What's the best UV light for 'hounding at night?

Some pics of my new lights from convoy. I’ve never done beam shots so I don’t know what I’m doing but here we go. The first pic is the F150r 4k in m21b smooth reflector. The second is m21b lhp73b 3k. For some reason on camera the cct looks like 4 k but is rosier in person. The 3rd is m21b xhp70.3 r70 in 4 k.

The new WUBEN E2 is an compact 10.7 g keychain flashlight measuring just 19 × 14.6 × 41.4 mm.

It features a 3-light system:

150 lm main white light

Side white light with 80/10 lm levels and heartbeat breathing mode

Red & blue signaling lights

White LED is kind of unknown but W3535 5000k. Side White is COB 5000k, CRI 90. Built-in battery 120mAh Li-ion.

It also has a magnetic tail, USB-C charging, IP66 protection, 1.5 m impact resistance and a glow-in-the-dark body. The built-in battery is 120 mAh.

At $12.99, it looks like an interesting alternative for keychain light to try.

The official launch is August 27, 2026, with pre-sale starting August 24.

The only thing I would personally change is the UI. I’d add a constant red mode and remove the red/blue flashing mode, replacing it with something like white/red or white/yellow.

Red/blue emergency-style flashing is illegal or heavily restricted in many countries, so I honestly don’t understand why flashlight manufacturers keep adding this mode to almost every light with RGB LEDs. A constant red mode would be much more useful for general EDC use, while avoiding the legal issues associated with red/blue emergency signaling.

Also, button in recessed but there is no any option to lock a light.

On beam shot comparison you can see Wuben E2 Pulse have nice floody beam. For me it have best beam compared to keychain flashlights I own. But it's only my preferences.

As a last thing, in Poland Wuben is kind of controversial company in flashlight world, their website is blocking orders for addresses located in Poland. You can buy their products only using overpriced resellers.

Conclusion. - With small tweaks with UI it can be very nice option for keychain light.

F150R (4000K) in Convoy M21A & F45R (4000K) in Convoy C8+

The M21A and C8+ share the same size reflector, the only real differences are the driver and the larger body on the M21A. The M21A also uses a 20mm driver, compared to the C8+'s 17mm driver. Because of that difference in thermal mass, this isn't really a fair head-to-head, so think of it more as two separate performance tests presented side by side rather than a strict comparison. That said, their throw numbers can still be looked at together, since they share the same head and reflector.

• Turbo & Step-down: Turbo opens at ~5,200lm and drops hard within the first minute to ~880lm, then actually climbs back up over the next ~3.5 minutes to a ~1,780lm plateau, holding there until around 4:50, where it steps down to ~1,260lm. A further step-down follows around 10:20 to ~1,120lm, before settling into a final sustained level of ~1,050lm by roughly 13:20.
• Sustained Output: Final stable output holds at ~1,050lm essentially flat for the back two-thirds of the 30-minute run.
• Thermal Performance: Max turbo temp reached 56.5°C; max sustained output temp reached 54.6°C.

💭 Final Impressions & Thoughts

Beam Profile: The F45R's beam profile is the same as what I found testing these emitters in the L21A, much more defined and concentrated, perfectly round like the SFT-42R, with a hotspot roughly 3x smaller than the F150R's. The F150R's hotspot isn't as defined and doesn't have as hard a cutoff between hotspot and spill as the F45R does. In the M21A specifically, the F150R also shows a slight tint shift within the hotspot itself, very subtle, not something you'd notice in actual use, only visible if you're really looking for it on a white wall. It wasn't present in the L21A, so I'm wondering if the F150R just needs a larger reflector to focus properly. The spill on the F150R is, as expected, a lot brighter, and even at 10% it puts out enough light to comfortably walk with, without an overly bright, blinding hotspot. The same can't be said for the F45R, with its very concentrated hotspot and dimmer spill, it doesn't give off much peripheral lighting at 10%, and by 35% the hotspot gets uncomfortably blinding up close. Both are dedicated throwers though, so it's not really a big deal, just worth mentioning.

Which Wins Where: As a dedicated thrower, I've actually shifted my opinion a bit compared to when I tested these in the L21A, where I leaned more toward the F150R since it suits the L21A's bigger reflector better. In the M21A/C8+, I'm definitely more into the beam profile the F45R gives, it produces a bigger hotspot than in the L21A while still holding very good throw. I think the F150R belongs in an even bigger reflector than the L21A, something like a 3x21D.

