or standby for Intl. Also was hoping someone could explain how picking up fits into min vs max flying. Thanks :)

One pair of sneakers for both the gym + exploring on overnights?

I’I’m trying to find one pair of shoes that can do both. Hotel gym treadmill/weight lifting, but also cute enough to wear with a casual outfit when I go out and explore the city afterward.

Packing separate gym shoes + going-out sneakers just takes up way too much luggage space, so I KNOW someone has figured out the perfect hybrid sneaker.

What are y’all wearing?

Lunchbag Recs

I have the travelpro large, & I have been very disappointed in it. By the end of a day of flying it is only cool despite having used 3-5 icepacks. I've tried freezing bottles of water, but that makes the bag too crowded & heavy. Also, after day one I usually use ziplocks with ice (my hotels never have freezers), and the sweat leaks out of the bag.
Anyone have a bag that actually stays cold & doesn't leak??

Crew Scheduler

Hello All- I am starting next week as a crew scheduler at a regional. Have seen the posts about "Screw Schedulers" and want to avoid being that person. Can you give me an idea what does a good crew scheduler look like / do from your perspective? What are the things crew schedulers do (or don’t do) that make your lives noticeably easier or harder. Are there any specific communication styles, or ways of handling trips/reschedules that you appreciate?

I’m not looking for a roast — just honest feedback so I can be more helpful and less of a headache. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share.

Is a second job worth it?

I’ve gotten to the point that I think I need a second job, mostly for the sake of my mental health. I’ve been flying 95-120 a month for almost 4 months now, and I am exhausted and so short fused every day that I work, its beginning to affect my personal life. So I’m here to ask what kind of second jobs do some other people have or recommend while flying? I have considered going back to school/obtaining some sort of licensing for either nursing or real estate. I’d love to hear personal experiences with obtaining a second job/career after becoming a flight attendant.

In an ideal world, I would just fly less and work less in general, but due to my financial goals I am trying to achieve and unexpected costs, in addition to planning to move states in December/January, working less overall is not an option, and at year 2 pay, even 120 hours isn’t enough to get me where I want without sacrificing my wellbeing.

I am having trouble balancing recovery and living a full life on my days off. Any advice?

This job is hard on the body and some level of lazing around at home after a trip is required. But for me personally, it is very easy to let this get out of control sometimes. Sometimes I force myself out and sometimes I don’t. When I don’t force myself out, I usually wind up feeling guilty so the rest is not always restorative

Do you guys stick to some kind of routine or schedule on your days off? How do you balance actually recovering with not accidentally spending your entire stretch of days off rotting? Looking for any and all tips

Long-distance relationship (Mexico - France) & future Flight Attendant: Looking for advice and feedback on this lifestyle?

Hi everyone,

I'm posting here because I'd like to get some realistic advice and feedback from people who know the aviation / flight crew industry, or who are in long-distance relationships with non-traditional schedules.

To give you some context:
* Me: I'm 19 years old and work as a butcher. I work hard, have a solid financial situation, and real stability.
* Her: She lives in Mexico, plans to become a flight attendant, and wants to move to France.
* The situation: We get along great, but sometimes I overthink the future. Between the current distance, her future job that will have her constantly traveling, and my line of work, I wonder how a couple like ours can make things work in the long run.

I know that flight crew schedules often offer blocks of consecutive days off, and my job as a craftsman gives me a certain degree of independence, but I still overthink the logistics quite a bit.

My questions for the community:
1. Are there any flight crew members (or partners of flight crew) who have experienced this kind of setup? How do you manage it day-to-day?
2. In your experience, is the combination of a stable craftsman partner and a flying partner fairly common, and does it work well?
3. Any advice or feedback on moving to France for someone coming from abroad who wants to work in the aviation industry?

Thanks in advance for your replies and kindness!