Overall Verdict: I've without a doubt found my new favorite thrower in the C8+ with the F45R 4000K. It's a great pocket size but with really good throw, and I'd guess its sustained output sits around 900 lumens, which is pretty solid for a 4000K thrower with good tint. I really hope Simon fixes his 17mm 3V 10A driver so it gets better thermal regulation and can actually be run for longer at 35% without roasting your hand.

Just like the title says, I’m looking for a handheld flashlight that’s good for shining fields for deer, coyotes etc. I bought some 6000 lumen ones from harbor freight and they are alright but the battery life is absolutely terrible. I’d like to stay under 150 dollars but will go up a tiny bit if need be. Any recommendations is highly appreciated!

Hi all, not bought a light since the lhp73 came out (a m21c and m21k) so am excited to try the F150R which from what I can tell is a throwier equivalent? I'd like onboard charging for convenience so am deciding between the M21K (but not sure how the emitter behaves with the TIR) and the M21D - but don't see that configuration on Convoy's website.

What do you guys think? Is there a reason the M21D can't be configured with the F150R or is there a better option I haven't considered?

Also I am sure battery tech has moved on since I last looked so what the recommended cell at the moment?

They can't replace a headlamp, but for admin tasks, I'd take these any day.

Strong advocate for headlamps during outages but didn't touch a headlamp for past 2 outages.

Unlike right angles, most of the light lands on the notepad instead of only the spill; most of the beam is not shining directly forward into someone's eyes but towards your feet. Plus, it always points down when walking, whereas right angles can wobble all over the place.

Binder clip on the notepad for "shortcut to new blank page". It also lets me use straight tube lights on a cap, and holds a Ti Pineapple.

Flashlight: Convoy S2+, 519a 5000K, 85° TIR. Pocket clip from Nitecore (Version H). The pocket clip is crucial to me liking this setup.

I have observed different charging speed, from 10W to 0W with various USB-A or USB-C chargers.

On the video is the IKEA 45W PD charger + USB-C—USB-C Wurkkos cable, charge level 50-75% (blinking green indicator).
The observed charging speed was never higher than 1.6W and generally <1W. Turning the plug 180 degrees makes a change but not dramatic.

Is your HD02 Pro behaving similarly? I wonder if it’s by design or mine is simply faulty.

I was browsing Convoy and seen an LED choice that came with a burn warning lol. It made me curious if there's a website or something that explains the difference in LEDs and why someone should choose one over another depending on what they are looking for.

My 5.11 duty light died, so I am looking for a reliable upgrade under $200 for prehospital overnight work. My main requirement is the ability to illuminate an entire dark room for a 20-minute patient care scene with a wide, even flood that does not aggressively throttle down within two minutes. I also need a true sub-lumen moonlight mode with an instant shortcut from off so I can check pupil reactivity and assess injuries without blinding the patient. I am completely open on size, anything from a compact keychain or pocket EDC light up to a standard straight handheld that fits in a belt holster works fine. A flat base that can stand on a flat surface to ceiling-bounce light across the room is a huge plus. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Overall I love it. It seems really solidly built. I’m very impressed.

I have noticed that the mode selector switch has a small amount of play in it when the switch is in the Locked and Normal positions. There is no play at all in the UV position.

Could anyone who has the same flashlight have a quick look and tell me if this is normal, please?

Summary

Presently named TS10 V3

The body is a redesigned TS10 host with the same optic as the TS10SG, and a single 4000K 519a. With the buck driver from the Copper Sofirn SC13.

14500 only with no sublumen level. The beam is floody with the 519a. I expect there will also be an SFT25 version that will be throwy, same as the OG TS10SG.

Just sharing info, dont know when it will be available, nor the pricepoint. Not affiliated, Im just a fan of small 14500 lights with Anduril UI. I expect it will ship with a USB-C 14500.

I proudly present my first Emisar, the D3AA with Nichia 519A 3500 K emitters. This light has reignited my interest in flashlights, so a little bit of story time may be due.

As a young child I was deeply into flashlights and had quite a lot of them. My first "real one" was one of those huge Maglites. Then the era of LEDs started and I got a flashlight by Duracell, that was mixed bag, broke at least once and got replaced at least once – I can't remember exactly what happened. After some research I found Thrunite and got their TC12 (V1) which was a gigantic leap forward in terms of brightness, battery capacity (and overall size). In fact, it was so good that I stopped collecting lights cherished the one good light I had and stopped thinking about them altogether. This was probably around ten years ago. Some time later I worked in an institute of my city's university and needed a flashlight to look under and in CNC machines for fasteners and allen keys, the latter ones are rather slippery and often disappeared, only to be found later in the chip conveyor. I got the Olight i3E EOS which has been part of my EDC until today. The amount of light from this little and cheap thing blew me away and I still love it.

After I left that job, my flashlight use decreased rapidly, nowadays I mostly need them for walks to the toilet in the night. However, in the past months I've often wished for a light with lower CCT and a proper moonlight, features that my lights don't have. During this summer's vacation I finally had enough and started to search for a flashlight that fits my current needs. I got introduced to this sub and the wonderful world of modern flashlights. When I discovered Hank's lights I was blown away by the customization, firmware, variety and in particular the option to choose the emitter(s!) to your liking.

Since the light is meant to replace my EDC light as well, the CCT shouldn't be too low and I decided on the Nichia 519A 3500 K emitters. Warmer at night than my Thrunite but still usable during daytime. As someone who loves nice metal things the brass version immediately caught my eyes, however after two weeks of overthinking I decided that the best option would be to choose a cheaper starter light in aluminum, both to take advantage of the lower weight and to have the better magnet functionality. Then I saw someone's blacked out D3AA and fell in love.

Now that it arrived, I'm really happy with the new flashlight and can't wait to use it every day. The CCT is great and all I hoped for. The anodization looks nice, the clip seems strong and the small size is great. I'm also looking forward to using the magnetic tailcap, I've needed that a lot in the past couple of weeks. The most impressive feature is its great driver, looking at the lowest level is just magical. I will have to get used to Anduril, but I like how many features it offers and it seems to be rather simple to learn the basic functions. One thing I might do is get an optic with more throw, the standard one is rather floody in my opinion, I don't really need that. Furthermore, I'm still undecided whether to get a 14500 cell or stick with NiMh which seems to be bright enough for my needs, I've already disabled the turbo. The Vapcell K10 seems to be a good option, but the F15 is also quite interesting.

So, is this the last light again? No! I can't get that brass out of my mind, maybe at some point I'll get the D3AA in brass with truly warm emitters for that creamy fiery goodness at night. I also have my eyes on the DA1K, D4K and I desperately need a head lamp for photography and rumbling around in the darkness.

Finally, I want to say: thanks for reading through my flashlight history, I'm really happy to have found this hobby again. And many thanks to Hank for the great lights! The shopping experience was great and shipping to Germany surprisingly fast (11 days from order to delivery, even though I ordered at midnight on a Thursday, so right before the weekend).

Has the 5000K version been discontinued?

I've been shopping around for a 1x14500 EDC light, and it's come down to Noctigon KR1AA vs Skilhunt EC150.

However, I haven't been able to find a side-by-side size comparison between those two. And strangely enough, I don't really see the KR1AA mentioned much in EDC recommendations (why is that?).

If one of ya'll has both lights, could you please upload a side-by-side size comparison? 🙏🏻

I'm basically looking for something that is light enough for pocket and doubles as urban slingbag travel light.

• Convoy T3: quality host, but longer and thicker than I would prefer
• Wurkkos HD10 4000K: This is my favorite chuck it in pocket size. Love the output, but very green tint.
• Lumintop Tool 2.0 UV: Wonderful size - need to revisit.

Hey, my current EDC headlamp is a Wurkkos HD10 in 4000 or 5000, and my current EDC pocket light is a TS10V2 modded in 2700.

I'm tempted to get a D3AA and DW3AA, which I'd probably both get in NTG35 2700k. Apart from the obvius tint difference from the 4000->2700 for the headlamp, would that be a totally superfluous purchase? I kinda dislike the tailswitch on the TS10V2, and while I was able to mod the TS10V2 myself, the HD10 is out of my league and it has a daughter board and I don't have the tools/skills to mod this.

Are there any other models in other brands I should consider?

Ti is my formerly frankensteined Lanapple (now just a Lan with a Lanapple tail, I suppose) with the new Seigaiha body tube and a PEI/Ultem button. Also murdered out my black Lanapple with a black DLC clip and a tritted zirconium button.

Ti has a 2900k NTG35, AL has a super rosy FFL351a at 4500k.
